About the property

One Bedroom with King Sleep Number Suites On An Acre Of Tropical Landscape

South Kona Hideaway is a licensed Bed and Breakfast perched 800 feet above some of the best snorkeling Hawaii has to offer. We are situated between Honaunau (Place of Refuge) and Kealakekua Bay, home of a pod of spinner dolphins. Your beautifully decorated suite has a living room with a queen sofa bed, large flat screen television with cable, HBO, and Showtime. Your living room opens onto a large lanai, where you can relax and have a cocktail before grilling some fresh fish you bought a mile up the street. Your spacious kitchen has a sink, microwave, toaster, full-sized refrigerator/freezer, and dining table. There is a small camp oven and stove on your front porch. The bedroom has a king sized Sleep Number bed for your comfort, and private bath with shower.

We are easy to find, located approximately 45 minutes South of the airport, 30 minutes South of Kailua-Kona (town), and 20 minutes South of Keauhou. The volcano is approximately an hour and a half Southeast on the main highway. Your suite has dedicated parking, and a private entrance.

We are a small B&B, with only two suites, and we live on site. Don't know what to see? We can give you some recommendations.

Aloha and luxury await you! Welcome home to South Kona Hideaway!

About Tina Snapp and Keri Jones

After many trips to Hawaii, we finally bought a home and relocated here in 2012 from Colorado. Tina is a retired nurse and Keri is a veterinarian. We have travelled the world in search of the best snorkeling, and this rivals the best. We are willing and happy to help with recommendations, but will otherwise be out of your way.

Why Tina Snapp and Keri Jones chose Kona Coast

South Kona Hideaway is one of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed. The property is beautiful, the sunsets incredible, and you're only 10 minutes from beautiful live coral and brightly colored fish. Your own lanai and a cocktail... What more could you want?

What makes this house unique

Your continental breakfast of fresh fruits and home made baked goods will be delivered to your unit the night before and ready when you are. You can get up early or sleep in. You will not have to worry about somewhere to park, or being able to find your way back at night on a one lane jungle road. We are only half a mile off the main highway, on a 'full sized' paved road. Snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and boogie boards are available to borrow during your stay.

We have booked a number of HomeAway rentals over the years and this was one of the best. We spent three weeks travelling around the Big Island and chose the South Kona Hideaway because it looked like a good spot for a quiet final week where we could just chill out and visit a few beaches. The apartment was very comfortable and good value. It was well equipped and well planned and met all our expectations. Getting breakfast for the next day delivered every evening was an unexpected treat, and other bonuses were being able to help ourselves to papayas and avocados and the large range of beach equipment we could borrow. Lovely helpful hosts.

There are two apartments on the property and it would make a good place for a family are friends who want to vacation together but also have some privacy.

The Aloha Spirit lives !!!!

  • 5 of 5

We're so grateful that we stayed with Tina and Kerri. It felt like home. The introduction to different Fruits and the Homemade Muffins were worth the trip alone. The location is perfect. Two-Step is minutes away with some of the best snorkeling on all of the Islands. We swam with wild Dolphins, 3 Eagle Ray's and more colorful Fish than you can count. Kona's about 30 minutes North so it's really peaceful at the Hideaway. After we stayed there for 8 days then we went to Maui for 2 weeks and even though we had fun there not a day went by with thinking about the S. Kona Hideaway ! The Big Island is awesome. Seeing Lava entering the Ocean was a top Nature moment in 55 years. It's an adventure to find the right kind of Beach for you but once you do, it'll overwhelm your Beach Spirit. I'm already researching another trip there for a different time of year to see a different season and taste new Fruits! Thanks to Tina and Kerri again, Charles and Noreen

A Little Bit of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

About a 20 minute drive south of the hustle and bustle of Kona, this relaxing refuge, along with the generous hosts, was a great way to end our Hawaiian vacation. During our 3-day visit, we enjoyed fantastic breakfasts of exotic, tropical fruits (and muffins), courtesy of our hosts. They also provide beach chairs, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, coolers, etc. for their guests. Though this rental is close (10-min drive) to one of the best snorkeling spots on the Big Island (Two Steps at Honaunau), we preferred to snorkel and to relax on the beach at Kahaluʻu Beach Park (about 20-min north & arrive before 10AM to find parking).

We would surely recommend this rental to friends, and we sincerely hope to return someday.

Mahalo to Tina and Keri.

Amazing hosts and a wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the Lanai suite from Jan 19-26, 2017. We arrived late at night and Tina provided perfect directions to their place. The next morning we woke up and met Tina and Keri who are both welcoming people making their home feel like your home. The muffins are the BEST!!! Neither of us really eat muffins but Tina's muffins are amazing as is the fresh fruit that is provided. We really miss eating fresh papaya every morning. The suite itself is perfect for 2 people, it is clean and has everything you need to get by. We borrowed the lawn chairs, beach towels and a cooler to go touring about to fabulous beaches recommended by the hosts. If you tell them what kind of a beach you are interested in (i.e. a beach to just lay around at, snorkel at, with grassy and/or sandy areas, beaches with facilities, etc) they will know exactly where you should go so listen to them as they will not steer you wrong. We also tried many of the restaurants that Tina recommended and we did not regret any of her recommendations. They really are a wealth of knowledge and happy to share. We used the outdoor BBQ and everything worked just fine and everything is as described. Tina and Keri's property is beautiful with coffee trees, papaya's, avocado's, bananas and many more amazing fruits and there is plenty of room for parking your vehicle. The views of the ocean are pretty decent, some days better than others depending on the VOG. Tina and Keri have 2 dogs that roam the property but they do not come up on the rental suites Lanai, so if you are not dog people they will not bother you. There are also a few cats that have adopted Tina and Keri, unfortunately one of the cats that I got attached to was struck by a car while we were there (RIP in Chicken). Oh and they have real chickens too which my wife loved and visited the coop frequently as she wandered the beautiful grounds filled with tons of flora and fauna. The bed was comfy once we figured out how to adjust the firmness settings. I would highly recommend this suite, the price is very reasonable for what you get and Tina and Keri are awesome. We stayed a 2nd week on this island at a major hotel chain and it didn't take long for my wife and I to both say we missed the South Kona Hideaway. If you are looking for a quiet location where you feel "away from it all" then do not hesitate to book at the South Kona Hideaway, you will not regret your choice. It's a sweet little slice of paradise.

Quiet And Spacious Retreat with Delicious Breakfast

  • 5 of 5

We were only in Captain Cook for two nights, but those were two of our favorite nights of our entire trip. The Lanai room is huge for two people, with a lovely deck area overlooking Tina and Keri's farm. We were greeted by friendly chickens, a very clean apartment, fresh baked muffins and fruit, and a quiet night's stay. Hot shower, clean-smelling linens, a working kitchen, and plenty of gear to borrow. Our hosts were so accommodating and helped us find a local's beach where we could launch our kayaks. They had hand-drawn maps showing places to eat and snorkel, and encouraged us to book a last-minute Manta Ray snorkel tour before our flight out of Hawaii—it turned out to be our best experience in Hawaii. Hope to come back soon and will definitely book a few nights here again.
