Spectacular Views When You Live Above The Clouds, City Lights Below.

About Tucker Comstock
I founded Serendipity Adventures, Costa Rica's most respected adventure operating company, in 1991, and I designed and built Volare on the most beautiful piece of land I had encountered in all of Cost Rica (but I admit I am very partial to grand vistas, clouds, and cooler temperatures - I suffer at the beach). When I sold Serendipity in 2011 I thought I would retire gracefully in Volare -- but all great plans somehow get sidetracked. I fell in love. And now I live with my partner on a ranch in the northern part of Costa Rica. But Volare is too much a part of my passion to just sell it, so I thought sharing it through rental would be a good compromise. And besides, the staff at Volare love the way we entertain guests and friends, ith dinners on the terrace under the giant roof, overlooking the city below.

Why Tucker Comstock chose Santa Rosa
This small part of Costa Rica is pretty untouched by commercial tourism, by big industry, by noisy traffic and crime. Volare has an even greater advantage - not on the road, but tucked behind a hill, so someone on the paved road in front won't even know we are here.
What makes this House unique
The openness of the house -- walls won't block you in. The deck is integrated into the interior space, and the doors are rarely shut during the day. The clouds. You can sit on the deck all day and watch the changing scenery. You can watch clouds form and ascend, or roll over the mountain behind the house and fall like thistledown into the valley. Only 50 minutes from world class shopping, only 40 minutes from primitive Indigenous villages, only 10 minutes from the departure for the Pacuare. Loads of private adventure and nature opportunities. An active volcano. Pristine waterfall. We in Volare are here for your benefit, to book tours or arrange meals or design your whole vacation (we have lots of experience with that).

Excellent place to stay for a family trip
Our family of four stayed (two adults, two children) at the Volare house for four nights. The house was clean, tastefully appointed, with plenty of space, and a beautiful view. The town center of Turrialba was only a 10-15 minute drive down the hill will, where we could shop for groceries at the local super market. The outdoor tub (across the hanging bridge) was a fun way to relax in the evening after a day of sight-seeing and tours.
The caretakers of the property, Franklin and Yami, were real gems. They were were warm and friendly (despite our poor Spanish skills, and they're minimal English), and were prompt when we need to water heater to be fixed. We also had Yami cook an amazing dinner and breakfast, which was delicious.
We would definitely stay again!
Beautiful home and magnificent views
We had a great time at Volare! Tucker provides very detailed notes for your full enjoyment of the house. It really is a place where you can relax and feel at home.
The kitchen is very well stocked with every possible item you can think of. We spent long mornings eating a leisurely breakfast, all the better to pleasure in the home's beauty .
There are a lot of seating areas, outdoors and indoors. The outdoor furniture is comfortable and there are plenty of tables and chairs, We spent each morning taking in the amazing view of the valley below and enjoying the birds and wildlife. We saw oropendulas and toucans from the balcony.
Volare is very private although there is another couple downstairs, but they were rarely seen. Our local hosts, Yamilet and Franklin, made sure we got settled in and checked on us to offer assistance. But for the most part, they respected our privacy and could be reached at any time by mobile phone. We felt safe and the home seemed secure, behind a gate, with full time residents nearby.
The edge of the property has a good view of Volcan Turrialba, which on one morning was venting smoke plumes. More often it was covered by clouds.
Each of the 2 upstairs bedrooms have an open wall covered with a fabric divider. They adjoin the kitchen & downstairs space. As a result, sounds can be heard between all these spaces. There is a downstairs bedroom off the kitchen that is enclosed completely. It wasn't a problem for us, since we all had the same bedtime and generally awakened around the same time, but it might be a consideration for other guests when choosing which bedrooms to occupy.
We were sad to leave Volare and recommend it highly. It's a fantastic home with many extras, and it is well maintained. We hope to return someday!
Incredible views in an incredibly well designed house. We enjoyed every minute and I can only agree with all the positive reviews before me. First thing my son said after he walked in was; "Why didn't you book this longer?" Enjoyed the fully functional kitchen and luxurious bathrooms after staying in more basic casas before. We loved the outdoor hot tub and the hanging bridge connecting it with the house and used it every night (no problem filling it with hot water). Can absolutely recommend if you want to explore this area!
The views are amazing....
Home is beautiful. Views amazing and we couldn't say enough about how fabulous the caretakers Yami and Franklin are! We HIGHLY recommend requesting at least one dinner be cooked by Yami and Franklin. They do not charge enough for this service!
Only issues.... the dogs. Continual multiple dogs barking and howling ALL night from everywhere. The only way to get a full sleep is to sleep in one of the bedrooms on the west side of the house and turn a fan on to keep a constant noise. The owner suggests letting Franklin and Yami know if the dogs are barking and they will tell the neighbors but in reality, that would likely be an effort in futility as the dogs bark from everywhere... trust me... west side and fans work fabulously!
The "hot tub" on stilts is very cool in theory... but is just a large bathtub with warm water, that doesn't really fill to a normal tub level without filling the top half with cold water. It does have excellent views of the city when you sit up straight and the most amazing night sky when you are laying back.
We recommend parking your car and touring the town by foot. Just be careful for the vehicles and the crazy motorbike riders 😀
We would come back to this home in a heartbeat! Fabulous!!

This house has a huge deck with wonderfully comfortable furniture to relax and take in and absorb this gorgeous view of the Central Valley. It was so enjoyable to sit on this deck, read a book, have morning coffee to watch the sun come, linger over a lazy lunch as clouds floated in and through the valley, and then finish the day with a glass of wine as the lights from the town below set the valley aglow. It was hard to explore the area because the house held so much appeal. We had beautiful weather so that we could sit outside, but the house has glass all around so the sights are available from the inside as well. The kitchen was very well stocked. We ate all of our meals there. There is a cute little mini-mart that has basics at very reasonable prices. We had stopped before arriving and had bought meat and wine. The little stores close met the rest of our needs. We did go to Guayabo National Monument and Irazu Volcano Park. They both were a little over an hour away. They really weren’t that far away, but the twisting roads made a slow go of it. All the roads were paved however. We had a great stay in the area but the house was definitely the best part. Thanks Tucker for sharing your beautiful place with us.
We had a fabulous time at Volare!
Volare is like a treehouse on the top of the mountain overlooking Turrialba. The view is spectacular and the home comfortable and well maintained. It is in a good location for rafting the Pacuare, about an hour drive. Tucker was a tremendous help in making all the arrangements for our trip, from airport arrival to reaervations for activities. Franklin and Yami, who take care of Volare, provide for all your needs from transportation to meals to laundry, if you would like to pay extra for these conveniences. They are both lovely people, very helpful and completly trusrworthy. We are a family of 5. My husband and I have 3 sons, ages 17,19 and 21. We came here to raft the Pacaure and it was absolutely fantastic. If you like white water rafting, you can not beat it. We loved our stay and would highly recommend Volare.
