South Central Colorado Cabin Rental Photos and Description

The towering trees that stand sentinel over the grassy meadow can tell the story of the Chalk Creek stagecoach stopping to water the weary horses in the Wilsey ditch while the tenacious riders are talking of how nice it would be to have a comfortable cabin just on the edge of this meadow where you could watch the bighorn sheep traverse down the mountain to graze.

Fast forward to 2016. That same stagecoach road is now a driveway. The same ditch runs through the property. The same grassy meadow is still the salad bowl for bighorn sheep and other wildlife. But now there is the rider's dream cabin, BigHorn On The Wilsey. A 1300 SF custom-built immaculate 3 BR, 2 BA home. Soothing designer colors on the walls bring the outside in. Go to any window and it becomes a frame for the beauty of nature ~ tall pine trees, quaking aspen, willows, and outstanding 14er mountain views. The shady front porch is the place to relax on a hot summer day. A leisurely walk down the drive yields a view of the Wilsey ditch and grassy meadows. A variety of wildlife drink from the ditch. The bighorn sheep viewing meadow is adjacent to the property. While the rest of us park our vehicles and hope to see the bighorn sheep in the few moments we are there, you have a front row seat to the mountain they climb in order to reach the meadow. The cabin and its 2 acres are surround on 3 sides by USFS/State land. No neighbors in sight. No roads in sight. No noise. Clear starry skies. 100% nature. This is Colorado perfect.

About Manager

Originally from the Midwest, my husband and I moved to Colorado because of our love of the mountains. We have a young son now and especially would like to instill in him the importance of nature; ultimately, we try to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

We enjoy white-water rafting, jeep and ATV trails, soaking in natural hot springs, hiking 14ers, exploring historical areas, gem collecting, wildlife viewing, and the absolute peace of nature. BigHorn On The Wilsey is the perfect home base to appreciate all of the aforementioned activities.

What makes this cabin unique

BigHorn On The Wilsey is unlike any other property in the area. The cabin is surrounded by USFS/State Land on three sides, no roads or other structures/homes in sight, has direct access to walking and hiking trails, and views of unobstructed mountains and wildlife from any window. The waterfalls can be heard from the cabin, and at night, all the stars shine with zero light noise and a feeling of being out in the middle of the wilderness although the cabin is only a few miles from the closest convenience.

a gem

This place really is in a stunning location: It's set in a breathtaking, secluded alpine scrub meadow directly under the towering peaks of Mt Princeton and Mt Antereo. It's very private - there is one other house near the front of the long meandering driveway, but otherwise the cabin is completely surrounded (for as far as you can see and far beyond) by National Forrest land. We were astounded to sit and watch large herds of bighorn sheep and mule deer (seemingly unfazed by our presence) wander by grazing not 20 yards away. The cabin itself is newer, well built and tightly insulated; nicely appointed and comfortable in a thoughtful, if basic kind of way. Not luxurious, not rustic, but wanting for nothing and absolutely spotlessly clean. We didn't cook very much, but if you care to the kitchen is reasonably well appointed - certainly workable for cooking uncomplicated meals and well stocked with basic larder items (cooking oils, spices etc) cookware, utensils, appliances (toaster, coffee maker, etc) and lots of dinner/table ware. The beds in the bedrooms were newer and very comfortable, though calling the cabin a 3 bedroom would be a stretch - the 3rd sleeping area is really a daybed in a large upstairs hallway; fine for an older child but not private. Located just a hop down the road from the hot springs resort, but really a much nicer place to stay, this cabin is a unique and special base to explore a remarkable part of Colorado.

Secluded and peaceful

I had a lovely time at this home! Hiking trails were easily accessible and the view from the backyard was amazing. Thank you so much for an unforgettable weekend in the peace and quiet of nature.

Go go go! That is the best advice I can give :-) my mother and I said it was the nicest, most peaceful cabin we had ever stayed in! The house itself is beautiful inside, the colors so soothing ... The beds were super comfortable, everything was top notch, we give the entire experience an A+!

Wonderfully cozy mountain retreat

We brought up two couples with three toddlers between us to get some time to relax, and had a wonderful time. Within 30 minutes of getting to the house we saw deer walking by the back door! There are great snowshoeing trails within a couple miles, beautiful meadows right outside the door, and mountain views galore. The house is well-stocked, a well-equipped kitchen, and very comfortable. A great place to get away. You can tell the house is well-maintained and thoughtfully set up for guests.
