Overview

Tahoe City Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom + Loft + 1 Bathrooom

Three Bears Cabin is a quintessential storybook Tahoe cabin designed and built by famed Tahoe architect Burt Anderson (it is rumored that he even lived in this house at one point).

This cozy cabin is perfect for 1 or 2 couples (4 adult maximum) or a family of up to 5 for your summer or winter vacation on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. It is located 3 miles south of Tahoe City in the quiet neighborhood of Pineland, on a well-maintained road that is mostly traveled by local residents (no through traffic). You'll feel comfortable having the kids and dog playing in the yard around the house, knowing the car traffic is at a minimum here.

You'll enjoy a fully-equipped cabin with plenty of off- street parking, a large southeast facing wrap-around deck with outdoor dining and BBQ areas and a 6 person hot tub. Inside, an alarm system, mud room with ski racks and boot & glove dryers, full size washer and dryer, mountain decor and architecture, 39' flat screen TV with High-Def cable, TiVo DVR, Blueray DVD player and Apple TV are all available to make your stay feel like home. There is a second TV+DVD player in the loft, making it the perfect spot for the kids to settle in and watch a movie before bed. Secure 50MB wireless internet access is available for all your electronic devices. Central heating will keep you warm and cozy, and a freestanding gas stove in the living room adds extra warmth and ambiance. A recliner sofa in living room is ideal for settling in and watch the game or a movie. A fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, and all bedding is provided to make your stay simple and relaxing.

The house is located directly across the street from Ward Creek, and the lake itself is located less than 1 mile away. Popular activities include fishing, boating, swimming, paddle boarding, kite boarding, kayaking, canoeing, sun bathing on the beach, etc.

Take a leisurely stroll to three great restaurants: Sunnyside Resort, Firesign, and Spoon. A ski/snowboard rental shop (West Shore Sports), and a mini-mart/deli/liquor store (Sunnyside Market) are all less than 1 mile away from the cabin.

A half-mile walk will take you to Kilner Park, where you can find beach volleyball, lighted tennis courts, swings, sandbox, jungle gym, and the biggest spiral slide in Tahoe! And just across Highway 89, you'll find the beach!

In winter, a shuttle bus conveniently stops directly in front of the house every 30 minutes for pick-up and drop-off at Alpine Meadows' Sherwood lift, which is only 2 miles/5 minute drive up the road. Imagine the convenience of not having to get in the car to get to your ski lift! Cross country skiing, back country skiing, and snowmobiling is accessible right out of the back door. Family-friendly Homewood Ski Resort is only 3.5 miles away and world renowned Squaw Valley is just 20 minutes away.

In summer, the Tahoe Rim Trailhead is conveniently located 1/2 mile away for your mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts. Less than 1 mile away, 15 miles of paved bike path makes for great family fun with commanding lake views. The bike path is also used for roller-blades, jogging, walking or access to the Truckee river for fishing and rafting. For those looking for more of a challenge, try biking up to either Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley ski resorts from the bike path along Hwy 89.

Tahoe City is a short 3 miles drive where you will find all the amenities expected in a small mountain town: lake-side fine dining, shopping, coffee shops, bars, grocery & drug stores, ethnic food restaurants, movie theater, yoga studios & day spas, fitness clubs, banks, golf courses, bike/ski/snowboard rentals, river rafting, fly fishing, boat rentals, etc.

For additional nightlife options, gambling casinos and live concerts can be found in Crystal Bay, located at the California-Nevada boarder, 10 miles (20 minutes drive) north of Tahoe City. If this cabin is not avaiable during the dates of our Tahoe vactation please consider staying at our other property VRBO# 630558. It is also a cute 2BR+1BA Tahoe cabin located in the Timberland neighborhood on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

About John Distefano

If this cabin is not avaiable during the dates of our Tahoe vactation please consider staying at our other property VRBO# 630558. It is also a cute 2BR+1BA Tahoe cabin located in the Timberland neighborhood on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

What makes this cabin unique

There are three excellent dining choices about a mile of the house, all highly visible on Hwy 89, that are all right across the street from each other.

Sunnyside Resort offer high-end lakeside dining, Spoon offers family style dining, Firesign Cafe is a great breakfast and lunch spot, and Sunnyside Market and Deli where you can pick up deli-style sandwiches and basics (i.e. milk, eggs, bread, beer, soda, ice cream, etc.).

There are other options about 3 miles to the south on Hwy 89 around Homewood many, many more about 3 miles to the north in and around Tahoe City.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Three Bears cabin was a perfect choice for our ski trip. Off the bat, the cabin's set up accommodated a late arrival and multiple car parking on site, huge pluses for travelers with late flights into Reno and multiple vehicles not needing to worry about snow plow restrictions on the streets. The cabin is close to all the north Tahoe resorts and accommodates storage of ski gear (mud room has ski racks and plenty of hooks for jackets). The interior was very comfortable for our group of 5, and heating, appliances (which were all modern), hot water all worked perfectly. WiFi was flawless and hot tub set up was a cinch. John checked on us but really everything was set up perfectly in advance and no additional needs were required. House rules and check out requirements were all reasonable.

