'La Plantade' is a romantic and elegant Provençal villa filled with antiques and fine paintings. It is hidden down a private lane yet only a 3 minute walk to the picturesque medieval artists' village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup. The magnificent views range from the blue of the Côte d'Azur to hilltop 'perched' villages and surrounding mountains. The beautiful landscaped garden contains many varieties of old roses and palms. A large terrace around the house overlooks the pool area and the driveway with parking for 3-4 cars. Nice and its airport are 20 minutes away. First class restaurants abound and sports include tennis (2 minutes' walk), golf, cycling, hiking, riding and paragliding. Cannes, Monaco, Menton, Antibes and Italy are all within easy driving distance. For art lovers there are numerous museums nearby: the Foundation Maeght in St-Paul-de-Vence, the Picasso Museum in Antibes, the Chagall, Renoir and Matisse museums outside of Nice. Please contact the owner for further information.

Golf Courses: On an average of 30-40 minutes’ drive from 'La Plantade' there are 11 outstanding golf courses. Most of these include driving ranges and lessons. They are located in areas also renown for good restaurants, such as in Mougins, where there are 2: Golf de Valescure and Golf de Cannes Mougins. In Valbonne there is Golf d'Opio Valbonne and the Victoria Golf Club, whilst in Grasse there is the Golf de Grasse Country Club and Golf de Saint Donat. Closer to the coast in the famous glass-making village of Biot there is the Golf de Biot. If you want to be very near the coast then just beyond Cannes in Mandelieu-La-Napoule there are another two: Riviera Golf Club and Golf de Cannes Mandelieu. Further afield there is the Monte Carlo Golf Club and another in Tende, Golf de Vievola. Some of these also have pools, tennis courts and riding facilities.

Skiing: There are a number of ski areas within easy driving distance of 'La Plantade.' Winter 2005 saw 5 snowfalls of c 20 centimetres each on the Riviera. The nearest ski area is Gréolières-les-Neiges at 30 minutes’ drive. Its altitude is 1400-1800 m covering more than 1000 ha. There are 10 lifts serving 3 blue, 3 green, 15 red and 2 black runs over 30 kilometres. A drive of slightly over an hour takes you to the ski area of Beuil-Valberg at an altitude of 1430-2100 m. Guestbook comments from the owner

Carole Stone author of : 'The Ultimate Guide to Successful Networking' said of her stay in 2004, 'La Plantade is a very personal villa in which to entertain both family and friends on holiday. The shady terrace and the garden were particularly admired by guests.'

Huw Radley wrote: “In July 2004 we spent two glorious weeks at La Plantade which is perfectly located in idyllic Tourrettes sur Loup. Most memorable are the wonderful views from the superb, all round well sheltered terrace and upper main bedroom – the distant sea, the mountains, and a perfect view of the village - which in itself is such a delight. Don’t miss market day on Wednesday for some additional local delicacies. Our plans to explore the Cote d’Azur were somewhat put on hold given the temptation to just chill out at the poolside, and enjoy the ambiance of the villa and its beautiful gardens. Having said that, access to the entire region is within a very short drive - and well worth the effort.'

Notes:
Because 'La Plantade' contains very good quality antique furniture it is generally not advisable to bring small children. The layout of the house is as follows: a 2-story Main House (having a Master Bedroom & En suite Bathroom on the ground floor and 2 further Bedrooms - 1 Double & 1 Twin - sharing a Bathroom on the 1st floor) with a lower ground floor Studio containing a Kitchenette with Bathroom and Twin Beds. The latter is adjacent to the pool. The large Reception Room with open fireplace and adjoining Dining Room on the ground floor (see photograph) is surrounded by a sunny terrace and a shaded pergola where there is a dining table for 8 people and another for 4. The Kitchen is small after the Provençal fashion but serviceable with all the necessary equipment from microwave to dishwasher. Washing machine and drier are next door in the downstairs cloakroom. Typical French shutters keep out the worst of the heat in high summer but fans are provided. In winter heating is electric.

Fabulous House and Location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I plus two other well traveled couples just spent 10 mid-October days at LaPlantade. To say we were delighted with the house and its proximity to the medieval village of Tourettes sur Loup is an understatement. We were amazed we had managed to find this gracious and beautifully furnished house and village. What a perfect home base for our Provence day trips and our relaxing stay at home days.

The spacious house had everything we needed. The balcony that overlooks the village and countryside was used daily. It was great to enjoy sunset cocktails there before the easy saunter to one of the village restaurants for dinner.

The small kitchen had everything we needed to do some home cooking too. Modern appliances, large numbers of cookware, and ever a salad spinner!

The bedrooms were quite a ways apart from each other, which insured a quiet night's sleep in the comfortable beds. A full bath for each couple was a real plus.

After one tight squeeze up ride up La Plantade's narrow driveway, we opted to keep our car in the nearby free parking lot. Not a problem.

We didn't figure out the clothes dryer need to have its water collection tray emptied from time to time until later in the visit. I'm sure that was just because we weren't familiar with European dryers. We had sunshine every day of our stay so our slightly damp clothes dried quickly on the terrace on one of several drying racks until we figured we needed to empty the water tray.

Andrea was responsive and helpful with whatever questions or arrangements we needed. She was a perfect, if long distance host.

We felt privileged to have been able to make La Plantade our Provence home.

Terrific stay at La Plantade!

