We have two rental suites (see VRBO listing #507165 for Lanai rental). 'The Lookout' is a beautifully decorated 464 sq ft. suite with a private entry, lanai, living room, kitchenette, and bathroom. Common areas include an outdoor kitchen with small oven/stovetop, laundry facilities, and gas grill. We invested in your comfort with a king sleep number bed. The Lookout has a small lanai with stunning views of the sunset and the garden. Outdoor seating area also available below amongst the plumeria. Setting is a lush acre of flowers, avocados, kona coffee, papayas, bananas, and citrus. We are happy to share our bounty when available. Drive a few minutes to spend the day snorkeling and enjoying the tropical settings of Honaunau or Kealakekua Bay. Private massage in your suite is available with advanced notice (additional charge).
Snorkel equipment is available to borrow. We are owner occupied and happy to advise you regarding activities, restaurants, or other big island sights.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing our slice of paradise.
Mahalo and aloha! Keri and Tina
On site management by Tina and Keri a nurse and veterinarian who moved to the Big Island from Colorado. We fell in love with the island over 18 years ago and finally made moving here a reality in 2012. We love to travel and have taken that knowleged to create accomdations that are comfortable and have all you need to relax and enjoy your stay.
Tina Snapp and Keri Jones purchased this house in 2012
We wanted to live in a slightly rural area, where we could have some land and raise fruits and vegetables. After many years in the big city, we wanted the slower relaxed pace that the Captain Cook provides.
The sunset views from the deck are beautiful. We love to snorkel and the best on the island is a few minutes away.
The property was better than the pictures showed. The view was wonderful and the location was just far enough away from the hustle and bustle for a quiet evening with the sounds of the rain forest. The sounds of chickens in the morning was a great way to wake up too!
The bed was a sleep number and was easy to use and comfortable.
The kitchenette was well stocked for what we needed and the coffee was fabulous! The coffee was grown on property. The fresh fruit and muffins were wonderful as well as the yogurt.
The hosts were extremely helpful with dinner suggestions, giving directions as well as helping with the grill.
I would love to come back and stay at this property again.
We loved staying in the country. Tina and Kerry made us feel so welcome. The home grown fruit and fresh muffins were great. The snorkeling nearby was fantastic - turtles! Lots of dining options nearby or make something in the kitchen. A relaxing place to hang out.
Our flight arrived late, so we didn't get there until about midnight. All was ready for us and there were fresh fruits and coffee beans from their gardens and delicious fresh baked muffins. We were also welcomed to take fruits and gigantic avocados with us. When we come back, we hope to stay here again. Thank you both!
If you are looking for a great location, wonderful hosts, homegrown Kona coffee, daily muffins infused with local fruit, cannonball avocados, and a clean, comfortable and spacious suite, this is the place for you. Easy to find from the Kona airport (26 miles south), right up the hill from: the famous Captain Cook Monument, spinner dolphins and wonderful snorkeling; the historical place of refuge at Kealakelua Bay with its beautiful coconut palms; the Painted Church; and a day trip to South Point, Green Sands Beach, Kula Lai Caverns and Green Sea Turtles. It couldn’t be better.
Wonderful view of the ocean from the "Lookout" unit. Tina graciously brought us home made muffins and fresh fruit daily (and one day granola and yogurt). Kona coffee was also provided. All unexpected, but greatly appreciated. Additonal fresh fruit was available right our door. We enjoyed visiting with Tina and hearing her suggestions about where to go in the area.
The main drawback was the bar-sized sink in the kitchen area which made doing dishes a little tricky (we ate breakfast and dinner in the unit daily). Otherwise, the unit was very comfortable. I would recommend this property to others.
This was our best rental on a 3 week trip to Hawaii. We stayed in the "Lookout". The apartment has a living room/kitchen, bedroom (both with ocean views) and a nice bathroom. The bed is large and extremely comfortable. The view from the Lookout is fantastic - great sunsets. The property is beautiful and colourful with lots of flowers, fruits and amazing geckos. What is best about South Kona Hideaway is the hospitality of the place. We really felt welcome and at home. We have only met Tina and two of her wonderful dogs. Tina was extremely nice, helpful and kind. She recommended us so many great things in the area. Thank you, Tina! Breakfasts with fruits and freshly baked goodies were a delight. We had an unforgettable stay! We wished we could stay longer, like forever :)
Easy to find, located between Kealakekua bay and Honaunau (Place of Refuge), two of the best snorkeling spots on the island. We are only 10-15 minutes from groceries and restaurants, and 30 minutes from shopping and tourist attractions of Kona.
