Samantha and I met about 6 years ago while working at a hospital together and developed a great friendship that developed into a relationship. We now live together with with our three dogs about 2 1/2 hours North-West of Big Bear. We enjoy getting together with family and friends and making new memories. We love traveling to new destinations and meeting new people along the way. We are adventurous and love to try anything outdoors, which led us to snowboarding here in Big Bear where we knew we wanted to have a permanent place to come back to, with all of our family and friends!
Ken Shute and Samantha Grace purchased this cabin in 2013
We were inspired to look for a property in Big Bear after renting a cabin there a couple of years ago. We had such a great experience and loved having a cabin to come back to after a day of snow boarding. We both have busy schedules and need a time out every now and then. We wanted to find a cabin that would not only be a nice getaway for us, but for others to enjoy as well.
We chose this particular cabin because it is close to everything we could ever want to do, but located in a quiet neighborhood that still makes us feel like we are in a small mountain town. The cabin itself is large enough to have all of our friends and family over to just hang out and enjoy each others company. the Gambrel style is our favorite style of cabin, as it embraces the typical cabin style living. Inside, we especially loved the worm and natural wood walls, large wood beams on the ceiling, and beautiful stone fireplace. All of these things made us fall in love with our Cozy Cabin Retreat and we hope you will too!
We had a great stay at this cabin for the weekend! Its about a five minute drive from Big Bear Mtn./Summit and close to Vons (this was in snowy conditions with chains on). The cabin comfortably fit our group of friends and could probably fit 20 its so spacious. The hot tub was broken the weekend of our stay, but the owner let us know ahead of time and refunded a fair portion of the cost. The owners were very helpful and gave us clear information to let us enjoy our stay worry free. Would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking to have fun in the mountains.
The spa was half filled and dirty. When I contacted the owner about it, the response was that the pipes broke a few weeks ago and a repair man would be out to fix it. We were not notified of this prior to our arrival. Or during the booking process. This was the last reponse we got from the owners. Day 2: Spa looks exsactly the same. The owners did not respond to any of my texts regarding follow up to the spa.
We booked this cabin for the spa. To have a soak after a day on the slopes. The spa was dirty and non-operational. On top of that we still got charged the FULL amount. Horrible customer service.
Also the water heater ran out of hot water after washing minimal dishes. My child had to take a sponge bath using boiled water from the stove. I don't know why it was doing that... but again... did NOT get any response at all when I asked about it.
Funny how people don't want to bother with you when you're having a problem with their product.... but boy are they quick to take your money!!!!
We didn't even want to use the fireplace because if the house smells like smoke you could lose your deposit.
Overall this experience sucked. It started off well with high hopes, but as we kept asking questions and not getting answers I felt sick. We travelled thousands of miles to see big bear. And to deal with this was terrible and embarrassing. I really feel like these owners would just leave you high and dry and take your money. If you like working amenities and costumer service consider someplace more commercialized. The cost would be about the same.
On the plus side: the cabin was cozy. Heater worked (thank god). One bed was comfortable and the couch was comfy for watching basic cable.
Love everything about the cabin! It's perfect accommodate for a group getaway. It has everything. The owner is super nice and easy to communicate with. Definitely would like to book here again in the future.
I had seen the cabin online, my husbands first impression was "I hope it looks better inside than the outside".
We went in and it was freezing, couldn't get the heater to work. We hadn't bought firewood yet for the fireplace. I must say the fireplace is very nice. Property management had to come and check heater, my husband stayed to wait for the repairman. So I left to buy firewood and steaks for dinner to BBQ. Well make a long story short we didn't BBQ.
We were there for Thanksgiving dinner, when I opened the oven it was very dirty. The refrigerator was was clean. If we were going to use the hot-tub we would of had to wait for someone to come and fill it. I happen to hear a noise and the spa was on and it had alittle water on the bottom. I guess someone left it on. The kitchen lighting and throughout the cabin was horrible. One lamp in the living room so it made it really dark. I like a lot of lighting, especially in the kitchen. We ended spending our dinner at the timeshare (world mark) that my son was staying at. We hauled everything over there cause I had cooked mostly everything the night before. They had a dining room, and a bar area with 3 stools so we all sat comfortably. Check the cupboard for the stuff that they have there which is very nice, however some of the stuff was expired. We washed some clothes and when I went to put in the clothes in the dryer, the clothes were sopping wet. I had to run the spin cycle twice and finally I had to wring the water out of the clothes by hand cause the spin cycle was not doing its job. and of course I had to run the dryer a couple of time for the clothes to dry. It just seemed like it one thing after another. I called the owner, to address the issues I had, he responded promptly and he will address the cleaning issues that I sent pictures of. I don't want to bash the place but it does need alittle TLC. Its nice inside but it wasn't for us. Make note that it only has one bathroom downstairs. The bedrooms are upstairs so coming down the steep stairs at night is not fun. You have to keep the stair light on all night. This was our first time staying in Big Bear, I wished it would of been a better experience. I think if it was alittle cleaner we could of made the best of it, but it kind of gross us out. The pictures on the internet look great so I thought it would be a nice place to stay. My husband did not agree.
We had a great time. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the games provided and the spa was very relaxing. There was cable TV (which isn't always provided at some places), which kept us all well entertained when we weren't biking or playing outside. Cabin is on a nice quiet street with friendly neighbors. Great sleeping arrangements and comfortable accommodations. Would recommend for families, singles, seniors..... Anyone!!
Great cabin that can sleep 10 kitchen is well stocked with with utensils plenty of blankets and towels parking for 4 cars and close to everything in town. Jaccuzi is also a great plus with this cabin. Next time I'm in big bear would definitely rent again if available