Enjoyable stay at the Three Bears Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a pleasant stay at the Three Bears Cabin conveniently located near Tahoe City earlier this month. Everything was clean and in order upon our arrival. As an active family that enjoys being outdoors, we especially liked having use of the cabin's mud room to keep our snow gear organized and out of the way. The inside of the cabin was comfortable and well laid-out, and the presence of a high speed internet connection was a plus. We were lucky to have some new snow during our stay, so having the snow-covered wooded area behind the house to hike and play around in added to our enjoyment. John was pleasant to work with and responsive via email to our questions during our stay. A "just right" cabin for this family.

a ripoff

  • 1 of 5

A ripoff. Small, dirty and unbelievably expensive (the $$ rate per night -doubled- due to 4 additional fees that were added to the bill)

most hotel room in the area is -by far- a much better/cheaper option

Owner's Response: Yannick, I wish that you had mention that you were feeling "ripped off" and showed me where the house was dirty when I personally came to the house during your stay. When I asked you how everything was going you told me everything was fine. I would have been happy to take care of your concerns then instead of trying to address them after the fact. For the record, the cabin is professionally cleaned by the biggest and the most reputable and professional cleaning company in the Tahoe basin after every check-out. I have never once had a guest tell me that the house was dirty after 100's of guests have stayed there but I will pass your feedback along to the cleaning company and consult with them. The only "additional" fees or charges added to every reservation is a cleaning fee (to pay for said professional cleaners), State required taxes, and possibly a pet fee if you are bringing a pet. All costs and fees are disclosed, agreed to, and paid for by the renter prior to every reservation confirmation so there should be no surprises or feelings of getting "ripped off" after the fact. If you can actually find a hotel room in the area that offers two bedrooms, almost 1000 square feet of heated living space, a full kitchen & bathroom, mud room, ski boot and glove dryer, indoor ski racks, fireplace, private hot tub, washer and dryer, parking or 3-4 cars, large deck, gas BBQ, etc. that is a "much better/cheaper option" then please disclose that information, instead of making unsubstantiated and misleading claims, and I will refund ALL your money. Ready-Set-Go!

Wonderful winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in this cozy cabin. It's very well located, a short 5-10 min drive from Tahoe City, but also secluded towards the end of the road (best have 4WD in the winter although the snow removal service was great) Another short drive took us to two different XC ski areas (Sugar Pine Point is spectacular - site of 1960 Olympic XC skiing). We're not big into TV, but used both Netflix and DVDs to watch movies.

We were a family of 4 adults - works best with 2 couples - but we managed comfortably with the extra sofabed. Did all our own cooking - even baked scones and a roast chicken for Christmas. The kitchen is one-person small, but there is a counter with chairs for sharing work and conversation.

great, cozy vacation cabin

  • 5 of 5

my family had a great time on vacation at this cabin. It was perfect for a family of 4, plus our dog. it was warm, and had everything we needed. The only minor complaint would be that the hot tub was very chlorinated, which caused skin sensitivity. But this was probably a one time maintenance issue. The location is excellent! Close to many trails, the lake, nice cafes, and town. Its a great place in a great location, and we hope to come back many times.

The perfect quick get away

  • 5 of 5

This home was so clean and easy to stay in! Perfect do my family of four. The kids felt like they had their own suite upstairs. We all loved the hot tub! All beds and couches were wonderful. Simple but darling decor throughout. Felt luxurious without all the fuss! Each bedroom complete with great pillows, fans and sound machines!!! My only concern (I was shocked to find one) was the shower pressure was quite low and there is not bath tub if you need that for smaller children. Obviously you can make do though! Hope to go back - maybe with another couple this time as it seems perfect for that too!

Notes:
Tahoe City is only five miles to the Squaw Valley turn-off, which is home to the 1960 Winter Olympics. Tahoe City also has public beaches, a marina, and a downtown area that is charming and filled with local shops, restaurants, and other commercial services. Tahoe City has many local events and many look forward to the seasonal Farmers’ Market, Free Beach Movies, and Sunday afternoon live music concerts on the beach. In the winter, many consider the SnowFest week of activities one of the best events of the entire year in the Tahoe City area. Tahoe City’s close proximity to Lake Tahoe recreational activities such as boating, hiking, biking (dirt and paved trails), tennis, golf, skiing, shopping, and restaurants makes this a great area for those that enjoy being outdoors, and getting away from it all.
