|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This unique villa is shaped like an octagon and includes 3700 sq ft of living space on 2 levels. Both levels feature decks that overlook the tranquil, turquoise waters of Chalk Sound.
The lower level has a kitchen, living & dining area, together with 2 bedrooms and a full and half bathroom. The living room includes two couches (one is a sofa-bed), a flat screen TV, DVD player, and xbox. One of the bedrooms has a King bed with french doors that open on to the lower deck and provide magnificent views of the water, The 2nd bedroom can either be set up with a king bed or two twin beds. There is also an side entrance to another 2 piece bath and laundry area beside the pool deck.
The upper level has an great room that spans over 40ft across the back of the villa overlooking Chalk Sound. This impressive room includes two separate sitting areas with 4 couches/loveseats, a bar, and pool table. The bar also includes an ice maker (with purified water) and a cappuccino machine. When the sun goes down and the water views are gone, there is also a large 55' 3D LED TV complete with 3D glasses and DVD player that you can enjoy.
Also included on the upper level are 3 bedrooms. One with a queen bed and an en-suite with a shower, one with a king bed and en-suite with a tub & shower, and a smaller bedroom with two twin beds. There is also a separate 2 piece bath close to the entrance.
The outside of the property offers a Weber BBQ, 2 dining areas and 7 separate sitting areas so that you can have sun or shade at any time of the day (or just get away from the rest of your group - discreetly of course...lol). There is an impressive 42ft long infinity-style pool that is great for doing laps, but also great fun for the family since it is just 4 1/2 feet deep. There are several pool noodles, squirt guns and pool toys are available for your use (and a little machine that blows them up for you!). If the average 75 degree (20C) night time temperatures are too cold for you, there is also a 6-person hot tub available.
The property also features a wonderful, private, sandy cove that is great for younger kids. By the water there is also a dock, and two small kayaks that you can use to explore Chalk Sound.
The villa itself is located about just 10 minutes (5 miles or 8km) from the airport, and 2 miles (3km) from the turn off to Chalk Sound Drive. It is also just 1-2 miles from what I think are the two most beautiful beaches in the world: Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay. At these beaches, on a busy day you might find two dozen people sharing a beautiful sandy beach that spans 1000 feet. The water is crystal clear, and at Taylor Bay, you can usually walk out at least 200 feet before it even begins to feel deep.
Also, just 2 miles from the villa is one of the best restaurants on the island, Las Brisas, but if you want to head towards Grace Bay which is about a 10-15 minute drive, you can find dozens of 4-5 star restaurants that would rival the best restaurants in any major city of the world. Whether you want French, Italian, Thai, Japanese, it is all available to you, but you can just as easily find burgers, pizzas or some local chicken or conch restaurants if you want.
There is a convenience store and gas station located just 2 miles (3km) from the property, but for major grocery shopping there is a 'Quality Supermarket' about 5 miles away, or the main IGA supermarket about 10 miles away. Everything is imported, so prices are quite high - especially if you are looking for a specific brand of cereal, toothpaste or coffee - so bring what you can.
A few additional items available to make your stay more comfortable: (1) Toyota Camry Hybrid available for just $50/day (including insurance), (2) prepaid cell phone - can include 100 min/day to US/UK/Canada for just $20/week, (3) Discounted Golf Passes available with your booking (save up to 40% off regular rates) & both left/right handed set of clubs available at the villa for your use - details on the course available , (4) 2 kayaks available free of charge, (5) 4 bikes also available free of charge
This is a picture of our family with Chalk Sound in the background. We are from Toronto, Canada and our kids are 9, 11, 12.
David McGee purchased this villa in 2013
We immediately fell in love with the beautiful turquoise waters of Chalk Sound and thought this was just the perfect property for us. Built on the rocks sloping down to the water, it is similar in many ways to a cottage back in Canada, but except for one important difference - it doesn't get COLD!!!
This property is truly unique.
First of all, it is built in the shape of an octagon. Not only does that provide better views of Chalk Sound, but that combined with it's concrete construction makes the building virtually hurricane-proof.
Secondly, it has a small private cove/inlet that we thought would be amazing for our friends (and renters) that have small kids.
Finally, we really loved all of the outdoor seating areas. Many of the villas we looked at only had one deck area by the pool with maybe an umbrella you could use to get some shade. This property has SEVEN separate areas that you can sit and either enjoy the sun, the shade, the waves, or the pool depending on your mood. It is truly remarkable from that perspective.
