Akumal Apartment Rental Photos and Description

You Couldn't Get Any Closer To The Calm, Warm, Turquoise Caribbean Sea

Please note: our calendar is always up to date! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to reserve. Claudio +1-267-648-6597 eastern US time

Free Wi-Fi in unit and on the beach. Free international calls. Good cell phone reception. Firm king size bed + 2 single beds.

700 yards (640m) of white fine sand beach (with sandy bottom once you are in the water) right in front of the condo. This is considered one of the best beaches in the area, very calm and perfect for snorkelling as it is protected by the coral reef just 100 yards out and where you can see the waves breaking (see photos). Here's the Google Earth link for the beach right in front of the condo:

https://www.google.com/maps/@20.3739399,-87.326132,3a,75y,343.46h,89.1t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCVsh_oLcLs9ATNmRVdeNbA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

525SF + patio ground floor Studio condominium. The beach area and pool are right in front of the unit, it is shared with the next-door Oasis Hotel that, slowly, bought over 50% of the units of these 4 condo buildings and turned them into hotel rooms. So at any given time you'll have hotel guests and condo owners/tenants sharing the beach chairs, umbrellas (palapas in Mexico) and pool. They make sure the beach is perfectly clean. The only thing you won't be getting is the free booze or any of the 'all inclusive' services. Your 'all inclusive' will be the fridge in the unit. I usually leave some essentials (coffee, bread, bananas, milk, cereal, beer, red wine, cheese, etc) that you can either replenish or leave the money for it before you leave.

Great location right in between Playa del Carmen and Tulum (beach, ruins and town).

PLUSES: one of the best beaches in the area, generally calm ad with a sandy bottom (for a while). You can swim all the way to the coral reef and the water rarely gets deeper than 7 feet. You can see colourful fish (always), turtles (sometimes), stingrays and the occasional octopus (they camouflage with the white bottom).

When it comes to transportation, you can drive (parking in front of the condo door) or take the 'colectivos' (public buses, white vans, USD$3) by walking to the highway (0.6mi/1km). On these 'colectivos' you can go 30 mins to the north, to Playa del Carmen (USD$30 by taxi) for some fun in its excellent restaurants and clubs or 15 mins to the south where you'll have access to the 2nd best beach in the world , the Tulum Beach (USD$20 by taxi), with its very bohemian crowd and eco beautiful (clothing optional everywhere on this beach, though not technically legal in Mexico). You can settle down at any of the restaurants on the beach and even spend the day there by just consuming food and drinks. This beach is a beautiful and long (more than 4mi) walking beach. The famous Tulum Ruins are at the north end of the Tulum beach (do not confuse the Grand Tulum Beach with the little and quaint beach inside the Tulum Ruins, they are different animals).

For essentials you have the town of Akumal 5 mins to the north (USD$10 taxi ride) or the town of Chemuyil 5 mins to the south (USD$10 taxi ride). For big food shopping you have a large supermarket 'Chedraui' (odd name for a supermarket even in Spanish) 15 mins north at 'Puerto Aventuras (USD$20 taxi ride) and another 'Chedraui' (and even larger) 15 mins south in Tulum town (USD$20 taxi ride). Also lots of chachkas in Tulum town.

MINUSES: road to get to the condo from the highway (0.6mi/1km) is a dirt road. If you were to get there for the first time at night you would think 'where the heck am i going?' as you drive in with jungle on both sides. Don't worry, it gets really nice once you get closer to the unit and to the unit. Here's the Google Earth link for the exact location of the condo, you can check the dirt road all the way to the main road so to get an idea, although it has been fixed now:

https://www.google.com/maps/@20.3745425,-87.3266581,3a,75y,173.09h,76.1t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgSTNMe_VSqyBuWlaHVNBgQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

Shopping for food would be fairly difficult to do by using public transportation (you would have to carry the food shopping bags in the crowded small public transportation vans, 'colectivos').The closest large supermarkets are 15 mins north or 15 mins south of the condo (by car) USD$20 taxi ride. Without a car it gets tricky. Smaller first necessities supermarkets are 5 mins north by car (Akumal Beach, not Akumal Town) or 5 mins south by car (Chemuyil), USD$10 taxi ride for both.

HOW TO GET HERE

Transportation Available from and to the Cancun airport (CUN) for USD$75 each way (1:15hr ride) + tip ($10?) (Van up to 3 people and USD$85 up to 8) by Jeromy Transport . They'll wait for you at the airport with a sign with your name on it.

Contact: Miguel. Phone: 011-52-1-998-845-8258 (eastern time).Email: jeromitransferscancun at gmail dot com

You could also rent a car at the Cancun Airport (Blueway has really inexpensive cars, right outside the airport although they don't have the best reviews).

