Located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Croghan NY this Adirondack Vacation Rental destination is sure to please anyone!
The historic school house offers 3 relaxing bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen, reading alcove, wood-stove, pillow-top beds and many guest amenities. With cherry hard-wood finishes and a spiral stair case highlighting the cathedral-ceilinged living room, this is not your average vacation cottage.
Care was taken to preserve the history of this building which at one time served as a church and later as a schoolhouse for Belfort. With a nod toward the history of the building, decorative glass windows were selected by the architect and the original flooring was restored to a new shine. In addition modern comforts like radiant in-floor heating and solar thermal domestic hot-water were implemented to meld the old and new in a complimentary way.
Just 1.5 hours north of Utica and 2 hours from Syracuse the Old Belfort Schoolhouse offers a quiet respite from the modern world. For those seeking a get-away that is something different than the crowds of Old Forge, this accessible Adirondack vacation rental offers wonderful access to the best of the Adirondacks with the comforts of a beautiful home to stay in.

Why Mike Steiger chose Belfort
This property is historically significant as it served as both a Church and later as a Schoolhouse in Belfort. During the renovations we focused on preserving the architecturally significant elements using decorative glass windows and preserving the pulpit area while adding in energy efficient modern features like radiant in-floor and solar-thermal heating.

Beautiful home & location!
We highly enjoyed our stay here! I loved the little extra uniqueness of the renovated Schoolhouse, especially the window seat. The owners were very kind and quick to communicate with!
The Perfect Place - Beautiful Getaway
I couldn't have been happier! This place is truly amazing. The house is beautifully done. Two thumbs up to the architects. Went here for Labor Day weekend to get away from the rat race of the city. So much to do around the beautiful area of Croghan. Kayaks available for rent. Used them one day and went across the road to the Beaver River, beautiful scenery. Minimal packing required for this trip, food and clothes pretty much all you need to bring with you. They pretty much have anything and everything you can think of available for use in this gorgeous home. Just a walk down the road is the Belfort Inn. Nice little place to stop in for a cold one. I would highly recommend this place to all. I will be back again to stay, sooner than later I hope. Oh ... and did I mention the wonderful hot tub. Most enjoyable!!!!! 5 star recommendation from me!!!
Beautiful home and relaxing getaway
The home was wonderfully remodeled and comfortable for five adults. The hot tub and firepit allowed for great catching up and night time star viewing. There are lots of little hikes around the area and the towns of Lowville and Croghan both have cute stores. We throughly enjoyed kayaking, with water access very nearby. Things that should be noted are the lack of fridge items, so bring your own ketchup etc. Also, there were no beach/outdoor towels or first aid items available. The owners were friendly and helpful overall, I would definitely stay again but be sure to bring a few extra items.
Perfect place to spend Maple Weekend!
This is a great house, and everything was in excellent condition. We enjoyed very much staying there
We came there for cross-country skiing and to meet the New Year. It was a perfect, very pleasent place for the celebration.
New York, NY
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Belfort schoolhouse. Our son was visiting from Arizona and wanted to get back to the north country. The house was amazingly renovated, and exceeded our expectations. We hit peak leaf season, and we are always glad to get back to such a ruggedly beautiful area. This is a very unique and comfortable rental. We are already making plans to return.
