About Janine Wood

Born and raised in BC, I have lived on Vancouver Island for over 30 years.

Escape to the west coast in 1993 led me to develop myself in many ways as surviving life on the edge means diversification!

It has helped me to become an artist, surfer, gardener, teacher, healer and now a business woman too. Inspiration abounds in this beautiful part of the planet!

I Hope you find your bliss here too.

Janine Wood purchased this house in 2007

Why Janine Wood chose British Columbia

The moment I drove down the driveway, through the gateway of the giant cedars, the sun was shining, and the tide was full, the house was gorgeous and welcoming... :)

What makes this house unique

Great place to reconnect with oneself and loved ones. Enjoy spacious surroundings, both inside and out.

Come to explore or just relax.

Fantastic Rain forest trails and beaches a 10 min walk or drive away.

Enjoy your own home cooked delights, or dine in the many great local restaurants.

Great, but

  • 4 of 5

Loved the homey feel, very welcoming. The view was good, location was perfect. Great for ten people. Didn't like the per head charge. If it's a house for ten the rate should be for ten. The beds were uncomfortable. Would rent again.

Owner's Response: Hello and thank you for your feedback. My base rate, which if for double occupancy, allows for couples or a small family of 4, (for example) to stay without paying the same rate as a group of 10. I think this is fairly common in the industry. I am sorry that you found the beds uncomfortable, though I am glad to see that you would return. I will work on that asap! Kind Regards, Janine

Prized gem, perfect for a family getaway

  • 4 of 5

This is the return visit to this gem of a location, close proximity to all there is to do and see. The isolation of the property is amazing, sitting on your own private bay is a perfect way to start the day with morning coffee. We will definitely return, plan to make it an annual event.

A lovely large home in a private setting with a view of the water.

  • 4 of 5

The upstairs bedrooms were the perfect set up for our 2 families with each family having their own bathroom. The main floor had a large open area for the 10 of us. The owner was attentive to our needs.

We did a lovely hike from the house and often watched eagles and kingfishers.

Excellent all around

  • 5 of 5

This property was just what we were looking for. We were a multifamily group with children. It was private. It was spacious. It was comfortable.

The owner was gracious and allowed for an early check in and late check out. The beds were all reasonably comfortable. Although it was odd that the fridge was in a separate area of the kitchen, it did not burden any of our kitchen needs!

We will definitely be booking this house again for an annual family gathering!

Great home, Great location, Very Roomy, Needs some love

  • 3 of 5

Overall, I was happy with the home. It was large, quiet, secluded, great location, lots of GREAT window and everything we wanted almost.

Mostly minor complaints. The furnace quit while we were there (bad luck for us and wouldn't prevent my staying again). The house is so nice and location so great it seems weird that some things are not up to par. Fridge is not in kitchen (unless you count the bar fridge). The home advertises accommodations for up to 10, but does not have cutlery to accommodate those numbers, though it has more than enough room to hold 10 comfortably. The living room couch is old, lumpy and uncomfortable. Their is NO WIFI (I didn't catch that when I booked), the TV is an archaic tube type with such poor sound we had a hard time understanding what characters were saying when watching movies, bring a book and do not plan on ANY electronic entertainment and you will be fine, or bring your own. Master bedroom is like a large suite, including couch, table and chairs and an amazing view, but the bed is very uncomfortable and left my wife and I both complaining of back aches. I am told the other beds were more comfortable.

Their were other issues but they were mostly small and compared with the value of the size and location I am not unhappy, just not sure this place would be my first choice.

Should add one last comment. The owner Janine was very responsive and seemed very concerned and made sincere efforts to get the furnace fixed ASAP even though she was out of town during our stay. I do appreciate her concern for our welfare that way. Really it is a great home but in need of a little love. Hope this review helps and you enjoy your stay. Again location was great and we all enjoyed our time in Ucluelet.

Owner's Response: Oh dear! Again, I felt terrible about the furnace, but happily the repairman was able to arrive the next day. I actually have additional cutlery available in the storage area, and restocked in the fall, as it seems to wander away through out the year. I will ask my cleaner to pay attention to this detail. Sounds like the master needs a new bed, this one is very firm, though I have added a topper. As for the internet- lack thereof, I do mention this in my welcome note, I know it is a challenge in these electronic dependent times, I have tried to provide access with a "hub" unit, but after asking guests not to stream, they can't seem to resist, and my bills were truly outrageous. Unfortunately there is no cable or fiber optics in this remote location. My apologies for these issues I will do my best to remedy what I can. I do appreciate your feedback.

Though Ucluelet is located off the beaten path of Vancouver Island's rugged west coast, there is much to see and do in this awe inspiring location. You may want to come just to relax and spend quality time with your friends and family from our comfortable waterfront home, but if action and adventure is your goal there is much to discover! Hiking, surfing, kayaking, fishing, golfing to name a few, though I highly recommend taking in the beautiful sights from The Wild Pacific Trail. There are a few different routes to choose from, and are suitable to adventurers of all ages and fitness levels.
