About Holly Bailey

Hello, we are Troy & Holly Bailey from New Virginia IA. We are transplants from Maryland that moved to this beautiful state in 2006. We dairy farmed in Maryland and moved to Iowa to partake in its more laid back, less crowded atmosphere and get our hands dirty with the rich black soil that covers the state.

Holly Bailey purchased this barn in 2011

Why Holly Bailey chose Iowa

We needed a place for family and friends to stay when they came to visit so we turned our barn into a rustic hideaway that we thought others would enjoy too. And they do. The only complaints we get from our guest is that they don't want to leave.

What makes this barn unique

The landscaping is always changing here between a field full of soybeans or corn to the north ,a pergola covered in blooming wisteria, or tulips everywhere in the spring, how about the smells of the lavender that draws the butterflies to its purple luster, the birds always singing a song in the bushes and vines as they make their way to vibrant red birdboxes filled with chirping babies. The trees that shade you on a hot day as you relax in your chaise and catch an afternoon nap. Maybe you all but fell asleep getting a massage outdoors while you take in all these sounds and smells. (we have a massuse that comes and gives massages here at the barn) in the winter you can curl up by the fireplace with your cocoa ,watch the sun rise while you sip your cup of joe, watch the stars twinkle above your head as you gaze out the sky lights ,catch up on movie time, remember what its like to relax and enjoy life.

Lovely, quiet, charming barn

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to spend a quiet, relaxing overnight for our anniversary. The interior of the barn was so cozy and charming. The gardens, pond, and pergola provided such a peaceful setting to enjoy the dinner we prepared in the well-stocked kitchen. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Beautifully decorated barn home in an inviting outdoor living space

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent 3 days enjoying the fully equipped barn house but spent most of our time outside sitting under the pergola, eating meals outside, sitting around the fire, watching fireflies, birds and stars. The outdoor space is so inviting and comfortable- very, very well done with lovely landscaping. Inside and outside there is great attention to detail. We had a great time!

Perfectly charming.

  • 5 of 5

The Barn was the perfect, charming spot for a reunion of six college friends who hadn't been together for 30 years. The grounds are so beautiful and the weather cooperated so we spent many hours enjoying the outdoors. Excellent accommodations.

This is an amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

I surprised my wife for her 50th birthday by inviting several of her college girl friends to stay the weekend here with her. They all absolutely loved it! A wonderful, peaceful and beautiful spot to relax! From the rustic interior of the old barn to the gazebo, wire flowers and pond, I highly recommend this place!

Relaxation at the Rustic Barn

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place to stay! The Rustic Barn was the perfect getaway home for our trip out to Iowa! After long days of touring around (John Deere factories and museums, the I-80 Truckstop-World's Largest and museum, The National Sprint Car Museum, Pella Iowa and the Bridges of Madison County/Winterset) it was nice to come home and relax out on the patio or under the pergola to the sounds of the soothing waterfalls into the pond, the birds singing and the quiet sounds of the country! The Rustic Barn had all the comforts of home...from the comfy/cozy beds to the cushy sofas, the wonderful claw foot tub to all the pots/pans and dishes to make a tastey dinner! We loved it! How we wish this place was closer to home to enjoy again and again. We were sorry we missed you, Holly, but enjoyed meeting Troy and the dogs! The boys loved watching and feeding the fish! Thank you again for the perfect getaway!!

A Little Piece of Heaven in the Middle of Iowa!

  • 5 of 5

We had an unbelievable stay at the Bailey Farm! I could not get over the beauty of the property, every time I stepped outside to the patio, walked to the small pond and took everything in, and walked back into the barn I was in awe of it all. I strongly recommend if you traveling anywhere near Des Moines to take a slight detour and spend some time here even if it's out of your way the stay will be more than worth it! We were in town for the Races in Knoxville, the commute was easy, a bunch of guys having a good time and none of us expected the accommodations to be so exquisite! Thank you to Holley for the experience!
