About the property

2 Bedrooms Each With Queen Size Beds And Fold Out Mattress For Kids

Aloha and welcome to Hale Nanea, a place to relax, enjoy and have fun.

Whether coming to the island looking for adventure or a relaxing vacation Hale Nanea can meet your needs. Only minutes away from one of the few active volcano's on the planet you can sometimes catch a glimpse of the glow in the sky from the flowing lava field. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the cool trade winds on a hot day while reading a book or enjoying the ocean views. Or if you are looking for more adventure there are many options close by: Kehena Black Sand Beach which is visited by spinner dolphins year round and humpback whales in the winter months, Kapoho tide pools which is one of my favorite spots on the island to go snorkeling, Mackenzie Park where you can explore a lava tube, Green Lake which has a great hike through the jungle and beautiful views from the mountain, and naturally heated thermal warm pool. After all your exploring or relaxing you can check out one of the daily yoga classes and book a massage at Kalani Oceanside retreat which is just a mile away.

Your accommodations are on the top floor of a newly renovated house with all new appliances and a fully equipped kitchen. There are sweeping ocean views on the lanai (porch) and beautiful mountain views from both of the bedrooms.

Keywords: A two story house with a beautiful lanai overlooking the ocean and the mountains.

About maxwell

I live in Makawao on the side of the Haleakala Volcano. I work there as a psychologist. I grew up in Minnesota, moved to Florida, and moved again to Maui 15 years ago in search of ever-warmer climates.

maxwell purchased this house in 2005

Why maxwell chose Puna District

The Puna Coast on the Big Island is a very unique place and a wonderful spot for me to get away from Maui and enjoy the quiet of the jungle.

What makes this house unique

It is a short distance away from the ocean and a beautiful retreat center, which offers many ongoing yoga, tai chi, aerial, dance, hula, Hawaiian studies, and Huna healing classes to the community.

Pleasant Setting in the heart of Puna

Hale Nanea's upstairs apartment provides an ocean-facing lanai and the murmur of ocean breezes in the foliage. Its relative remoteness just off the Red Road in Seaview Estates meant we could get to half-a-dozen world-class shore experiences within 20 minutes, from Kapoho tidepools to the lava flows entering the ocean... Maxwell, our host, was gracious and kind, offering to send us a jacket we inadvertently left behind.

Want to go back there

My family of four spent 5 days in this great place and we enjoyed it so much. The home is very clean and spacious, in a quite neighborhood. Maxwell and his beautiful family are very warm hearted. They provide drinking water so you do not have to worry about if having no time shopping for it on the first day. The nice yard has various tropical plants, and there are some orchids growing on the tree. Maxwell provides very nice guidance, we followed it to see the lava flow at night and it is amazing! It is fun to drive along the coastline from there. Nearby we saw two black sand beach, the warm pond, the Kapoho Tide Pools. There is a small local farmers market in short driving distance and the foods are good. Be sure to buy some fruits there. We spent most of our time in Hilo side, also visited south point. The Hawaii Volcanic National Park is not far away, we visited it twice and walked four trails in the park. There are so many to see in this big island and we are happy to find this nice location. My family wants to visit back again. I already recommended it to my friends who wants to visit big island.

Would stay here again for sure

My friend & I stayed here for 2 nights, visiting from Oahu. Hadn't visited the area before. Kitchen & bedrooms were great. Overall pretty quiet, coqui frogs weren't too loud. Sitting out on the lani eating breakfast was lovely, very relaxing. Only issue was no cell signal, wifi was weak depending on where you were in room. Zen the cat super friendly & Maxwell was super nice to deal with.

Great little place located in my favorite part of the island Kalapana. Plenty of hiking trails and a fabulous black sand beach just down the road. The house was located in the back of SeaView Estates so plenty of privacy. Maxwell and his family we're very hospitable and there for all your needs. The home is updated and has a very comfortable bed. The lanai has a nice partial ocean view to relax on. Make sure you have your mosquito repellent that side of island has. The only thing I felt the place needed was a tv and DVD player it gets dark pretty early and not a whole lot to do for entertainment. Overall it was a great stay. Mahalo Maxwell for everything.

Aloha,

Scott&Devin

We had fantastic time

This property worked very well for our family (2 adults, 1 kid 8 years old). Spacious, very quiet (and I mean it), well-equipped kitchen (Berkey water filter surprised us a lot!), lanai at the second floor, private entrance. Maxwell and his family are perfect hosts, their advises were very helpful. We were for 4 days there but wish our stay was longer. A lot of things to see nearby (the most memorable was lava flow viewing) and we definitely didnt' check many of them. Will come back for sure if we stay at this part of the island again.

Cozy & quiet

My third stay at this property was great as always. The property is very quiet and has comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen and a lovely covered lanai with furnishings for four people. All windows are screened and bugs were minimal (considering of course that this is in the jungle). The on-site (downstairs) manager gives you complete privacy but is readily available if there are concerns or questions. This property is well-priced and I always recommend it to friends visiting the area.