Couldn't ask for more from this beautiful and spacious villa overlooking Chalk Sound. Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the turqouise waters was a great way to start the day. Villa was clean and spacious with a fully equipped kitchen. The private beach was great and enjoyed the kayaks that were available for use. We noticed that a private beach is rare in Chalk Sound when we kayaked around the other properties in the area so it was definitely a bonus. Many thanks to David and his staff for being so accomodating.
I want to truly say thank you from the bottom of my heart. This experience was truly amazing for my family. The house was beautiful looks better than the pictures. We will definitely be back again. All the amenities and location was truly worth the cost. This was a great lifetime experience. Again thank you so much. David and his staff were awesome, couldn't ask for a better host!!
As a group of nine, visiting TCI for a family wedding, we could not have asked for better accommodation. David's home went above and beyond our expectations. The views were beyond beautiful, but we most enjoyed the kayaks and beach toys that were available for our use. Nothing beat the convenience of the location and all of the amenities we had available. Many thanks to David and his team who made sure we were comfortable during our stay !
chalk sound is a stunning place to stay .this villa is not worth the $$$. it is run down... needs a major reno.... we had run out of toilet paper and had to go buy my own.... we had not 4 beach towels for a family of 5 and last and most important to me .....the spa jacuzzi was broken. they tried to come out and fix it but it was done no filtering or heating ....just gross. no cable tv.just movies.
Having a private beach with kayaks, small boats and paddle boards at arm’s reach was amazing. I took the kayak out every morning. Often times I was the only person on lovely Chalk Sound- it was like having a huge national park all to yourself. Remember to account for the water’s current. I highly recommend starting your trip going against the current so that you’ll have an easy time back. Another cool thing about Chalk Sound is the high salt content and warmth of the water both leading to a very high bouncy making it super cool to just float on your back.
The southern area has mangrove trees you can glide through and the little islands are awesome to check out.
Just up from the beach was a private patio I napped at each afternoon- just a touch of bug spray (don't forget to bring some) made it a very comfy/relaxing experience. The pool and hot tub were very nice- I felt so spoiled/lucky floating in the pool while overlooking Chalk Sound. 5 of us got ear infections and the doctor said this is common when swimming in well water pools on the island. Not sure if it could be prevented by better chemical balance maintenance of the pool or not.
There are several levels of decks so if you are with a large group it's easy to find your own space. There were also a lot of beach toys so no need to bring any. There was a child's life vest, but one of the old, cheaper ones- yet it was still fine for our cousin who didn't bring her own. We brought life vests for our children from home and it was totally worth it.
The salt water plays havoc on the wood so make sure to wear flip flops when walking on the decks so you don't get splinters (I walked around barefoot and was fine because I was careful, but other's had problems).
The booze is expensive, but if you buy the local rum (Bambarra) and beer (Turks Head) you’ll pay half the cost and it is soooo good! If you do this with all the items you can you’ll be pleasantly surprised and not pay so much. The local brand of cereal for example was just as good as any of our US name brands.
This was a family reunion so 16 of us stayed comfortably in the house. Some of the rooms got hot, but not bad considering you're in the Caribbean and if you don't want to be hot you should go somewhere else- in other words, it's hot on Provo and all the air conditioning in the world isn't going to change that.
Taylor Bay is an out of the way beach walking distance from the house. It is hard to find- but worth it. The Bay’s home owners
The Chalk Bay location is perfect for those wanting a peaceful location on the quiet side of the island.
The Good: Stunning hillside location, kayaks, water toys, large house, nice kitchen and common areas. Good parking. The local agent listed in the VRBO site has been replaced and the new person who helped us when the car was not at the airport and when the power was turned off by the utilities company. Fresh fish market close by; ask a local how to get there. The owner David was helpful and procured extra kayaks for our group, but did not send the needed information on house entry until after I called him the night before our departure which was stressful.
Not so good: maintenance is overdue. The entire house needs interior painting and updating. Hot tub works intermittently as others have reported and had not been filled in some time. Unheated swimming pool. Average furnishings, small bedrooms. Cleaning staff was at the house at 9am on the day of our departure. It a long, traffic filled drive (allow at least 30 minutes) to tourist areas downtown, restaurants, golf club, snorkeling.
Not acceptable: Rental car was not at the airport when we arrived. Other renters have also reported this. Gas tank was half full. Owner should look into this recurrent problem.
This property is located less than a mile from Taylor Bay beach, and about 2 miles from Las Brisas restaurant and Sapodilla Bay beach. Discounted Golf Passes also available for local course from $110/round.
