About Dan Reece

Dean and Dan are long time mates from the midwest USA. They and their wives, Alison and Leslie, are enchanted with the Riviera Maya and enjoy sharing it with others.

Why Dan Reece chose Quintana Roo

Paraiso Tankah is a quiet stretch of Caribbean shore lined with private homes. It is close to Tulum and many area attractions. We built Dos Bahias to optimize its setting, with all rooms having floor to ceiling windows facing the Caribbean.

What makes this house unique

Dos Bahias has a unique, contemporary design. The first floor has a pocket wall that can partition the space into two units. The second floor master suits are separated by an open terrace area. Our two rooftop terraces offer secluded settings to enjoy a 360 degree view and southern sky. There is a full outdoor cooking and dining area next to the pool and beach.

Stunning home with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

Casa dos Bahias was home base for a family trip which consisted of adults and two children(aged 4 and 6). Every aspect of the house far exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't have dreamed of a better place. The interior of the house was well thought out in layout and design, making it easy to feel comfortable and at ease the second you walk in. The balconies, patio, outdoor kitchen and first and foremost, the pool were where we spent most of our time together. Augustin was prompt to reply to any inquiries and issues and Cindy, and Esteban worked incredibly hard and thoroughly to make things perfect during our stay. Two adults received a massage from LizBeth and would highly recommend this experience to all. Also, the house is situated on a very accessible and safe bay with excellent security which is within close proximity to some of the best beaches(Tulum + Akumal), ruins(Tulum + Coba), cenotes(Dos Ojos + Gran Cenote), snorkelling( Yal Ku Lagoon + Soliman Bay), local shopping(Tulum + Macario Gomez) and restaurants(too many to name) that Mexico has to offer. Bonus: O'Tulum is next door and Blue Sky is down the road for those who like to stay close by but still want to enjoy a nice meal and/or cocktails. Whether you like to take adventures, or just relax -- this is the perfect place. Thank you for letting us use your lovely home, Dan! We look forward to our future return!

My new home away from home in Mexico

  • 5 of 5

This outstanding home tucked between lovely Soliman Bay and Tankah Bay on a gorgeous stretch of quiet shoreline is my new happy place. For my first trip ever to Mexico, I couldn't have picked a more fabulous spot to spend a romantic getaway week with my wife. This home is completely stocked with every comfort one would want, and every need was seen to by manager Augustine, housekeeper Cindy, and groundskeeper Esteban. Breathtaking sunsets, warm tropical breezes, and great swimming and snorkeling in both bays were just highlights of every day. The only "difficulty" my wife and I encountered was upon checking in: choosing which of the four beautifully decorated bedrooms to claim for ourselves. We highly recommend dropping by the brand new Hotel O' Tulum next door, and Blue Sky Boutique Hotel down the road for cocktails and meals out, as the setting at each spot is perfect for cocktails and dining. Security on site at night ensures safety and the sound of the ocean outside your door ensures a sound night of sleep! We cannot wait to go back! Thanks Dan and Dean for sharing your little slice of heaven!

Casa Dos Bahias gets our highest praise: "This does not suck"

  • 5 of 5

There were five adults (2 couples and me) sharing this house. The WOW factor was off the charts with the amazing views. One of the men sat down outside shortly after arrival and proclaimed "This does not suck!", which became our trip's motto when we found something that deserved the highest praise. We have each travelled extensively and agreed that we found a piece of heaven at Casa Dos Bahias. Other reviewers covered the house itself, and we agree with their stellar assessment. The only thing we would change about the house is the pool water. It was too cold to enjoy most days. I suspect that was more about the weather, but I would have preferred a heated pool for the cooler January temps. The beach views and sounds more than made up for it though. And the sunrises - OMG! We do hope to return.

