About Linda Skarin

My husband of 35 years and I enjoy building homes together. This is our first vacation property. Our five children and ten grandchildren have all added insight into making this vacation home extra special. We all enjoy extending hospitality to others and know that you will build many happy memories at our Sunset View Cottage.

Linda Skarin purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Linda Skarin chose Southwest Michigan

After looking for over five years our family selected this property because it had the most beautiful beach of all the properties that we considered. The beach neighborhood is comprised of single family homes and is very quiet in a wooded setting. Likewise, as a custom home builder we wanted to create a special place for families to gather that was beautiful with artisan charm.

What makes this cottage unique

Besides the sandy beach and stunning sunsets over Lake Michigan, this home exudes charm from the moment you drive up to it. The 3 porches invite you to sit and relax with a glass of iced tea while reading a book or chatting with friends and family.

Beautiful getaway spot

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with your home right away. The natural light coming in and the color choices were just beautiful.

We enjoyed using the ping pong table downstairs and walking down to the beach to watch the sunset. Thanks for suggesting Clementine's for dinner. It was delicious. It was such a memorable way to celebrate our friend's engagement. I would highly recommend your place to others. Thanks again!

Wonderful Home!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 of us girls stayed in Jim and Linda's home for a scrapbooking weekend and it was great! The view of the lake across the street was gorgeous and some of us even ventured down to the water for a walk on the beach. Beach access is easy with nice steps. Close to grocery stores. The house was cozy and warm and the accomodations were top notch. Jim and Linda truly take pride in their home and it shows with every detail. Thank you!

Breathtaking Lake Views/Autumn Folliage

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 friends wanted to get away from the city and into nature, after the start of fall, but before the frost crept in. We couldn't get everyone to agree--a lake house, or a wooded cabin? Rustic seclusion or near to town, dining and shopping?

It turns out that this house had something for everyone! The house easily accessible, but feels like it is much more secluded than it is--there are neighboring houses in sight, but we hardly noticed them, given all of the trees (which were in their full autmnal splendor) and the view of the lake. There was a firepit where we could roast marshmallows, just like we did back at summer camp, but the walk to the semiprivate beach was, no joke, less than 5 minutes, and that included going down the stairs down the dunes to the sand.

The house itself was cozy and welcoming. The rooms were very cozy, with a bedroom/bathroom on the first floor for those who aren't really into stairs. We also appreciated that one of the bedrooms was made up of twin beds (vs Queen beds), which was nice since one of our "couples" sharing a room, were actually just roommates, who wouldn't really have wanted to cuddle. :) The sitting room didn't quite have enough seating for all 8 of us on couches together, but we pulled over a few chairs from the table and were able to play card games together all at once with no hassle. There is also a cozy basement/game room which is PERFECT for kids to have to themselves, though in truth, we only ended up down there once, since the main floor was so roomy and cozy...and was closer to the snacks. ;)

Speaking of, the kitchen is beautiful, with a counter that is great for putting out meals buffet-style. They have all the pots and pans and whatnots you might need, if you do choose to cook.

And if at any point you get cabin fever, and you want to get out to the city, Southport is a short 5-10 minute drive, and it is within striking distance of a number of amazing wineries and (even better) the incredible Virtue Cider ciderhouse.

Amazing Home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend at Linda and Jim's home. Located just steps from a picturesque view of lake Michigan, sunsets from the porch are amazing. The semi-private beach is just beyond a series of natural dunes located at the bottom of a staircase. The neighborhood is private and quiet. The house is on a corner lot with a large nicely cared-for yard.

The house was immaculate, modern and nicely decorated. The basement is great for children and the open living room is great for enjoying the company of family and friends.

We can't wait to visit again next year.

Perfect Hosts and Perfect House

  • 5 of 5

Linda and Jim are the perfect hosts and very accommodating. We arrived at this beautiful home, the picture doesn't do it justice, and it was spot less. It had all the amenities we would need for a great stay. A very quiet neighborhood with easy access to the lake. Our family tradition is sitting around the fire pit with a glass of wine. This experience was enhanced by the sound of the lake. Our family gets together once or twice a year and we have rented many houses, this one was the best by far and trouble free. The location is great and allowed us access to the best of the area. I highly recommend this house and we'll all be back again. We enjoyed Clementines in South Haven and many of the are wineries. We had a short drive to Saugatuck, Holland and St Joseph. There are two excellent golf courses 20 min away, namely Hawks Head and the Ravines. Thank you Jim and Linda.
