Leland House Rental Photos and Description

5 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Sleeps 10 With Lake Frontage And Private Docks

Whaleback Retreat is a great place for a family getaway or a group of friends looking to enjoy a wine tour and all the beauty Leland and Norther Michigan has to offer! We are located on North Lake Leelanau just south of Leland Village. This spacious house overlooking the lake from Whaleback Hill has 200 feet of lakeshore across the street!

Everything you need for a perfect opportunity to be together has been given careful thought by the owners. The master bedroom in the upstairs is a getaway in itself with its comfy king-sized bed, peaceful woodsy views and roomy bath with walk-in shower. The other four bedrooms are beautifully decorated and each have a queen-sized bed. Three of the bedrooms have balconies with seating and lake views. The house has a full kitchen on both levels that allow for lots of room to cook or allows for guests to enjoy some quiet time separately. Views of the lake are enjoyed from the open living/full kitchen/dining area in both the upstairs and downstairs areas that can be closed off for privacy if needed. Lake gazing is required when savoring morning coffee on any of the balconies or decks and while grilling on the patio. Of course, it's then up to you if you head down the hillside stairs, across the street & jump right in!

Whether you are up to relaxing, wine tasting on Michigan’s largest wine trail, hiking Sleeping Bear Dunes, down hill skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or snowmobiling on many of the great trails, boating Lake Leelanau or Lake Michigan, ice fishing, sporting, staring at the water or blazing a mountain bike trail in the summer, Whaleback Retreat has it all!

This year around getaway will always make you feel at home.

A beautiful stay in a clean, cozy home with a fantastic view!

  • 5 of 5

Wow!! What an amazing time we had at the Whaleback in May 2016! The house was large and easily accommodated our group with plenty of bathroom space, two kitchens, and lots of areas to "hang out" and enjoy the scenery. The house was clean, organized, and felt like home! Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful retreat!

Great views

  • 5 of 5

This house worked very well for our group. Two kitchens allow the early birds to wake up and enjoy coffee without waking the others. Hanging out on the porch and enjoying the view is the best part of this house. The owner was nice and always available .....oh, and the beds were very comfy!

Another amazing stay!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at the Whaleback retreat for the second time. We loved the house so much the first time we stayed that as soon as we got home from our vacation, we knew we would be back. The house is so inviting and comfortable. It truly is a home away from home. Everything that we needed was furnished. Rebecca, the home owner, is always available and answered any questions we had within just a few minutes. The house is large and spacious which was perfect for our group. The location is perfect for those who want to stop by the various local wineries for wine tasting. We can't wait to return again!!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Whaleback Retreat Nov 6-9 2015 for the Toast the Season weekend. What an awesome home. The place is HUGE and can accommodate many guests. Owners are very friendly and easy to reach. We loved the real fireplace in the main living room. The place had all we needed to make breakfast in the morning and enjoy the wine we purchased at night while watching some college football! I would highly recommend this place. The views of the lake are amazing!

The Whaleback Retreat was absolutely perfect and we found it just as described. It had ample room, all the needed amenities, was really clean, and was just all around relaxing and a beautiful place to hang out. We hope to be back again someday!

Perfect 50th Anniverary Celebration with Family

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Whaleback Retreat was a lot of fun and went by way too fast. The house was beautiful and spacious enough for our whole family of 11. It was so nice to relax on the deck overlooking Lake Leelanau. It was hard for us to say good-by. There are so many things to do and see in the area that we were busy every day… for example we visited lighthouses in Empire, Northport, Old Mission Point Grand Traverse; Stocking Sleeping Bear Dunes scenic drive, many wineries to sample, anniversary dinner in Leland’s Fishtown at the Blue Bird or a Chubby Mary at the Cove, shopping in Glen Arbor. We also had a nice lunch in Omena at the Leelanau Cellars winery. Our granddaughter had a fun time gathering rocks along the Lake Michigan shore in Leland. She found several Petoskey stones and other interesting treasures. And she thoroughly enjoyed the smores made at the fire pit back at Whaleback. The best part of the week was celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary just hanging out at the Retreat house with our family. Thanks Rebecca for sharing your home with us. Couldn't have been better.
