It had been an exhausting day. I had missed my first flight from San Francisco to Boston (8a.m.), due to traffic tie-ups. Fortunately, another plane left four hours later. By the time I arrived in Boston, my waiting family had all gone to bed and I would not be seeing them that day. It was raining in Boston, I picked up my rental and began the trip up to Exeter. It was 11p.m. I was exhausted and bleary eyed and I don't know if this ever happens to anyone else, but my GPS got me lost and at 12:30 a.m., I was wandering around in the pouring black no more than a block away from my rental, without knowing. When I finally found the little house (with lights a-blazing and pumpkins lining the entry) I was near weeping. I sloshed to the door with all my trappings, opened it and walked in.
This little house was more than I had imagined! It felt like home the instant I walked in. It could not have been nicer if there had been a warm cup of your favorite drink and a cozy fireplace blazing. I lingered over every sweet space, taking in all the special touches my hostess had lovingly added - from the antique blue bottles and blue stripped clay ware on the shelves in the kitchen, to the cozy living room which during the daylight hours would be filled with light and endless scenes of New England Autumn beauty, to my bedroom (lucky me!!!) with soft beautiful linens and lovely antiques filling the room. I fell asleep quickly under down comforter, to the continuing sound of rain. I "played house" for a week in this charming place. Hopi was the perfect hostess who, unfortunately I never saw, but spoke to daily in answer to all my needs. The little house was spotless, charming with sophisticated accents while still maintaining a cottage feel , had all the basics for simple living, was close to shopping and the darling town of Exeter and most importantly, a five minute drive to my grandchildren. I did not want to leave. Everyone who came to the house, from young to old, would happily and excitedly look through everything and settle in their favorite place. I loved it. If granted opportunity, I will be going back several times a year to my little cottage home, in Exeter New Hampshire. Thank you VRBO and thank you Hopi, for this wonderful experience! The property was charming, comfortable and unassuming. We would definitely stay again.
From start to finish Hopi was quick with any questions we needed answered. The home is absolutely adorable. Very clean, modern appliances, with all rustic decorations. Just perfect. The yard/garden was an exceptional view. She invited my children to pick crops from the garden. Coming from NJ it was such a different experience for my boys, and they will never forget it. We stayed for a long weekend, Friday to Sunday. Right down the road is Applecrest Farms, which is also a bistro, farm to table dining. Food was AMAZING!! you can also buy anything a local market would carry, so we bought eggs etc. for breakfast the next day. We sat outside, had drinks and the best dinner ever. A little on the pricier side, but well worth every penny! Highly recommend it. The home is about 25 min from Maine, so we visited the nubble light house and York Wild Animal Kingdom zoo, walked around by the lighthouse, as there is shopping, ice cream, and just very cute area. We also drove two hours to Flume Gorge for hiking. Worth the ride. Stunning views. We then went into Portsmouth and ate at The River House. Clam chowder was great. Then LOTS of stores, restaurants and shopping. Portsmouth is a very cute town as well. Overall, the home, with its New England charm exceeded all of our expectations. We already know that we will be back and renting this home again. Thank You Hopi and family for a great experience for our first NH trip!!
This is an adorable Cottage, very clean and great location. The Cottage is much nicer than the pictures show. We would definitely rent this the next time we are in the area.
A great place for a short or a long stay in the area. The cottage is very well maintained and it is in a great location for exploring or taking walks in the country without being far from town!
Amazing place that was a great jumping off point on our honeymoon to Maine. We were able to stay several nights in this cute cottage, while making several day trips to Portland, Ogunquit, Freeport, and Boothbay Harbor. Everything was clean, plenty of towels and extra blankets, and the owner even set out a bottle of Chapagne for our first night! This is definitely a great place for adventurers to start their journey or for couples seeking a romantic getaway.
