|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
The only way to stay closer to the ocean would to be in a boat. Sit back and watch the cruise ships slowly pass by knowing that the passengers aboard are truly envying your luxurious accommodations. This elegant and spacious home offers a nearly 180 degree of the mighty Pacific ocean where you can relax and watch whales as they suddenly breach the blue water, spinner dolphins playfully chase a passing fishing vessel and the rising sun at it welcomes you to an amazing array of morning colors.
Walk through the front door into a vaulted great room with expansive windows looking out to the ocean and all that it has to offer. Hardwood floors, granite kitchen counters, two separate bedroom/bath suites each with its own lanai from which to enjoy the sunrise, the starts and the cool breezes from the ocean. The spacious oceanfront lanai of the house also has an outdoor sink/bar for outdoor entertaining. The home is furnished with high quality furniture that has been handcrafted using several different types of Hawaiian hardwood, lots of beautiful artwork and comfortable furniture. The only thing you will hate about this house is leaving!
This spectacular home features two spacious bedrooms, the Hamakua and the Hilo, each boasting its own private bath. The bathroom of the Hamakua room features an extra large, luxurious Jacuzzi tub with full glass windows offering a wide open ocean view. In addition, a separate door off of the Hamakua bath leads you onto a nice wooden lanai and a fabulous, outdoor shower. This shower is covered by wood and vines on three sides yet open on the ocean side.
We hope that you have had the opportunity to view the great video of this property. Please note that the video depicts both the Pali Lani Seaside Lodge as well as the adjacent The Loft at Pali Lani Vacation Rental.
Need space for additional guests? On the same tropical, nearly 2 acre paradise we offer the quaint, second story, The Loft at Pali Lani vacation rental. This property can be viewed on VRBO listing number 640275 (vrbo #640275) and can also be seen on the video of this property. These two amazing properties can be reserved together at a discounted rate and will sleep a total of 10 guests together. To reserve both properties together, please add $100/nightly to the appropriate seasonal rate, which is for four guests. If you only need the main Pali Lani house but wish to have total privacy during your stay, you can block the rentals of the neighboring Loft for an additional $60/night. This will ensure you have the entire Pali Lani estate to yourself.
While both rentals are located on the same property, there is ample space between the two so that privacy is not an issue. The Loft at Pali Lani is a cozy, two bedroom, one bath structure featuring a fabulous upper deck and full kitchen as well. The two rentals share the same covered parking area but have separate entrances.
Hilo is known for its warm aloha spirit, relaxed lifestyle, unique shops, art galleries and restaurants with local regional cuisine. Local attractions include Lyman Museum, East Hawaii Cultural Center, historic Palace Theatre, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. Hilo Farmer's Market is a favorite for fresh, local produce. Merrie Monarch Festival, Hilo's premier hula competition and cultural event, is held annually. Hilo's black sand beaches and freshwater pools are some of the best for snorkeling, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, or watching the whales off shore. Take a helicopter volcano tour or short scenic drive to active Kilauea volcano to view a lava flow, ride horses in Waipio Valley or tour the summit and view the night skies of Mauna Kea.
We are near Highway 19, only 15 minutes to the town of Hilo, 20 minutes to the Hilo Airport and an approximate 2 hour drive to Kona. This is a great central location to tour and see the incredible experiences the Island of Hawaii has to offer.
We also own another property, Old Sugar Mill Plantation, which is only 4 miles away. It is a great, ocean view home and can accommodate up to 16 persons. Click on 'See our other listings' on this website or you can cut and paste the below into your browser.
Mahalo nui loa!
I am truly blessed to be not only a resident of the Big Island but to have the opportunity to manage such an incredible home for my dear friends. Helen and John, the owners, share my compassion in ensuring our guests feel the true spirit of Aloha while staying at The Loft at Pali Lani or the Pali Lani Seaside Lodge. So that our incoming guests know, in Hawai'i, we like to hug a lot! So if you reach out to shake a hand here, don't be surprised if they give you a hug in return. While you are here, you are family! It's the Hawaiian way of life.
Steve and Julie Cox purchased this house in 2013
We sat on the lanai, saw an amazing humpback whale explosively breach the blue water right before our eyes and we were hooked!
The home sits on the most beautiful and tranquil property you will find. As you approach the home, beautiful, wrought gates slowly open inviting you to your own tropical paradise. Surrounded by vacant land on all sides, you will hear nothing but the sound of the ocean. In season, maybe even a few whales singing to each other.
A recent post form our Guest Book.....My family & I greatly enjoyed our recent visit to Pali Lani, a truly unique and special oceanfront home with an awesome flower garden. The property featured beautifully crafted hardwood furniture pieces, with taste and attention to detail. Bamboo floors all over.. Great master and guest bedrooms with private lanais.. A Chef's kitchen with anything you could possibly need for your culinary creations. A master bathroom with double shower and jacuzzi tub featuring unobstructed view towards the ocean- very romantic. Ah, the sunsets, the breeze.. The stars! A short drive to Hilo, convenient location- beautiful and private. Would love to visit again in the near future! Special thanks to Steve for being such a great host- aloha & mahalo!
We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and couldn't have asked for a better property to begin our adventures of the Big Island. Steve met us at the house and gave us a tour of its features. The view of the ocean was spectacular and the grounds were like walking through a botanical garden. We liked the layout of the house with the two Master Bedroom suites at opposite ends. We had an issue with one of the bedroom's AC units, but Steve had a repairman come out and tend to it immediately. The location was a good starting point to explore Waipio Valley to the north, Hilo and the volcano to the south and all the sites in between. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family.
