About Jacky Cosnier

We have owned this house for over 20 years and enjoyed many holidays in it. I'm British but I'm a civil servant of French Civil Aviation. My husband is French and retired. We have 2 kids aged 25 and 21 who are both Air Traffic Controllers leaving us their pet rabbit who seems to be immortal! Our main residence is the city centre of Bordeaux but the Dordogne has always felt like my second home as my British parents had a house in nearby Limeuil where we spent a lot of time until we bought our own house. My husband loves gardening, mushrooming, and wine and I'm rather fond of decor and hope to achieve charm into a house or at least I try. I'm also a poor painter and poor pianist and sing when noone is around to experience the pain. The piano is tuned and you won't be disturbing the neighbours no matter how badly or well you play as they're quite a way off.

Why Jacky Cosnier chose Le Buisson-de-Cadouin

The Dordogne is wonderful for its medieval chateaux , rivers for canoeing, and its markets and night markets for food, music and dancing for all generations. This property is wonderfully situated just out of reach enough to enjoy peace but within reach on foot of 2 lovely villages , one with a charming café and small restaurant, Urval. There is 2 larger villages with a supermarkets and all services 5 km away (Siorac& Le Buisson) . Between Urval and Paleyrac, the house is close to Saint Cyprien (great market on Sunday) the castles of Benac and Castelnaud , the Belvedere of Belves , Cadouin with its famous cloisters on another side and Limeuil and the small town of Le Bugue on another . Near enough to Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigueux ( 45 mins)but far enough away to enjoy the village life of those smaller villages with their markets and the night life of their marchés nocturnes (Audrix is delightful) where we dance and enjoy foie gras . Canoeing can be done from the beaches of Limeuil or Siorac or you can float down in front of the castles from just above Roquegageac or nearer - an experience not to be missed which even the youngest can enjoy. There are plenty of affordable restaurants and some less affordable but quite gourmet. Walkers will enjoy the many mapped paths which surround the house. Golfers and horse riders will be served within 5 kilometers. Cave lovers and prehistory are of course just near from Les Eyzies to Lascaux. There's even Shakespeare (usually the lighter plays) in Belves' covered market place and in other nearby towns in early August and there are a number of adventure parks, son et lumières and many classical music rendez-vous (Paunat and elsewhere). At Sarlat there is Commedia del Arte theater festival in July.

What makes this house unique

Everything happens on the leafy terrace in this house and if you go and make a cup of tea in the kitchen you can supervise kids in the pool from the kitchen window. The bedrooms downstairs are nice and cool in very hot weather and 2 enjoy French windows onto the bread oven. My husband is rather proud of the state of the art bathroom on this level. There is another bathroom upstairs with a shower and basin and wardrobe which is often used by the couple sleeping in the bedroom next to the lounge which has priveleged views over the woods behing and is often a good place for spotting wildlife early in the morning. We get deer eating our roses!. Mapped walking paths surround the house and there is very little traffic on the small road which leads into the woods so you don't have to watch young children. There is a working fireplace and wood is provided. We keep balls, shuttlecocks, bows and arrows, croquet set, ping pong balls and rackets and badmington rackets. There is riding nearby and also a golf course just 5 kilometers away. The house is 2 km from the river with a small beach but there are beaches at Siorac, Le Buisson and Limeuil where you can swim easily.

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

This is the most wonderful house set in a beautiful garden. In a peaceful setting with views over the surrounding countryside. Conveniently located for sightseeing. We had a fantastic holiday and hope to stay here again in the future.

A perfect retreat, oozing with charm and character

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, with two teenage girls (14 and 12) had a fabulous week at Le Scourbet in late August. We fell in love with the place the minute we arrived. We live in a quiet rural location in South Wales with no immediate neighbours and on a quiet lane, so we prefer an equally peaceful and relaxing location for holiday. Le Scourbet was perfect for us. On a busy day there might be one car quietly passing every hour or two. The garden is private and not overlooked (unless you count the cows in a neighbouring field). The pool is clean. The house has everything you might need and Francis and Jacky are perfect hosts, charming and very helpful. If aircon and luxury décor are important to you then other places might suit you better, but if you want a quiet retreat, oozing with authenticity, charm and character you won’t be disappointed.

very nice country-house

  • 5 of 5

We really appreciated our holidays in this charming old but well and very tastefully restaured country-house. We stayed there with french friends of us for two weeks and it was enough space for two families (8 persons). It is very nice situated in the countryyside with view over a little valley, it is absolutely calm and you have a really big terrain just for you. The highlights of the house are the beautifull shadowed terrace and the nice pool-area.

Jacky and Francis are very friendly and enganged owners who do everything to make you have a nice stay: a big bowl with fruits, wine and other local specialities attended us at our arrival, the children could use all the toys for the swimming-pool and the garden and when our washing-machine didn't work, Francis arrived as quick as poosible to repair it!

There are lots of lovely little towns, villages and castles to visit nearby, shopping facilities at about 5 km.

Beautiful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had an idyllic week in Le Scourbet, the house is beautifully furnished and has absolutely everything that you could possibly need! We had grandparents a 3 yera old and a dog with us and there was literally something for everyone! The setting is absolutely stunning, we are keen cyclists and toured the area on two wheels which made us appreciate the immediate area. We also had a car and visited some markets - in particular Sarlat whcih we LOVED.

Jacky and Francis were fabulous, they met us on arrival, walked us through the facilities and local area. They do not live locally but are just a phone call away should you need anything, which was a perfect balamce.

I would thorighly recommend the house to all ages, a perfect retreat from your busy lives, waking up to neighbouring cows and bird song, bliss!

Ed, Lorraine, Zac (3yrs) Ruby the dog and Granny and Grandad.

Séjour de rêve

  • 5 of 5