You could rent a car from Enrique, the Caretaker of the building (really nice small car) for $35/day or $210 for 7 days. clubenriquetulum at hotmail.com

You could rent a car in Tulum Pueblo (15 mins south of the condo's location ) Hertz Tulum Pueblo around USD$60/day and they'll bring it to the condo, here, and pick it up when you want to return it (Fidel, who works there, told me about this).

All time High!

  • 4 of 5

We love this beachfront condo. The owner made sure that the caretakers would provide us great hospitality and accommodation upon our arrival. Aventuras is an ideal location to explore nearby attractions such as the quaint beautiful town of Tulum, Akumal Bay, Half moon bay etc. We rented the caretaker's car twice to buy groceries from Chedraui (very cheap). The best part of our stay was waking up every morning to see the beautiful sunrise. We miss some of our friends such Iggy the iguana, hermit crabs, fishes and manta rays. The fine white sand under our feet was very therapeutic. We are going back for sure! Thank you very much, Claudio!

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this condo was great. It was awesome being right on the beach! Claudio stayed in close communication with us, and I only have great things to say about the condo and our experience. As a family of 4, we felt that the condo provided enough room to accommodate all of our needs. (Even when the tropical storms moved in and we had to exit the beach.) What a wonderful long weekend trip! Thanks again!

This was a great place for our family of 4!

  • 5 of 5

It is truly right on the beach. Beach is beautiful. Pool is steps away too. Has its own awesome patio with iguanas and crabs visiting. There was food in the fridge as promised. The caretaker and super were available, but we did not need them...everything was perfect. It was a little challenging to find the first time, but once we told the guard that it was Paulina's (caretaker) place we were let in. Kids and husband went ocean fishing right out in front of condo in a panga with Guillermo...not for the faint of heart. No life jackets! But they caught a barracuda. This was a nicely located condo if you have a car...Tulum and xel ha are about 10 minutes away. We would definitely recommend!!

Best vacation ever in Mexico! Awakened the first morning with the beauty of the ocean facing me....

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we opened the door upon arriving from the airport, we were speechless! The ocean literally greeted us!

I've never had that experience before and my daughter and I hope to return next year. Claudio was an excellent host making sure all of our needs were met. We have very little that we could complain about with the exception of the internet. It seems the weather and other factors make internet limited. Of course, as far as I go, it could have been user error....:)

Thank you again, Claudio!

Wonderful place to stay, can't get much closer to the beach!!!

  • 5 of 5

Totally agree with all the other great reviews!! The owner and staff are more than accommodating.

We love snorkeling and were able to step out the door and enjoy great varieties of fish, sometimes in and out all day!!!

The patio was wonderful and spacious to relax, with a hammock, hanging chair, 2 loungers, and a table with umbrella and chairs, which was wonderful for breakfast. It worked great, as for part of our stay we had 4 of us, with lots of room.

The pool is literally steps away, refreshing with a fantastic view! We took a small floaty, which was well used, floating and enjoying the view.

The road was in great shape for our stay as well. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we did cook a fair amount! The only thing we had an issue with, was the water pressure for hot water in the kitchen, but Enrique the caretaker, always took care of it, and it wasn't a big enough issue, to affect my review.

We would definitely return, if we are fortunate enough!!!!!

This was such a fantastic location! The beach was the best in the area-

  • 5 of 5

Our host provided great support for accessing both the apartment and the best the area had to offer. We appreciated the location right on the beach- and would definitely would rent this unit again. It offered the best of the neighboring resort with the availability of great dinning or the option of cooking in the fully furnished kitchen in the rental

The best beach in the area is right out the patio doors! and it was such great snorkeling.

Additionally the proximity to Tulumn, cenotes and day trips to the Coba ruins made this the ideal launch point for the best vacation ever!!

Great location right in between Playa del Carmen and Tulum (beach, ruins and town).

Pluses: located right on the beach on the bay south of Akumal Bay. The Meso American coral reef (2nd largest in the world after the grand barrier one) is very close to shore right there (where the waves break in the photos). This makes the beach in front of the unit and to its left (looking out from the patio) one of the best in the area, generally calm ad with a sandy bottom (for a while). You can swim all the way to the coral reef and the water rarely gets deeper than 7 feet. You can see colourful fish (always), turtles (sometimes), manta rays and the occasional octopus (they camouflage with the white bottom).

When it comes to transportation, you can drive (parking in front of the condo door) or take the 'colectivos' (public buses, white vans, USD$3) by walking to the highway (0.6mi/1km). Also lots of chachkas in Tulum town.

Minuses: road to get to the condo from the highway (0.6mi/1km) is unpaved and full of pot holes, a real mess. You'll have to drive really slowly or you'll wreck your car. If you were to get there for the first time at night you would think 'where the heck am i going?' as you drive in with jungle on both sides. Don't worry, it gets really nice once you get closer to the unit and to the unit.
