The ideal setting, Dos Tusas is a grand and gorgeous 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home with majestic views of the mountains and the wide open New Mexican Mesa.
Travel just 4 serene miles from the historic Taos plaza and find yourself at our elegant 3500 square foot, 5 acre property. Let yourself in and relax in the elegant living room. Choose from one of the 3 over-sized chairs or the warm caramel-colored leather sofa. Make it even more cozy by lighting a fire in the Carmen Velarde fireplace or turning on some tunes with the Life Style Music System. The living room boasts 15 foot high ceilings with traditional vigas and latillas.
The kitchen with its many cabinets and tons of counter space is a cook's dream come true. It is well-stocked with many small appliances, a dishwasher, a microwave, an electric range, oven as well as a large refrigerator. Sit and snack at the large kitchen island or enjoy a meal, a beverage or time with your book in the dainty breakfast nook just off the kitchen.
The large dining room with its graceful table, seats a party of 10 comfortably, but more can squeeze in easily along the lengthy cushioned bench.
The living room, dining room and kitchen all have gigantic windows with sweeping views of the surrounding fields and mountains.
The 3 main bedrooms are privately located up 6 Saltillo-tiled stairs and share a long hallway.
The sumptuous master bedroom has its own large Mexican-tiled private bathroom with a deep bathtub or if you prefer, an upright shower. Enjoy the master's intimate view of the rock and flower garden. Sleep so well on the king bed which comes made up with fine cotton linens and a down comforter. Afghan treasure chests, a vibophone, African artwork, antique lamps and an Asian-inspired armoire appoint this gorgeous room.
In Queen Room #1, the bed is also clad in cotton linens and a down comforter and the window frames a private view of the back of the house's peaceful garden.
In Queen Room #2, you will find original Taos artwork, an Indian relief, an Afghan hope chest and a darling Asian-inspired tiny chair.
The Queen Rooms share a bathroom which is conveniently located in the hallway between them. This charming bathroom with its large bathtub, Mexican tiles and traditional vigas, is easy to share.
Down the 6 stairs from the 3 main bedrooms is the fun and functional kid's room with two twin beds, a kid-sized table and chairs, plenty of puzzles and games, art supplies, and a TV with satellite.
The crowning jewel of Dos Tusas is the library. With another Carmen Velarde fireplace, thousands of books, a sleeper sofa, a luxurious leather couch, a tapestry-covered reading chair, satellite TV, and a DVD player; the library is everyone's favorite room. Although each room is perfect and comfortable in its own way, the library is exceptionally welcoming and nurturing: a perfect quiet retreat.
When the weather calls you outside, enjoy the song of the wind through the aspen trees on our flagstone patio where there is a table to fit a comfortable 6 or a cozy 9 person dinner. Located in the Los Cordovas section of Taos, Dos Tusas has been tastefully landscaped with poplar trees, lush green grass, latilla fencing and local flowers.
Dos Tusas also comes with a two car garage, a washer and dryer and plenty of closet space. We use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
A ski party's destination, Dos Tusas is a convenient drive up Blueberry Hill Road to Highway 150, only 20 miles to the Ski Valley. A dreamy drive down highway 240 will get you to the center of town in less than 10 minutes; or take 240 the opposite way, to the south side of town, and you're on you're way to Santa Fe.
What truly makes Dos Tusas unique is that it is so large and also so cozy. The antique furnishings, original artwork and incredible views of the beauty of Northern New Mexico make it a destination unto itself. Please enjoy the grand escape that Dos Tusas is, all by yourself or with your family and friends! Often we can be flexible regarding length of stay and rate so, please send us an inquiry; we invite you to come and stay!
I am originally from the eastern flat lands of the Netherlands, or as I like to call it, 'the Iowa of Holland.' Although I love traveling and big cities; I am small town spirit whose heart resonates with the enchanting New Mexican nature. I have two amazing daughters, love playing the piano, and am happiest when I'm doing math. With gratitude and gracias, enjoy your Taos Adventure at Dos Tusas.
With room to roam and unbeatable views, Dos Tusas was the only option for us and will be in the future when staying in Taos. Just enough outside of town to have perfectly still and quiet nights, but still an easy drive to town for breakfast. All that could be heard when waking in the morning were coyotes, chickens, and maybe a few cows in the distance. It was exactly the calm get-away we were looking for!!
We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals & this one was by far our favorite! The home itself is absolutely gorgeous & we felt right at home. The library was my favorite & my kids loved playing in the huge & beautiful yard! The location to town was perfect as well. The views from the home were breathtaking! We will definitely be back!
Dos Tusas offers absolute beauty and relaxation. The home is very clean, beautifully furnished with luxurious furniture and art but is not stuffy. It is comfortable enough for adults and children alike to enjoy. The views from the large, well-stocked kitchen, dining room and living room are breathtaking. The library is so welcoming and filled with every type of book, it makes you wish for a rainy day to just sit by the fire and cocoon! Saskia provided beautiful details like fresh flowers, coffee and teas. Everything in the home makes you feel welcome. Being able to leave the car in a closed garage was a definite plus. The location is far enough away from Taos for privacy, but is only minutes away from the plaza, the visitors center and other sights. The yard is nicely landscaped with a large patio and grill area. We enjoyed watching the prairie dogs play in the adjacent lot. We will definitely recommend Dos Tusas to our friends and look forward to staying there again with our family.
My family came into town for my wedding which we held at another home down the street. My family felt so comfortable at this house and it worked great for all of them. The house is well taken of, beautifully decorated and it felt very comfortable. The views out of the huge windows are breathtaking and one of a kind. The house is located in a great and quiet area and yet is still close enough to town that it makes it easy to get to most places.
Loved the home owner and she was great to work with and made the trip very easy.
We spent the month of July in this beautiful and comfortable home. It was peaceful as it is located "out of town", yet close to Taos and all it has to offer. Also other towns and points of interest were easily accessible. The home offers so many great places to sit and enjoy the views, both inside and out. Saskia, the owner, was very accommodating and friendly and the house was well provisioned. A wonderful vacation choice.
My wife and I will look up Saskia's wonderful house when we visit the Taos area. We're still marvelling at how peaceful her house is. Close to town, Taos Ski Valley, the gorge, Ojo Caliente, very centrally located without the summer or winter touristas out your front door.
Thanks again Saskia! We're jealous of your good fortune. Lol. All the very best to you and yours! Bob & Sandy / Katy, TX
