Saint James City House Rental Photos and Description

2 Plus Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

NEW FOR SUMMER 2015 - SCREENED POOL AND LANAI

This is a wonderfully situated Ol' Key West style home. It's just 5 or 6 houses up the Paradise Canal to your private dock and fish cleaning station. Upon boating out of the Paradise Canal, you will be looking directly at Sanibel Island with Ft Myers beaches to the left through the Sanibel bridges. To the right will take you to Captiva Islands, Cayo Costa (state park island), and many smaller islands and keys. Don't miss Cabbage Key, home of 'cheese burger in paradise'. These waters hold truly world class fishing, including the Tarpon capitol of the world, Boca Grande Pass. You will see Dolphin almost every time you go out, starting in the canal. However, you don't have to go that far to fish. Try right off the dock. You are also situated in some of the best kayak and wade fishing in Florida.

Pine Island is a hold back from the Florida of old. It is solid relaxation. There are no high rises and crowded beaches on the island. Reaching Florida's finest, and secluded beaches is best by boat, so bring yours or rent one locally. Tie it up in your back yard.

Check out the local history. Pirates of all sorts and fame ran these waters. Many say there is still buried treasure on these islands. Did you know Ponce de Leon was shot in a skirmish with the Calusa Indians off Pine Island, and later died in Cuba from the arrow wound?

Eat, Drink, Fish, Relax, Relax.

About owner: Barry Ruehlen

We used to take family vacations to my grandparents home in Panama City some 55 years or so ago. The memories are still strong. My wife and I decided to look for a second home in Florida to enjoy the warmth and fishing when we retire. After about two years of looking at different areas, we drove through the Matlacha area to see Pine Island. That was that. Here we are.

owner: Barry Ruehlen purchased this house in 2005

What makes this house unique

Even though the island is so laid back, there are still many island style restaurants to go to by car or boat. There is a great community pool at island center to enjoy as well.

Love it

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay, this time for 2 months. We'd liked the property before, but now it is even better. We enjoyed the heated pool, especially since January was cool and windy. Also, both baths had been upgraded. And the laundry facility was upgraded to a very nice stacked LG system. We love he neighborhood, particularly since we meet so many other travelers and locals. If you are looking for something off the beaten track, with water access consider this property.

Staying at Lemon Drop is like staying at a Friends home

  • 5 of 5

Pine island is a wonderful place to vacation, and Lemon Drop makes you feel like home.Besides the beds and pillows being very comfortable, the living room couches and chairs allows for a wonderful evening after a busy day visiting surrounding areas. I purchased two couch covers in case my dog happened to get on them.( I will bring them back with me to Lemon Drop next year.) The kitchen contains everything you might need in a home to create great meals. However I ate out at least 1/2 of my months stay. I had a hard time returning north to the snow.

Pleasant neighborhood, pleasant stay

  • 4 of 5

We've rented many, many cabins and homes over the years and this one is one of our favorites. The home is spacious and the kitchen better equipped than most. We knew about cable and wifi in advance, but were pleased to also find DVR. Pine Island is for those who would like to be away from the traffic and commercial areas. It is quiet and it seems like everyone is out to walk each day. The Saint James City Civic Association is only 1/2 block away and they have activities going on all the time. Many enjoyable day trip in the area, but you do have to look for them. Try it out...just not when we want the Lemon Drop!

Great first time on Pine Island.

  • 5 of 5

The home was exactly as presented; very clean and comfortable. The beds were wonderful! We spent a very pleasant month at Lemon Drop. We were greeted by the owner's representative who showed us around and was very helpful. We watched an eagle's nest from the deck as the young ones exercised every morning and finally fledged just before we had to leave. There were always lots of other birds around and mullet jumping in the canal, even saw a dolphin chasing dinner one day. We would recommend this place to others. The only thing we would like added is a Hot Tub - missed that especially when the neighbors were in theirs. Thanks Barry.

Owner's Response: Thank you Linda and Fred, We should keep in touch. I could very likely want to go fishing up in your neck of the woods. Thank you Fred for all the little things you did while there. We will be seriously looking at putting a pool in while there ourselves this year. Perhaps it could have a spa incorporated. BARRY

An outstanding experience!

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time in this house, known as "Lemondrop," for over a month. It was comfortable, convenient, attractive, cozy, well-equipped~and I loved the big deck on the back. Sitting out there for breakfast or anytime during the day was a real pleasure! The owner was incredibly responsive and pleasant. There were a couple of minor glitches, which he handled rapidly and cheerfully, telling me about all the changes he will soon be making, for 2015. The St. James Civic Center is 1/2 a block away, and there are myriad activities there, from exercise classes to special dinners. I loved the neighborhood; great for walking the dog, with a dock where you can buy fresh fish about two blocks away. As you walk there, you'll see the eagles nesting near-by. The bird watching from the back deck is amazing! All-in-all, I'd say this is a top-rate place, for the money. Thanks, Barry!

Paradise on Paradise Canal!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful stilt home in St. James City, FL. It has a huge upper deck overlooking the canal; peaceful and secluded. Nice residential area, lots of streets for biking riding, long walks and close enough to walk to a few local restaurants. We brought our own boat, so it was nice to be able to moor the boat right in front of the house. It was also a great spot on the water, with only probably 3-4 minute ride down the canal and then out to the open waterway. Close to Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach and Lover's Key. St. James City is a great place to enjoy fishing, boating, watching the pelicans, osprey, eagles and manatees in the canal. Would definitely stay here again!
