About Kirk Bettison

We built this house in 2013 to be able to share time with our extended family and are so happy to share it with others. We want you to enjoy our house and region as much as we do so do not hesitate to ask questions. We live in the area, so if you need anything, we want you to feel free to call us!

Why Kirk Bettison chose Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville

This property is ideal as it is so close to Crystal Mt but without all the resort crowds. Plus with a maximum occupancy of 8 adults or up to 12 people including kids there is room for your whole group. Our fully appointed kitchen allows you to cook your own meals, even to come back home for lunch or a nap before heading back to the slopes.

What makes this house unique

Comfortably holding 8 adults or up to 12 people including kids it is more economical than staying at the resort, yet a much more luxurious 'home' atmosphere. We built this house and its fixtures to be our own unique family vacation home. We put 25 years of building/woodworking experience into it and it shows.

There is keyless entry so you don't have to keep track of or return a key.

Pet friendly...towels to keep dry, water and food bowls, pet sheets.

Basic pantry supplies available. Flour, sugar, spices, oils, butter, coffee plus there are always farm fresh eggs in the fridge (we have our own chickens at home).

The gourmet kitchen is built for a cook, from the custom finished cabinets to the complete selection of small appliances there is everything you need to create any dish your family loves. The best part is that due to the open floor plan the cook will never be left out of the fun and everybody can help with the meals.

This was a great place to stay especially with a big group. We had 5 adults and 6 kids and we all very comfortable.

Our main agenda was to ski and this home was only 4 minutes from the slope.

We can't wait to come back again.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We were surprised and delighted when we got to Kirk's beautiful home near Crystal Mountain. The house was gorgeous - large gourmet kitchen with everything needed to make fabulous meals, beautiful hardwood floors and huge, heavy doors. The layout of the rooms made it possible to all be together in the family room off the kitchen (where we spent most of our time together). Games were provided and there were an incredible amount of detail that we noticed that made us feel at home. The bedrooms were thoughtfully planned out to provide quiet and privacy along with beautifully appointed bathrooms right off the bedrooms. The outside decks were large and the wooded surroundings added to our enjoyment. Crystal Mountain is located very close to this home but the drive gave us the alone time and quiet that we needed after skiing all day. Absolutely perfect, well done and we can't wait to go back in the summer and explore the area.

Owner's Response: It's always nice when people mention particular things they like about the house. I built it myself from the footings to the roof and every thing in between, so i take the compliments very personal.

Spacious, clean, well stocked place.

  • 5 of 5

This place was great! Kitchen is huge and well stocked. The floor plan is very open and entire house has wood floors. Outside in the back is a nice fire pit, which we did take advantage of. This would be a great place to stay in the fall. The host was great. He checked in on us regularly to make sure everything was ok. We would definitely stay here again if we are back up this way.

Owner's Response: I really try to make sure that people enjoy their visits! The easiest way to make sure that guests are happy is to give them more/better than they expect. It's not a complicated plan but it always seems to work.

Labor Day Weekend 2016, could not have picked a better place for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

The first word out of my mouth when I walked in was WOW!

My daughters and I did research to find a place to bring my 84 year old mom to Michigan to meet her two new great grandbabies for the first time.

As we were doing the research we kept coming back to this place and so glad we made the right decision.

Seven adults, two infants under the age of 3 months and a golden retriever under one roof for a long weekend. This offered us all the room we needed to spend time together and still have privacy that was needed with the babies.

The layout of the house was perfect for all, with the layout of the great room and the kitchen area. Along with the layout of the bedrooms was great for us.

The pictures on the web site don't show case enough as to how wonderful of a place this is.

Nothing was amiss in anything we needed. Loved the kitchen and all it offered for us to prepare and share meals together.

The welcome gift of the home-made wine, fixes for S-mores was a special treat. And can't forget the farm fresh eggs was an added treat. Don't think I can ever go back to store bought eggs again.

This is a must place to book if you are looking for a quiet get-away for families. And still close to all the things there are to do in the area.

We could not have asked for anything better.

Working with Kirk was amazing.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend and giving us memories we will never forget.

Great Grandma loved meeting the babies for the first time!

Great comfortable house. Great for relaxing and close to local attractions.

  • 5 of 5

On a recent vacation to Traverse City with my wife, my daughter and my brother in-law and sister in-law, we needed a place to stay that would accommodate us as well as our two small dogs. I found this listing which was close to Traverse City and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It was close to everything we wanted to do on our vacation. It was available the week we needed and I contacted the owner Kirk to inquire about bringing our dogs with us which was no problem. The house is very roomy and is great for just relaxing or we were close enough to spend time in Traverse City and the Sleeping Bear National Park. This property is the best house we have ever rented. It is new, clean and in a great location. On top of that Kirk provided us with 2 dozen farm fresh eggs, a bottle of homemade wine, and the makings for s’mores. .We will always remember making breakfasts in the kitchen, sharing meals at the long kitchen table, relaxing in the comfortable chairs and sitting around the fire pit making s’mores. We all agreed that we would like to return here on our next trip to Michigan. We would honestly recommend this property.

Overall great stay had a lot of fun.

  • 4 of 5

Overall we had a good experience at Kirks place. You can tell he takes pride in his place and was very accommodating for us and even made us a map of the 4 wheel trails in the area. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was that we wished it was a little more secluded because our family can be a little loud at times especially when on vacation. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that asked me and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Very close to Crystal Mountain and many other attractions.

Owner's Response: My first reaction was to explain how/why i am absolutely certain that the problems we had with this guest are not caused by the proximity of our friends/neighbors. Instead i'll just say that yes i did spend a few hours driving around on our local two tracks making a hand drawn map (that i laminated) because when booking our house these guests asked about two tracks and trails in the area that they could ride their four wheelers on and i coiuldn't find a decent map of the neighborhood trails. I guess if that's what earns four stars, then i am definitely a four star kind of guy !
