About Sandy Powers

Dennis and I have been traveling to Kona since 2000. In 2011, Dennis retired and we moved to Kona! We live three miles from the Hale Kona Kai and are available to help you at any time!

Sandy Powers purchased this condo in 2013

Why Sandy Powers chose Kona Coast

The Hale Kona Kai condos are RARELY for sale! We own an oceanfront condo in the Kona Reef complex - right next door - and walk past the Hale Kona Kai on our way to town. This is a beautiful complex, very private and very well maintained. Dennis and I were thrilled to find #410! We know that being close to town/walking distance is very important to our guests, and we really like the finishes in #410.

What makes this condo unique

#410 is on the top floor. Let no one fool you, no lower floor has the awesome oceanfront view of a top floor condo. Additionally, the top floor is the most private and less noisy. Every inch of the inside of #410 is brand new - granite counter kitchen with stainless steel appliances, new sleeper sofa and recliner in the living room, new linens and quilts in the bedroom and new linens in the bath. We have one of the few walk-in tiled showers. The majority of units still have the old cast iron tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Could not have been any better. In fact, we had hoped it would not be so nice, since it makes going home much more difficult. If you have a chance, book a manta night dive or dolphin snorkel with Splashers. Kona Brewery has great food at reasonable prices. Please keep an eye on Norman the sea turtle for us. You can change the name, if you like!

P.S. Thank you for the soft, plush, sweet smelling towels to use during our stay!

A great last-minute stay

  • 5 of 5

We made a last minute decision two weeks out to take a trip to Kona. We weren't sure what was available, nor the quality on such short notice. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw this rental (#410 Hale Kona Kai), and even happier when we got there. Things were new, clean and it was well-equipped in the kitchen. When it was hot, the unit was cool. And the view over the ocean is an absolute knockout. We could sit on the deck for hours. The location in Kona was great as well--close-in, walking distance to lots of places, but a little off the traffic. We've been to Hawaii hotels, but a condo is truly the place to relax and unwind. A great base to explore the rest of the island.

Well maintained, good-looking condo with everything you need! Great lanai to sit and watch the tides and hear the surf on the rocks.

It was a perfect getaway for two!

Comfortable condo with a great view

  • 4 of 5

The condo is conveniently located close to town, but not too close. Very quiet. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable bed and fabulous view. Appreciate the quarters for the washer and dryer. The condo was very clean when we arrived. The property only has one barbecue and no real common area (other than pool). The woman in the office would not print out our boarding passes. She told us to go to the library. Do not follow that advice unless you have a Kona library card. The other, more friendly office staff was happy to print out our passes. We had a wonderful dinner at Jackie Ray's, just up the hill from the condo. This was a nice place to stay.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A real pleasure to transition back to normal. Quiet, convenient, perfect. Clean, everything works, completely equipped. We could have stayed for months. We were getting tired of hotels and lodges, restaurant meals, and cramped rooms. Great location. Very relaxing enjoying the view and sounds of the ocean. Great snorkeling, great beaches, two beautiful gardens within reasonable driving distance. I don't think we will ever stay in an hotel again. Outstanding experience. Thank you Sandy and Dennis.

Perfection on the Ocean

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Hale Kona Kai for 5 nights. It was the perfect accommodation for our first trip to the Big Island. It was just as pictured with a nicely appointed kitchen and bath and a comfortable bed. The lanai and bedroom window overlooked the waves crashing on the rocks below. It's set on a quiet street and there was no traffic noise. The kitchen was well stocked with all the essentials. It even had baggies and Tupperware to pack lunches. The owners made us feel very welcome with a welcome basket complete with coffee, candies, laundry detergent, and even quarters for the machines. The closet was packed with essentials for our adventures. There was snorkeling equipment for two, a cooler, beach towels, 2 boogie boards, sand chairs, and an umbrella. The TV had Netflix to enjoy while winding down after a long day. As a bonus, the bathroom had shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and a hair dryer. We really liked the easy walk to restaurants and downtown shopping. On our last night we walked to Lava Java for an amazing salad and fresh Ahi bruschetta. We also enjoyed fantastic Mai Tais during Happy Hour at Don the Beachcomber right next door. I highly recommend staying at this unit. We hope to return ourselves someday.

Lovely Kona condo

  • 5 of 5

What a stunning view from this condo in Kona! Just walking up the outside steps was amazing with its panoramic view. The condo was everything that we expected after reading other reviews. It was quiet, clean and well-equipped. We hardly noticed anyone else around us at all. Loved the tile floors and granite kitchen counter. The master bed was roomy with comfy sheets and pillows. So nice to have boogie boards, beach towels and snorkel equipment for our use. Loved using them at Mauna Kea Beach. We loved the Farmers market that was a few blocks away. My big treat was 3 papaya for $1 near closing on a Sunday! We enjoyed boating with Dan McSweeny's whale watch tour and traveling to Volcano National Park and seeing the lava at night from the observatory.
