About Sandy Powers

Dennis and I have been traveling to Kona since 2000. In 2011, Dennis retired and we moved to Kona! We live three miles from the Hale Kona Kai and are available to help you at any time!

Sandy Powers purchased this condo in 2013

Why Sandy Powers chose Kona Coast

The Hale Kona Kai condos are RARELY for sale! We own an oceanfront condo in the Kona Reef complex - right next door - and walk past the Hale Kona Kai on our way to town. This is a beautiful complex, very private and very well maintained. Dennis and I were thrilled to find #410! We know that being close to town/walking distance is very important to our guests, and we really like the finishes in #410.

What makes this condo unique

#410 is on the top floor. Let no one fool you, no lower floor has the awesome oceanfront view of a top floor condo. Additionally, the top floor is the most private and less noisy. Every inch of the inside of #410 is brand new - granite counter kitchen with stainless steel appliances, new sleeper sofa and recliner in the living room, new linens and quilts in the bedroom and new linens in the bath. We have one of the few walk-in tiled showers. The majority of units still have the old cast iron tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Could not have been any better. In fact, we had hoped it would not be so nice, since it makes going home much more difficult. If you have a chance, book a manta night dive or dolphin snorkel with Splashers. Kona Brewery has great food at reasonable prices. Please keep an eye on Norman the sea turtle for us. You can change the name, if you like!

P.S. Thank you for the soft, plush, sweet smelling towels to use during our stay!

Outstanding Condo with Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 8 nights at this incredible condo and had the time of our lives. The owners' photos accurately portray the unit's interior and exterior furnishings, décor, and proximity to the ocean, lava rocks, and waves, which is unbelievable. We drifted off to sleep each night listening to the roar of the waves through an open bedroom window.

The kitchen and bathroom are really beautiful and very well equipped. In fact, the unit has everything one could possibly need for a beach vacation, including ice chests, beach chairs, towels, etc. (But be sure to stop and buy paper products - towels, TP - you'll need more than is provided). A bonus was the discovery of the large container of Kirkland (Costco) body lotion in one of the medicine cupboards - I tried it and fell in love with it! The tropical-style furnishings in the living, dining, and bed rooms are both attractive and comfortable and the table, along with its two chairs, on the lanai was the perfect size for dining alfresco, which we did at least once a day.

The location of the condo is perfect and within an easy walk to nearby restaurants, bars, shops, the marina, etc. The living and bed rooms are equipped with ceiling fans and the entire unit was cooled by a very strong air conditioner, which we typically used only while getting ready in the morning and returning in the afternoon. And the condo has wonderful water pressure, with an amazing shower head in the nicely tiled shower, which provided me with "good hair days" eight days in a row! The only suggestion I would make is that a "Smart TV for Dummies" be provided; my husband could not get the living room TV to work!

We were very impressed with the friendliness of the condo's staff, especially Ainsley and Adeline, and other guests. Thanks to Ainsley and his crew, the condo's grounds, pool, landscaping, etc are impeccable and Adeline, the building manager, was very kind to print out our boarding passes for us. Hale Kona Kai exudes the aloha spirit.

We'd only been to the Big Island once before, choosing instead to visit Maui, Kauai, or Waikiki for our yearly visits to Hawaii, but this trip changed our minds. We love the diversity of the BI and had more adventures during our recent 8 glorious days than we've had in years. We're already talking about a return trip in the near future and will definitely stay in Unit #410 or another of Sandy and Dennis' condos. We were 100% satisfied with our stay.

Great Owners!

  • 5 of 5

We would concur with all of the positive comments from other reviews about Hale Kona Kai #410. Everything is exactly as stated in the description and the previous reviews are spot on. The only thing we would add is that the owners are the best to deal with! We have been renting from VRBO for many years all over the world. Sandy is clearly the best owner/manager we have ever worked with. Her immediate and attentive communication made for easy booking, payment, and enjoyment! Thanks for everything, Sandy!

A great last-minute stay

  • 5 of 5

We made a last minute decision two weeks out to take a trip to Kona. We weren't sure what was available, nor the quality on such short notice. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw this rental (#410 Hale Kona Kai), and even happier when we got there. Things were new, clean and it was well-equipped in the kitchen. When it was hot, the unit was cool. And the view over the ocean is an absolute knockout. We could sit on the deck for hours. The location in Kona was great as well--close-in, walking distance to lots of places, but a little off the traffic. We've been to Hawaii hotels, but a condo is truly the place to relax and unwind. A great base to explore the rest of the island.

Well maintained, good-looking condo with everything you need! Great lanai to sit and watch the tides and hear the surf on the rocks.

It was a perfect getaway for two!

Comfortable condo with a great view

  • 4 of 5

The condo is conveniently located close to town, but not too close. Very quiet. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable bed and fabulous view. Appreciate the quarters for the washer and dryer. The condo was very clean when we arrived. The property only has one barbecue and no real common area (other than pool). The woman in the office would not print out our boarding passes. She told us to go to the library. Do not follow that advice unless you have a Kona library card. The other, more friendly office staff was happy to print out our passes. We had a wonderful dinner at Jackie Ray's, just up the hill from the condo. This was a nice place to stay.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A real pleasure to transition back to normal. Quiet, convenient, perfect. Clean, everything works, completely equipped. We could have stayed for months. We were getting tired of hotels and lodges, restaurant meals, and cramped rooms. Great location. Very relaxing enjoying the view and sounds of the ocean. Great snorkeling, great beaches, two beautiful gardens within reasonable driving distance. I don't think we will ever stay in an hotel again. Outstanding experience. Thank you Sandy and Dennis.