My wife and I spent 3 nights here and couldn't have been more pleased. The home and surrounding landscaping are beautiful. We encountered no problems during our stay. The owner, Steve, met us upon arrival and pointed out the few quirks: higher than normal counter tops, lack of AT&T cell coverage (our Verizon phones worked well), single TV in smaller bedroom. In our opinion, these were far outweighed by the spaciousness, the sense of privacy (the adjoining "loft" rental was unoccupied during our stay), and the stunning view. Because of the enormous windows, the main room can get a bit warm in the morning but opening a few doors and windows kept the place comfortable. Pull down window shades were present except on one of the main room windows. There are room AC units in each bedroom. We used the one in the master bedroom for about 5 minutes one evening to cool the room but otherwise the cross breeze was more than sufficient and we were very comfortable at night. The kitchen was adequately supplied. Wi-Fi worked well for us. This is a great location from which to explore this part of the island. Hilo is about 12 miles away and Volcanoes National Park is a 50-60 minute drive depending on traffic. There are no grocery stores in the immediate vicinity of the house but we had used Google maps to locate a grocery store in Hilo and stocked up on the way in. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed at this property in late February. The location and setting is exactly as advertised. The large lawn provides an unobstructed view of the ocean. For us, the star attraction was the large garden -- your own private jungle, filled with colourful flowers and shrubs. We never tired of wandering through it. Five stars!
The house is large and well laid out, with the two bedrooms at opposite ends. There are plenty of windows to catch cross-breezes. The living room furniture is adequate.
There were some quirks that you should be aware of, though. The person who designed the house must have loved complex wiring schemes. Every room has twice as many wall switches as you might expect, and it was always a guessing game as to what switch controlled which light. There are several that seemed to control nothing, at least as far as we could figure.
The plates and utensils are somewhat random. We felt that the owner should do an inventory and add to what is there or start over again.
All the kitchen counters, and even all the bathroom counters, are at a non-standard height. If you are tall, as one recent reviewer was, you will appreciate it. Otherwise, cooking and even brushing your teeth will be a bit of a struggle!
Fabulous location, beautiful garden, large, well laid out house. This property has a lot going for it.
We spent three nights here. The ocean view from the house is great and the landscaping around the home is beautiful!
The inside of the home is nicely furnished but there did seem to be details that should have been noticed and resolved prior to our stay...... The TV/cable wasn't working when we tried it the first evening. Steve came over first thing in the morning and was able to do a "work around" that allowed us to see most channels although we could not use the remote. (By the way, the only TV is in the smaller bedroom. This detail is easy to miss in the description info.). There was a light bulb out in our bathroom. And throughout the home they have used the older type CFL bulbs that take a while to get to full light. The kitchen needs to be rearranged to move the dishes to a cabinet where most people could reach them. The kitchen was missing a cutting board and serrated knife. Lastly, the phone is an old princess style and the connection was not great. (You need the phone because there's a good chance that your cell phone will not get reception at the house.)
As people have mentioned in prior reviews, all of the counters in the kitchen and baths are TALL! Definitely not suitable for children or any short statured adults.
The location is great for doing anything on the Hilo side of the island..
Whales and dolphins out your window
Walking garden delightful
Super high counters won't suit everyone
No gas BBQ although there is small charcoal one
Windows needed cleaning
Electrical outlets and lights wonky
For such a beautiful property, there are certain details that one would assume would be present. Therefore we were surprised to find the following:
1. Bedding is far below adequate. The sheets are thread thin and the old pillows need immediate replacement.
2. Lighting throughout needs repair. Either the table lamps don't work due to dead electrical sockets or they just need to be replaced. Ceiling lights need attention as they flicker and then go off. We never got the lights in the ceiling fans to turn 'on'.
3. Quality placemats need to replace the worn out ovals in the house.
4. Windows need cleaning to enhance the view. In fact, the entire place would never pass a white glove inspection and I am referring to the inside.
5. A sink drip needs to be repaired. The toilet in the laundry room overflows.
6. Want to watch TV? Forget it. The cable box is fried.
7. Word to the wise: the second property is too close (10 feet away) to the main house for two different groups.
8. Power outages happen and we experienced one just as the sun was setting. Although we located a few candles and matches, the property (wooden structure) would greatly benefit from an investment in battery powered lanterns.
On the plus side, the high counters everywhere were a real treat. We are both 5'10"+ and loved the height. Wi-fi is unreliable but works occasionally. Regardless of the information regarding weak support, AT&T does not work at all. A land line will connect to the mainland - at times. Patience helps.
Overall, it is a spacious, well-appointed and perfectly located property which needs help.
What a perfect location for a Hawaii vacation. The home is located in the quaint town of Hakalua; a short 15 minute drive north up the scenic highway from Hilo. This allows you to be close enough for the comforts of shopping and dining while providing incredible privacy and the true Hawaiian experience at the same time.
Fabulous short day trips make the location ideal for the traveler desiring to see everything the Big Island has to offer. Akaka Falls State Park is only a 10-minute drive from the home. The beauty of Nani Mau Gardens on the edge of Hilo is a short 20 minute drive. Picturesque Waipio Rim Valley is only a short 45 minute drive away up the scenic Hamakua Coast. Great hikes and sightseeing await you at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is also approximately 45 minutes away.
The home is a short 20 minute drive from the Hilo airport and approximately 1 1/2 hours from the Kona airport.
