3 BR, 3 Bath, Basement Bar, Mirrored Jacuzzi, Screened Porch
About Jane Harrison
That's me on my favorite rock just upstream from our river deck. I love to spend hours there in summer, reading, sunning or sipping a refreshing beverage. This is our favorite cabin, where the children frolicked and fished in the river and where we set out for fun and adventure in the mountains. The walls are adorned with trophies from their dad's hunts and river outings. Our memories are warm and anticipations high when our thoughts turn to Cartecay Hideaway.
Jane Harrison purchased this Cabin in 1994
Why Jane Harrison chose Ellijay
There's no better place to enjoy the adventure in the Georgia mountains, small town charm, and solace of the river than this hideaway tucked in by the Cartecay.
What makes this Cabin unique
The pine cabin has the warmth of wood from floor to ceiling and a sunny view of the Cartecay River from the den and screened in porch. A deck right on the river provides an al fresco dining table or a place to cast your line. The large mirrored Jacuzzi tub off the master bedroom offers a unique bathing experience. Hear and see the river run from the balcony off the master bedroom or the screened in porch beside a secondary bedroom downstairs. Head downstairs to a basement bar room reminiscent of a retro hunting lodge or bikers' retreat. Settle in the den on comfy sofas near the massive rock fireplace, sunny office nook, and fully equipped kitchen.

I can not say enough about this place. From being just as it was pictured to the perfect get away for relaxing. Multi-level so you get plenty of advantage points for views. Upstairs for relaxing and enjoying nature or down to the game room to play cards or hang out by the river. The river is literally out the back door. We were able to enjoy a beautiful view while listening to the river flow. Wade in the water and you can fish for trout. We did pretty good and also caught what we came to find out were Horny Head trout. We had never seen those. Grab a coffee or glass of wine and enjoy the deck over the water. Grab a rocking chair and watch the lightning bugs play. The house was very comfortable. 20 minutes to the TN line. The small town was beautiful and had so much to offer. It was a very short trip and we all wanted more time to enjoy it all. Everything you need is provided for making meals and all linens. It was like being transported to a hidden forest with modern amenities. We will be back just as soon as we can.
Great place !
Despite a few things we had a great time.
The cabin house number could be marked better.
The alarm system keeps going off each time we opened the doors, which was frustrating.
The WiFi is very weak and we did lose access but the loss of access was caused from storm. My hotspot did not work from there either.
This is a perfect place to disconnect and relax. I could see myself rent this cabin again.
I do recommend buying a prepaid card for phone. The phone in cabin can only call local.
Again other than the few issues, this cabin is a dream.
I'm glad the guest enjoyed the cabin. A previous guest apparently pressed buttons on the deactivated alarm system, causing it to go off. It has again been deactivated and covered so it will not disturb the peace. The wifi signal is strong, but was disrupted by a storm during this guest's visit. Most guests make cell calls over the wifi, as do I. Most cell phones can enable wifi calling, which works well from the cabin.
Great cabin in a beautiful location. Loved being able to sit on the porch and deck and listen to the river. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Kitchen appliances are slightly dated, but fully functional. Would choose to stay here again in the future.
Comfortable cabin right on the water with lots of room to enjoy the view.
Cabin was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the screen porch and the deck overlooking the river. Would stay here again. Only issue we had was that several light bulbs were blown down stairs and in the bathroom so at night it was a little dark in the cabin.
Relaxing get away
We enjoyed our week at Cartecay Hideaway. The view of the river was great, the cabin had everything we needed, and it was peacefully quiet the entire time.
Location was beautiful!
The cabin was a great escape and just what we were looking for. We enjoyed our time and look forward to returning.
The scenic Cartecay river flows through rural north Georgia east of the charming small town of Ellijay. The Cartecay draws kayakers and canoeists, anglers, and summer time 'tubers' to her mostly calm waters. En route to the cabin, guests often stop in Ellijay's 'Apple Alley' to buy fresh apples, peaches, and other seasonal produce. The Georgia Apple Festival, 2nd and 3rd weekends in October, is one of the southeast's largest craft fairs, attracting thousands of tourists both weekends. Fall tourists also enjoy scenic drives 'leaf looking' in the Georgia mountains. Our cabin is located about 20 minutes from the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain and is close to 3 game management areas where hunters seek deer, turkey, wild hogs and small game in season. Anglers fly fish just outside the door in the Cartecay river or take a scenic 15 minute ride to Noontootla Creek or 25 minute trip to the beautiful Toccoa River. Amicalola Falls State Park, about 20 minutes away, showcases one of the southeast's highest waterfalls in a well-maintained trail system. Numerous hiking and mountain bike trails give the outdoor person both challenging and easy perspectives on the Georgia mountains. Carter's Lake,
Fort Mountain State Park, and Lake Blue Ridge are all about a half-hour away. Unique restaurants, antique and craft shops, and traditional stores for all your vacation needs are just 15 minutes away in Ellijay. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad stops in Blue Ridge, a vibrant mountain town 20 minutes up Ga. 515.
