About Tracy Roy

We are native Montanans with a love for warm weather. We have vacationed on the Big Island for many years because of the friendly people and laid back lifestyle. We enjoy a competitive round of golf, time on the beach, fishing, and of course dinner and drinks on the lanai watching the sunset. When we started the where to spend our retirement years conversation the choice seemed obvious. Even though we have a few years to go before retirement we decided to purchase our piece of paradise now.

Tracy Roy purchased this condo in 2013

Why Tracy Roy chose Kona Coast

We first visited the Islands in 1982 and knew it was a place we would visit again. With many more enjoyable vacations to the Big Island we decided to make this a part of our retirement plan.

After much consideration we chose Kona Surf and Racquet Club. The beautiful mature landscaping is so well maintained and the comfortable, at ease feeling we felt upon entering led us to believe this was the place for us. After nine long months we chose our condo and begin updating. We sincerely hope you find it to be as welcoming and comfortable as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your lovely condo is very nicely decorated and we enjoyed using all of the new appliances, fans and furniture! We also appreciated all of the beach equipment available for our use.

What we really enjoyed the most was the large wrap around lanai with sun and shade available most of the day. We ate nearly all of our meals out there while enjoying the quiet and the view.

The other thing we really enjoyed was being able to take a drink to the shoreline access and sit on the wall (or take beach chairs) to join others in watching the sunset. We had some exceptionally high surf during our stay which made the beach visits even more exciting with the huge breaking waves as they crashed onto the bank.

Thank you so very much - we will definitely consider staying here again the next time we return to the Big Island.

P.S. I made lots of good dinners on the grill on the grounds!

Fully loaded condo.

My family of five (kids 12-14-16) stayed at this condo mid-August 2016. My first impression was that it was even nicer and bigger than on the pictures. My boys stayed in the back room and my daughter on the pull out couch. Great linens! We made good use of most of the amenities in the condo (unfortunately not the outside ones: tennis court (too hot and lazy), nor the pool: it was not open). Prior and during our trip, the owners were very gracious and easy to reach. We spoke on the phone on more than one occasion. We were so thankful to find snorkel gear and boogie boards available to us, as this part of the island boasts many beautiful beaches. Many past guests leave their leftovers in the fridge so I would recommend checking before grocery shoping :). One thing to consider is the heat. This part of the island is not as breezy as others so make sure to plan outings for early morning. The condo gets very hot during the day. No hesitation in recommending this one!

Wonderful Kona Stay

  • 5 of 5

The property was on the third (top) floor in the corner providing a great view and wrap around deck facing the ancient rock grounds of historical significance, the tennis courts, and of course views of the ocean. The place has two full bathrooms and washer/dryer! The pool was under construction in the complex so we could not use that, but we walked to the beach for snorkeling, used the BBQ's several nights, and even got some tennis in for fun. The location was great. There is a beach for snorkeling at the complex but two empty lots up (close) is a public beach with excellent snorkeling, and local turtles that seem to be there everyday. Our family of 4 had plenty of room, and used the kitchen every day. There was never an issue with parking, and we drove around the island over two weeks visiting volcanoes, many snorkeling locations, Hilo, waterfalls, and even did a night scuba dive with Manta Rays swimming right over our heads with Kona Diving. There is a Costco just outside the Kona airport to load up for extended stay goodies, and there is a mall with movie theater, Longs Drugs and local full size grocery story just up the street from the condo. We really loved our stay and it worked out very well for our whole family. Just thinking about grabbing a Kona Beer and sitting on the deck watching geckos in the palm trees and the ocean past the ancient Hawaiian royal home site... we need to come back!

A Great Place to Stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week at this property as we toured around and saw the sights of the island. It is very conveniently located, only a few minutes away from the main highway and just down the road from a shopping plaza.

The unit was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped. There were plenty of beach / water toys in the suite that you can take with you. There is a large wrap-around lanai with a table, chairs, recliners, and small sofa. We'd have our breakfasts and suppers out there. You can hear the ocean and there is a small view of the ocean looking westward, and a very nice view of the stars in the evening.

The unit was comfortable for four adults as it had two full bathrooms. There was ensuite laundry as well, but we didn't need it.

There is a pool, tennis courts, and barbeque area on the property, and the property was well maintained. We always felt safe in the unit and walking around on the property.

My only wish (and hence 4 stars vs 5) is that the unit had air conditioning. But there were enough fans in the suite for us to make do with the old kind of 'air conditioning'.

We would definitely stay at this property again.

Condo was very comfortable and nice.

  • 4 of 5

We booked our stay from the pictures shown on the web site. The condo was true to the pictures. The condo was very comfortable and had everything that was listed. The weather was exceptionally hot which made the condo hot but that is no fault of the condo owners. I would return and rent this condo again but just when the weather was not so humid.

Awesome Condo in Kona!

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent condo in Kona that is conveniently located to restaurants, a grocery store, movie theatre, etc. It is very nicely furnished and we were completely satisfied with it. The swimming pool was great, as was the access to beaches and downtown Kona (very accessible). The kitchen was expertly furnished and the appliances were 1st class. Highly recommended VRBO!

Tastefully renovated; some things to consider

  • 4 of 5

The condo was terrific with lots of room and a wraparound lanai (wraparound outside deck for those not using Hawaii lingo). With your own kitchen, two bathrooms, laundry, sports equipment and towels, it is quite convenient if you want to just show up, snorkel, and not drag towels and equipment along with you on your trip. It is completely renovated and being on the third floor with a view over top/through the trees towards the ocean, it is pleasant to sit outside and watch sunsets.

There are some things to consider: I would modify the "two bedroom" characterization. One of the bedrooms, more of a den actually, is separated from the living room with sliding paper doors (think Japanese paper screens). It's a great look and it means you can open up the space and get airflow through. Just be aware that if someone wants to watch TV in the main room and you want to sleep, you'll need earplugs. Light might also be a problem as the "paper" look means a glow will come from the living room given there is no solid wall.

Noise in the morning might be a problem for some. The unit is in one of the back buildings so nearer to the street. But again, earplugs can help here.

Keep in mind when you book a condo, that unlike a hotel, cancellation policies are more strict.

But the owners were helpful; they provided a thoughtful guest arrival package with a few treats, some sunscreen etc. The complex is well-cared for and has tennis courts, a pool, BBQs, and there is a secret beach just to the north of the complex where you can hang out. There is also a snorkeling beach which is a five minute walk away (don't drive!) and there is also some surfing there as well--watch for the rocks and coral!. There is also a grocery store and mall up the hill, also about a five-minute walk.

The Big Island probably has some of the most consistently drier and warm weather compared to other Hawaiian islands. That is especially true of this part of the island which has far less rain on average than further north. Keep in mind it is the big island, and it is "new" -which means much of the oceanfront is often that hard, cutting coral or lava or rock; sandy beaches really are more north on this island and not as plentiful as say, on Oahua. This complex is not near any quaint towns--this area has more of a suburban feel. But there are some neat towns/areas about a 15 minute drive north or to the east and up highway 11. Overall, great place to relax.
