Overview

About the property

3/2 cabin on 3 acres of secluded picturesque waterfront. (Sleeps 10)

WE ARE BACK! The Owl and Dove River Haus (formerly the Oar Haus) is back and better than ever. After a two-year hiatus we've decided it's time to share this place again.

Love the Guadalupe River, but not all the crowds? Serenity and fun await you at the Owl and Dove River Cabin! The cabin sits on a private, park-like reserve, on a deep two mile section of the river between Lakes McQueeney and Dunlap. Because the Owl and Dove sits between the dams, there are no ski boats or tubers in your backyard. It’s like having the river to yourself! The cabin is surrounded by a ranch and backs up to the river, with another ranch on the opposite bank and only one directly neighboring property. During your stay, there is a high probability that -- outside of fish, birds, squirrels and deer -- you may not encounter another living soul. Peace and Quiet!

EVENTS: The Owl and Dove has enough elbow room to host small weddings, family reunions, and group retreats, and beckons friends and family to enjoy time together without all the distractions of the daily grind. Come kick off your shoes and relax. Spend some quality time on the back porch and watch the sunset over the cypress lined Guadalupe River. Bait a hook or pitch some horseshoes, grab a lawn chair and read a book, fire up the BBQ for the day’s fresh catch and enjoy a glass of wine at your private waterfront retreat… this is the place to simply escape and unwind. Call to learn more about our camp ground rental and events scheduling.

The cabin sits up on a hill overlooking the property and the river. Spend your days kayaking, swimming, and fishing out your back door, where your family is sure to create memories that will last a lifetime. After sunset, go warm up next to a cozy fire under the bright stars as the moonlight sparkles on the water. Then come inside and enjoy a comfortable night’s rest. Wake up to birds chirping in the mammoth pecan tree behind the cabin, and watch deer pass by from the sunroom.

The Owl and Dove is located between the two historic settlements of New Braunfels and Seguin; and within 40 minutes of Austin and San Antonio. Once you arrive, be prepared to drive down a one mile dirt road that meanders through a canopied hall of trees and ends at a secluded get-a-way. Whether you want to sit on the large deck and watch the wildlife, or go out and enjoy the wild life, this cabin lets you leave the world behind but stay close to the fun. If you’re not familiar with New Braunfels, I’ll sum it up in two words… swimsuits and boots. You’ll find no shortage of water sports, live music, incredible food, and down-home friendly people in this part of the country, and no shortage of opportunities to sit and fish from the banks of our beautiful river. Come see what time off is supposed to feel like.

The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The master includes 2 queens, with a spacious master bath. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms each will have a queen with a twin bunk. The cabin is well-appointed with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. There are two dining areas, a sunroom, and a living room with skylights and a cozy fireplace. For your entertainment, we provide: wi-fi internet, cable, 3 grills (gas/coal/smoker), life vests, tubes, inflatables, kayaks, canoes, fishing poles and standup paddleboards – ALL INCLUDED! We hope to see y’all soon, and we hope the Owl and Dove will bring as much joy into your lives as it does to ours.

Use of all river toys included - 10% discount for all confirmed returning guests – can be combined with 10% veteran/senior discount

Great Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for our annual family vacation. Everyone absolutely loved it! The sun room was perfect for my grandmother, she loved sitting and watching the wildlife make their way through the backyard. Very peaceful yet fun family spot!

Peace

  • 5 of 5

My family and I found peace here. We connected with nature and began to heal after a tragedy. I can't say enough great things about this place and the owner Shane. The birds singing, fish jumping, turtles, deer, cranes, nature at its finest. Kids had a blast. Even a double rainbow in the sky.

Wonderful Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a weekend bachelorette party with 5 girls. We had the most relaxing getaway and the Oar Haus is simply perfect. Shane, the owner, was beyond helpful and welcoming. He has everything you could need at the Oar Haus, not to mention the beds are SO COMFY!!!! It was beautiful scenery and there was a trail leading to the Rapids on the river that Shane has been clearing. Shane was available for any needs or questions we had. A wonderful time!

