Beautiful beautiful beautiful
Staying at the casita of Mares and Miki was a total pleasure; it was hard to leave. They are the very best hosts, very welcoming and friendly with lots of good information, but allowed total privacy. The casita is charming and the view is spectacular. The dogs are fun and the horses are sweet. After visiting the Roman ruins at Acinipo, looking at them across the valley was very special. Mimi and Mares’s art is all around and adds visual pleasure everywhere. The location is perfect for visiting many white villages and Ronda. The casita is fully equipped and the beds are comfortable. We’ve stayed in many VRBO accommodations and this ranks at the top with the very best.
Perfect cottage with spectacular settings and location - super peaceful, super hosts - very special!
It was a real joy to stay in the Polins's guest cottage for 10 days and use it as a base for days tours of Ronda, the pueblos blancos, the nearby Roman site of Acinipo, and even Jerez and the famous horse show at the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre. And then to return in the evening to barbecue our dinner, watch the sun set and admire the views from the spacious west-facing terrace, and converse with the friendly but inquisitive horses that graze in the olive grove adjoining the property.
The cottage is set apart from the hosts' main residence, studios and stables but their discreet presence, exquisite taste and obvious love for their lifestyle, farmstead and animals contributed greatly to all of the most endearing features of our stay. From their own paintings and ceramics that adorn the cottage and make it feel so 'homely' (as well as it being very comfortable, planned and well-equipped in its own right) to the playfulness of their seven rescue dogs that are now happy and free to roam their space. Miki and Mares are all you could wish for as hosts - considerate, helpful, knowledgeable, welcoming, generous.
On a practical note, the owners' directions and background information on the area are detailed and good, but it is probably best to plan to arrive in daylight as the country road the property is set on can be a bit confusing in the dark to the uninitiated. It is in good condition, however, and fine in the daytime and once familiarised, and is, of course, an added guarantee of the cottage's splendid tranquility. The swimming pool looked beautiful, spotlessly clean and inviting with gorgeous views but it was still a bit cool in early March for us to try it out, although it was ready for the more daring!
Excellent and unusual cottage in rural Andalousia
We received a marvellous welcome from Mares and Miki who very kindly invited us for some wine and tapas on our first night.. They were both a mine of information about the area. The "casita" is beautifully decorated with their paintings and ceramics, all created on site. Views from the terrace towards Apicino are stunning. Although we were there in winter the casita was warm and cosy with an ample supply of dry firewood as well as electric heating. We loved their dogs which had all been rescued and they got on well with our own small Scottie dog as did their horses. This cottage is ideal for a quiet time in tne countryside but is well situated for visits to Ronda, Jerez, Cadiz, Malaga etc. Next time in the area we would love to return. Neil and Val
The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable
Miki and Mares are excellent hosts and the place lived up to all our expectations - and more! We had a great time staying to enjoy the space and in situ scenery. (Horses and olive trees just out the window and Roman ruins on the horizon!) We also took advantage of some walks in the area from twenty minutes to a few hours. You really need a car to get here and it allows some more options for trips in the region. Beautiful.
A restful and charming respite for a traveler
The dogs, horses, artwork and rural atmosphere all made this a very memorable stay. The kitchen is well appointed and Miki provided a nice stock of groceries to start out with: coffee, tea, milk, bread, eggs, cheese and wine. The bed is comfortable, everything clean, well lit and heated for winter.
The view is peaceful and nice walks can be made morning and evening along the country lanes. It was a much appreciated break from seeing the cities of Spain and Portugal. Our favorite stay in the whole 3 week trip.
Incredible, the perfect hosts
We’ve just returned from an exceptional 3 night stay with the Polins just outside Ronda. They’re the perfect hosts & along with the many animals the place felt like home.
Fantastic views & within easy reach of Ronda.
Within 5 minutes my partner said “we’re coming back here!!”
Thank you very much for your coming!
It is such a pleasure for us, that you were satisfied with you holiday in our Finca!
Looking forward to seeing you again!
Acinipo: The archaeological site of Acinipo is located over one big limestone hill of a tertiary origin, having a middle height of 999 m over the sea level. This rise at the valley of Ronda gave it an important strategic value, which was specially considered at the Pre Roman age when the human settlement had to be established. Ronda: Rising amid a ring of dark angular mountains is the Andalucía town of Ronda. Built on an isolated ridge of the sierra, it is split in half by the gaping river gorge of the River Tajo with a sheer drop of 130m on three sides. Grazalema: In 1977 UNESCO declared the Grazalema Natural Park a Reserve of the Biosphere in recognition of its astounding natural values. The limestone rock forms spectacular features of immense caves, crags and canyons while a dense Mediterranean forest of cork oak, common oak and wild olive covers and fills the landscape.