Even prior to arrival, we were delighted with our interactions with Owner Dan. Augustin, Stevon, and LisBeth exceeded our expectations as well. We loved having two kitchens - one for drinks and one for food :-) The loungers were quite comfortable, and eating outside at the covered dining table was heavenly. An exciting surprise was the new hotel, O'Tulum, next door. Georgina, Carlos, and the rest of their staff made us feel like family. We had dinner there twice, as well as lunch and breakfast; however, our favorite times were happy hour, where they served us the BEST drinks we had all week along with guacamole and chips. We also walked North to Chamico's once for lunch (they are not open for dinner), and it was very good as well. The other two places we tried South of there were not nearly as good as O'Tulum.

We enjoyed the Grand Cenote and the Tulum ruins, and spent one afternoon in downtown Tulum at the little shops. We also recommend LisBeth's massages. We hope to visit the more extensive shopping in the Tulum beach area on a future trip.

Another highlight (which Dan recommended) was hiring Chef Daveed's team to cook a couple of dinners for us. I highly recommend them.

Another shout out to Dan and Augustin: our flight was cancelled due to weather issues back home; since they did not have another renter coming that day, they allowed us to hang out in the house a few extra hours with a late checkout. It was so gracious of them; we were fortunate, as many other travelers were stuck at the airport all day long waiting for our replacement flight.

I have always wanted to do a trip like this; Casa Dos Bahias exceeded expectations!

Absolutely fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

This place is absolutely fantastic! It is only 1.5 hours south of Cancun - an easy drive. The house is gorgeous! Each of the 4 guest rooms are spacious and have beautiful views. I enjoyed lounging on the decks and relaxing in the infinity pool, walking on the beach (especially to the outdoor restaurant for margaritas and guacamole!), and exploring the area. Tulum and Akumal are close by and offer more beaches, restaurants and shops. The Coba ruins are amazing. There is a cenote within walking distance and many in the area - even cenotes through underwater caves! The place was immaculate, very well-maintained. The owners, manager and staff were terrific - very nice, professional and accommodating. This was my third trip to Casa Dos Bahias and every time has been wonderful. I will definitely go back and would definitely recommend it. It is a fabulous place - a great value in a great location!

Stunning Accommodations In La Riviera Maya

  • 5 of 5

If you want a fabulous house with a great pool and stunning views, this is your place. The location is ideal just 10 minutes north of Tulum. Me, my wife and 14-yr-old daughter shared the house with another family of 3. There are 4 master bedroom that overlook the Pacific. Four bathrooms and two spacious kitchens. Numerous Cenotes nearby. Internet, cable TV, and yes much needed air conditioning!

The Mayan ruins in Tulum are close, and ruins in Coba are 30 minutes away. Groceries are closely if you choose to stay home to cook, and Tulum offers many local spots for awesome foods and drinks - very affordable.

Four couples could easily be comfortable in the house and there are enough things to do to enable everyone to have their space.

Highly recommend!

Great view, great rental

  • 4 of 5

This property was just as described. The views were beautiful. The owners are great to deal with. The staff was attentive and on site on time. Security arrived every night at dusk and stayed until daybreak. There were a couple of times that they maids didn't leave clean towels, but after requesting the first time, we had more than we needed from then on. One kitchen stove is much smaller than the other, so all of the cooking happened on one side. The only reason I would give this a 4, and this isn't the owners fault, is that construction is happening on both sides of the property. The hotel on the right must have had up to 20 construction workers who stayed overnight most nights. This wasn't an issue most days as they tended to keep to the property. But they did have a tendency to congregate on the roof and stare at us for long period of time. It did make our wives a little uncomfortable. We had to eventually put down the sun shade (which blocked the breeze) and put up umbrellas strategically to block the stares. We then asked the owners what could be done and they sent Augustin over to speak to the foreman. It did reduce the stares but they never completely stopped. If it were not for that, we would have been almost completely alone, with the occasional beach comber. I will say that the beaches are difficult to walk as they are mostly coral and off of properties not maintained by staff (as this unit is), are quite littered. Overall though, great rental, great staff, great owners.