  • 5 of 5

One of the many reasons we chose this villa was its close proximity to Tourrettes sur Loup. We wanted a small town experience walking distance and that we had. The town is charming and has all the basics..bakery, butcher, restos that you need for a week's stay. We purchased the bulk of our groceries in Vence, 10 minutes away. Good wine choices at E. LeClerc in Vence but in an emergency walk over to the main square of Tourrettes...a tiny restaurant there called La Cave aux Vins(hope that is right) sells all kind of wine. Know that staying north of Cannes and the A8 will add a bit of driving time to your tourist destinations along the coast. This was okay with us.

The house is not set up like a typical rental. Personal touches, fantastic artwork, well stocked kitchen, beautiful garden and view to die for with fantastic varied seating to drink your wine when you return from a day of touring. We were three couples and opted to use the basement apartment for the third couple rather than the third bedroom...nice and private, great bathroom, very good beds, little kitchenette. I recommend.

Andrea, the owner, was detailed in any explanations we contacted her for. There was a wifi glitch when we were there...it appears to be all sorted out. She has a pile of resources in the sitting room for any area info but there is also a town TI walking distance...go and get all your maps and further info, tours, there as well to get your trip sorted out. We waited too long...google maps is great but we still like the hard copy and the TI's has better area maps to follow instead of the very detailed Michelin ones.

Owner's Response: Annemarie, it's good to hear that you enjoyed your stay and, like myself, you prefer the hard copies of maps! Very sorry about the internet glitch. A previous guest had inadvertently 'reset' the router which confused matters. I am pleased that you liked the personal qualities of the house and hope to see you back for a longer stay complete with the returner's discount! Au revoir!

Excellent villa and location !

  • 5 of 5

Villa La Plantade is a character property sat within a beautiful well maintained garden with views of the local village of Tourettes sur Loup, sea and surrounding mountains. The villa is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, well exceeding our expectations. We (4 adults and two children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the location very convenient for visits to the local villages of Valbonne, Grasse, Mougins and Eze, amongst others. We discovered the beach and watersports at the nearby town of Cagnes sur Mer which was excellent for the kids (and the adults!). The larger coastal resorts of Cannes, Antibes, Nice and Monte Carlo are all within easy reach. Andrea provided us with all requisite information and was on hand to offer assistance during our stay. We have fond memories of lazy afternoons by the pool under the crystal clear blue sky, BBQ’s in the garden and evenings spent at the local restaurants in nearby TSL. We hope to visit again !

A simply stunning property

  • 5 of 5

La Plantade is the perfect property for a relaxing holiday. It is beautifully decorated with great flair and style and maintained to a high standard. The location is peaceful and secluded yet a short walk from the centre of Tourettes sur Loup (which is a gorgeous French village). It is highly recommended.

Holiday Heaven

  • 5 of 5

La Plantade villa was everything we hoped it would be for our holiday. We have visited Provence every year for the last 25 years and the villa's location to the village and surrounding area's was perfect and the best we've experienced. The views from every part of the villa were superb and it was one of our great pleasure to eat al fresco on the veranda over looking the surrounding area.

The property was clean and well looked after and Andrea (owner) was very helpful with any issues we may have had. The cleaning and maintenance staff we also very pleasant and helpful. They looked after our cases for us when we left the villa for our last breakfast in the village.

The village of Tourettes Sur Loup was the very best you could ask for and is our favourite place in Provence. All in all an amazing holiday and we will definitely be returning.

Like Stepping Into A Storybook!

  • 5 of 5

The setting is stunning and as beautiful as the pictures are - the real thing is more beautiful!

Andrea is a dream to work with - providing us with so much guidance as to the house, the area, the restaurants. We just couldn't have asked for more.

She has a wonderful support team who were polite and trustworthy and were attentive to our every need.

We rented this home for my husband's 60th birthday. We had three couples and the home provided privacy for each couple.

Our family has traveled extensively and this trip was definitely the best! We hope to return again - truly paradise.

Tourrettes-sur-Loup is a beautiful medieval village situated on a hilltop overlooking the blue Mediterranean and its adjacent promontories. Built as a refuge over 1200 years ago against the invasions of the Saracens it became in the 20th century a place renowned for attracting artists of all persuasions: poets, painters, musicians, sculptors, film directors and movie stars. Among these were Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Lelouche (of 'A Man and a Woman' fame), and Jacques Prévert.

Today its narrow pedestrian streets contain a wealth of artistic shops. There are art galleries, textile weavers, ceramic potteries and original jewellers. Four outstanding restaurants nestle in its alleyways.

Ten minutes away is famous St. Paul-de-Vence with its innumerable art galleries and the renown Fondation Maeght, home to a vast collection of Miro's, Giacometti's, Calder's, etc.

Further afield to the south the glamour and sophistication of Nice offer exciting nightlife complete with casinos, theatres, concert halls and the opera together with high-end world-class shopping.

The excitement of Cannes and its film festival are only 35-40 minutes away while Antibes with its world-class marina - considered the biggest and best in the Mediterranean - is even closer. Its elegant centre and fascinating Picasso waterfront museum are not to be missed.

Going north you encounter the romantic 'arrière pays' where life continues in the old ways and for the daring sport enthusiast there is paragliding and even skiing in the winter at Gréolieres.

Often at Christmas time you can be sitting in your shirtsleeves in the sunshine enjoying the view to the Mediterranean while contemplating the afternoon's skiing expedition!
