AspenHaus 'Wanderer' is located in the Estes Park community of Aspen Brook with shared access to the Big Thompson River. From our cozy mountain home it's just a short walk into the Rocky Mountain National Park, 1/2 mile to the YMCA of the Rockies, 2 miles to the Beaver Meadows entrance of RMNP and 3.5 miles to the town center. Or simply leave your car at our home and take the FREE Estes Park Summer shuttle from a stop located less than 1/4 mile from AspenHaus Wanderer!!
Our 1,075 sq ft home has a main level vaulted great room which is an ideal gathering space...enjoy the ambiance of the gas log Colorado moss rock fireplace situated in a warm and inviting living room setting complete with an adjoining fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops and dining room area. Picture windows all around...no artwork needed on these walls!
Step out on the deck to enjoy the sounds of the Big Thompson River, just a stone's throw-away; and sneak a peek of it through the pine trees along with the Continental Divide's Notchtop Mountain... you can take it all in while having your morning coffee, an evening glass of wine or cooking dinner on the grill. And while you are there be sure to say “hey” to our frequent visitors including elk, mule deer and wild turkeys!
The main floor bedroom has a king-sized bed with an adjoining full bath. Also on the main floor and adjacent to the kitchen is a laundry with full washer and dryer.
The second level of AspenHaus Wanderer has two bedrooms (a king bed in one and a combination queen/twin bunk in the other); sharing a full bathroom located off the loft hallway.
As our guest you will enjoy access to shared common fishing, picnic and playground areas along the Big Thompson river... all just a short walk from our cabin.
While you are at it you can take a short woodsy walk along the Big Thompson River and emerge to expansive views of Moraine Park. Visit the museum, catch the shuttle to other RMNP destinations or continue your hike on to Cub Lake where you will have extraordinary opportunities to view herds of elk along the way.
Need we go on... our family thinks that AspenHaus Wanderer is perfect in every way... not just another vacation rental but our perfect mountain home!
Of Note: AspenHaus Wanderer is down the road from AspenHaus Lodge (owned by our friends Mark and Sue Werder who will be facilitating your stay for us). We are all committed to providing you with the same ultimate Rocky Mountain experience you have come to know from AspenHaus!

We are life-long flat-landers (central Indiana) that discovered and fell in love with the Rocky Mountains well over 40 years ago. Our two daughters grew up hiking the trails in Rocky Mountain National Park on family vacations and we are delighted to see our 5 grandchildren now having that same experience with their parents. We are avid hikers (Wanderer!) and we enjoy the Park’s trails in boots or snow shoes. Many of our hikes begin right from the Wanderer’s doorstep and continue deep into the Park from trailheads less than ¼ mile away.
Owner purchased this House in 1993
Why Owner chose Aspen Brook
We bought the cabin over 20 years ago because of the location. As they say “location – location – location”. RMNP is one of our country’s great hiking parks and from the cabin’s front deck you have the Big Thompson River, the YMCA of the Rockies, the National Park trails and the Dunraven Inn all within a short walk...with the Beaver Meadows entrance to the RMNP, the village center of Estes Park and some of our favorite restaurants all within a short drive. We knew immediately that AspenHaus 'Wanderer' was the one for our family!
What makes this House unique
While it’s a beautiful cabin that’s been entirely updated within the past couple of years the most significant benefit in our view is that you can walk directly into the RMNP or access the shuttle bus by foot to avoid summer traffic and delays! Come on up…park your car…and hit the trail. Or grab a good book and settle in on the deck to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Rocky Mountains.

Great place to stay! Awesome views, loved the sounds of the river. Located close to all activities!
This is a wonderful place to bring the family. Loved all of the wildlife we saw from the house. Very peaceful sounds with the river so close the the house. Didn’t see any bears but was waiting to see some! Definitely recommend to everyone!
Thank you for your 5 star review! We agree that the location is really great. Sorry that you did not see this year's Town nuisance black bear and her babies, which is always a treat...in the distance from the safety of the house!! Mark and Sue, on behalf of Owners
Perfect getaway in a good location.
We visited for a week in mid-September. The weather was perfect. Spent a lot of time on the deck, relaxing to the sound of the stream across the street. While out there we saw a pack of turkeys wander by, along with a small group of elk. (No bears, but I'm sure they were around).
On our final day we took the trail behind the Dunnraven Inn into the park. It was a great way to avoid the crowds and wrap up a week of hiking.
The house was perfect. It was well-stocked for what we needed. Beds were clean, showers had good water pressure, and the wifi was adequate.
The cleaning girls arrived right as we were starting to the car to drive to the airport. The little community of houses seems to be well-managed. It was very peaceful, and a nice oasis away from the tourism of downtown Estes Park.
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell others about your stay at AspenHaus Wanderer!! We love the location which is one of the best (our opinion!) because we can hike right into the RMNP, yet we are very close to our favorite restaurants. AspenHaus has the best of both worlds!! Mark and Sue, on behalf of Owners
This was a great place to stay in a perfect location! Sue is wonderful to work with and always available, she wants you to have a great time! Fishing in the Thompson river is just a few yards away! There was a nice playground area for the kids to play with picnic tables that we used for lunch. Close drive to town and Sue gives lots of ideas for restaurants, hikes, quick day trips and anything else you can think of! Exceptionally clean cabin, we would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful setting by the river
This is a great (CLEAN) cabin in a wonderful setting! Plenty of room for the seven of us! My husband and son enjoyed lots of fishing in the river below our cabin and my younger two enjoyed the playground equipment a quick walk down the road in the development. Sue is wonderful to work with and gives lots of great ideas on things to do, places to eat, and places to shop. They are always available and very easy to work with!
Thanks so much for taking the time to review AspenHaus Wanderer; and especially the CLEAN part!! Our housekeepers (the other Sue and Crew) work very hard and will appreciate that you noticed!! We enjoyed meeting you and your mom and will look forward to a return visit!! Mark and Sue, on behalf of Owners
Excellent Place to Stay!!
This is a beautiful property and an excellent place to stay. It was made even better by the couple who manages it for the owner. By the time we checked in I felt like we were friends, Sue had texted and sent me so much useful information that I used it to plan my trip. Every recommendation they gave was terrific. We were very busy and our trip turned very stressful because my husband got very sick. Again Mark and Sue were very helpful and caring. Our trip turned out to be terrific and the cabin offered everything it said it did!! It was our home base and the perfect place to relax and chill after very busy days. Hated to leave and would gladly go back!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for AspenHaus Wanderer! We love Estes Park and love sharing the information that we have gathered over the years with our guests. We were sorry that your husband got sick (ugh!) and relieved that everyting turned out OK (yay!). We hope that you and your family return someday, we will gladly have you back!! Mark and Sue, on behalf of Owners
Pick this one!!!
It is located in a perfect spot for day trips to RMNP and trips to Estes Park. The house is clean, well maintained and the people that care for it are friendly. They respond to texts and emails quickly. Staying at the house was like living in a zoo, the river was close for fishing and trails close for evening walks. You will not be disappointed with this choice!
Haha, we say that sometimes too.. that we think that we live in a zoo!! We see wild turkey, coyote, elk and deer regularly. We see bear and bobcat occasionally. One of our guests sent us a picture of a bull moose (very rare!), right in front to the house!! ...Yet we are a just few minutes from great restaurants and a few miles from Town. Thanks so much for your 5 star review!! Mark and Sue, on behalf of Owners
The Rocky Mountain National Park Beaver Meadows entrance is within 2 miles of AspenHaus Cabin. Walk into the RMNP from trailheads which are 1/4 mile away.