Lots of Space for Various types of groups

  • 4 of 5

We arrived down the dirt road and were surprised to find that this was our cabin. There was some stuff in the yard that made it look a little rinky-dinky, but the owner had told me they're still doing some work on the place. Once we got in, we found it to be an excellent place with lots of space. It's not a luxury house, but all the accommodations are clean and inviting. We went with 5 guys as a retreat sort of weekend to go tubing and whatnot. We also wanted some privacy. There are neighbors (who we could hear yelling at each other at one point), but you don't really see them. Unfortunately, we were there during drought season, so we had a brown experience. However, I suspect that the property is beautiful when there has been rain.

We really enjoyed the use of various water toys in the shed. We did some morning kayaking and canoeing each day. The property is quite large... we even played disc golf using the trees! They have a short/small dock area which is deep enough to jump out into (I wouldn't dive). They are at a bend in the river so some algae could build up, but we got over it. We even caught a catfish!

Each night we grilled (charcoal grill) and then ate on their deck area with the stringed lights they had put out. It was so great we spent hours after dinner just hanging there.

A great place I'd definitely recommend for families or friends who are looking for a great place to come back to (or stay at) and relax.

Owner's Response: It was an awful drought! We actually considered cancelling reservations because Mother Nature was being so mean to us all (it's green now). The moss issue affected most of the Guadalupe River last summer. Good point about overhearing neighbors. While there are very few neighbors down here, we are in a canyon, of sorts, and voices carry. If someone hollers for a kid to come up from the river, you’ll hear it. We, also wholeheartedly, discourage diving from the dock. While the average depth is 5-7 feet at the dock, we’d prefer to avoid the risk, too. We’ve seen furniture, RVs and structures float down the Guadalupe during a flood. Who knows what the heck Mother Nature has deposited around our dock? Please don’t dive. We would like mention, this particular vacation rental is best suited for families, weddings, and retreats, but not the best place for bachelor party type gatherings. We’re sad to hear our guests didn’t the best experience possible, after the stay. We like to think of anyone who stays here as part of the Oar Haus family. (We love it when families come back!) To that end, we go out of our way to make ourselves available to address any issues our guests may have. Those who’ve visited know we are committed to making sure their vacation is amazing. We've responded to burned out light bulbs, ant hills, and to talk to neighbors… no issue is too small. We want every guest to have a 5-star stay (we invest too much ourselves to be content with a 4-star experience - if even just this one). The main reason we like to speak with our guests prior to booking is to make sure they understand this is a true land of liberty "down here by the river." If you want acres of privacy and freedom from a world of HOAs and restrictions on the river… this is where you find it. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get, but there ain’t nothin’ fancy about unrestricted river property in the Texas Hill Country. Before you rent, please note this disclosure about the shortcomings/risks of our property - we have: critters & wildlife (deer, snakes, raccoons, dogs, turkeys, deer, bobcats, waterbugs, bats, spiders, lighting bugs, ducks, deer in rut, armadillos, ants, woodpeckers, owls, deer, etc.), droughts, floods, hail, wind, uneven ground, wild Americans, long walks, dirt roads, potholes, amazing sunsets, and dropped cell coverage. Glad these boys had a good time at the Oar Haus. We appreciate your business and feedback. Thanks for visiting!

Dream Wedding

  • 5 of 5

I looked around at several vacation homes to have my dream outdoor wedding. As soon as I visited The Oar Haus I knew this would be the place I would marry my soulmate. The property is very well kept inside and out. The river made a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and my wedding pictures turned out gorgeous. Nature is the best wedding decor and The Oar Haus had plenty of natural scenic views that were perfect for photos. The wide open space provided the perfect spot for the reception. Shane allowed me to view the property a few times so that I could get a good idea of how I wanted to set it all up. He even provided two white canopies for us to use and they came in handy! My guests raved about what a perfect little spot this was for a wedding and I couldn't agree more.

When you are planning a DIY wedding, there are a million things you have to consider. Parking wasn't something I even thought about. Lucky for me, Shane created a brand new parking area and directed traffic, making my wedding stress free.

After all was said and done, my guests left at the end of the night having had an amazing time celebrating our special day, and my husband and I spent the rest of our time at the Oar Haus enjoying all the amenities it had to offer. We relaxed on the hammock for a few hours watching deer run by and we spent some time canoeing down the peaceful river enjoying our first days as husband and wife. I couldn't imagine our wedding any other way. We are excited to return every year for our anniversary and reminisce on what a wonderful time we had on the day we got married.
