Good value but small space

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for 5 days, 6 nights in Sept 2017. Overall this was fine and we enjoyed our stay but there were a few things that need attention.

The porch light was burned out which didn't help our nighttime arrival to figure out where to enter the unit. This should be addressed and better signage would help new arrivals.

There is no A/C in this unit and the place was an oven throughout our stay. Ceiling fans helped but being on the ground floor you don't want to sleep with windows open, for security reasons. To really cool the place, you need to open the windows & air it out. The windows and blinds need a good cleaning - they were gross to touch; I had to wash my hands every time.

There was something yucky in the kitchen sink pipes-the few times I used it (to wash hands) a very rotten smell came out. This should be addressed. Along the same lines, the bathroom shower needs a good cleaning, with pink bacteria growing on the walls after just a few days' use.

Be aware that even though it says "no parties" in the unit info, there are parties all around the other units nearby & in this building. If this bothers you, think about another booking.

The parking is adequate for a smallish vehicle. It's on the corner spot of an adjacent building across the alley so if your vehicle/rental is long, you'll have an issue. We rented a small SUV & it was fine.

This unit does have 3 bedrooms, and 1 has the laundry (stackable washer/dryer) in the room. The 2nd bedroom has a bunk bed with full size on bottom & twin on top, but no window. This room has a good fan, and my daughter said the double bed was comfortable.

The rooms all have TVs, which some families might appreciate. This unit is very small though, & has no view so I can't imagine "hanging out" here very much while you're in town. We were mostly out & about, returning at night. If you just need a homebase for a visit in town, this is a good option. If you're wanting the dazzle of ocean view, or any view, keep looking.

The beach access is nearby (around the side of the building) which was really nice and we enjoyed being right at the beach as well as in walking distance to pizza, coffee, breakfast & all other restaurants & shops nearby.

Best condo ver!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here from Sept 7 - 12th. We have stayed on Mission Beach for the last 5 years and this was by far the best condo for the location and the money. The web cam feature was so useful as my 13 year old could go on the beach and I could keep an eye on him. The beds were comfy and for being a small unit they made wonderful use of the space. The patio is small but since we are just a short walk from the beach it didn't matter. You can hear the surf from there. We are already picking our dates for 2018 staying here again. Thank you Maria!

The property is cute.

The overall stay was a disaster, my husband has an over sized truck. Bad idea to take it but, even my Escalade wouldn't have fit in the spot that was designated to us. So we got a ticket and had to pay to park elsewhere. My daughter took her car as well. The property owner of another condo told my husband and her that they could have the spot because he as well had an oversized truck. My daughters car end up getting towed. We stayed the weekend of July 10th and still have not received our deposit back. Before leaving even though we paid for cleaning I made sure everything was picked, trash was out and was properly swept. I left the clean dishes in the sink to dry. So other than it being an okay property, the rest wasn't a great outcome.

Great location, condo not properly cared for.

  • 3 of 5

Loved the location, but too many things not properly cared for in the condo. Didn't like the third bedroom in laundry room. Unfortunately washer did not work. Notified management, and no one came to fix it in the next 5 days. Cleaning staff said it hadn't been working in the past. Kitchen nice. Nice parking spot. Views of a wall and ally. I expected more for the money I paid.

It was wonderful to be able to walk right out to the beach for a more reasonable price.

There are shells everywhere on the shoreline, mostly broken, but good ones too. Small children could be kept busy for hours playing. Older children and teens can mess around in the waves with the belly boards from the apartment. We went in mid February, so the water and weather were cold. We rented wetsuits ($60 each for the week) and had a blast playing in the ocean. You have stores and restaurants within walking distance. We have teenage children that we could watch from inside the unit on a television that was filming the ocean in front of the apartment building. There isn't a direct view, but the tv view is great.

The locals said that Mission Beach is the tourist beach (and the one to "get laid"), Pacific Beach is where the alcohol drinkers are, and Ocean Beach is where the marinuana smokers are. Ocean Beach is the nicest neighborhood of the three. We rented a car and visited a gold mine in Julian California that has some rocks with with a tad of real gold in them (pyrite and mica too). We didn't visit the tourist mine. We had the location of an abandoned mine so we could explore and collect as we pleased. Older children and teens would like the abandoned mines, but it is definitely not a trip for younger children.
