E Komo mai, or Welcome to Honu Ocean Paradise!
Tucked away in beautiful, sunny Kapoho on the Big Island's eastern side, this newer 3 bedroom oceanfront home is the perfect destination for an island getaway. Located in a private, gated community, our home opens its doors to a peaceful setting adjacent to the ocean with a lanai and outdoor gazebo. Come see the Honu (Hawaiian for turtle) rest and swim in our private rock fish pond.
Spend your days snorkeling in geothermally heated waters only footsteps from this charming and happy home, visit nearby island favorites such as the Volcano National Park, Lava Tree State Park and Ahalanui Park or explore the the Big Island further with day trips to Kona or Waipio Valley.
Come and enjoy the natural beauty of Hawaii!
Our property was passed down by my parents who always dreamed of having an ocean front home where our family could gather and special memories would be created.
Several years ago, we decided to build a new, open plan home (completed in 2013) on the property and this is the result. It's been fun decorating our home with a few pieces of furniture that have been passed down from one generation to the next.
Enjoy our home and the tranquility of Kapoho!
Dale purchased this house in 1983
If you are looking for a quiet, oceanfront home to relax, this is it! Create your special memories by coming to our home and enjoying what the Big Island has to offer.
This was our first VRBO experience and it was fantastic. We stayed in the home August 7 - August 13th. It was also our first trip to The Big Island. The house is beautiful, clean, well maintained and very well appointed. It had everything that we needed tucked away in lush surroundings and a beautiful cove (Note; this is not a touristy area like Kona or Wailoloa). It was the perfect size for our family of four, which includes a 9 year old and a 15 year old. The kids loved snorkeling just outside the back door and I loved my morning coffee on the back deck. We also spent many evenings grilling outside and playing cards listening to the birds and frogs. There are even a few resident turtles in the cove that like to greet you when you are snorkeling, which we all loved. You can even see them early in the morning popping their heads out of the water from the kitchen window. The home is also very near the Kopaho Tide Pools, which we visited a few times, Lava Trees Park and the quaint town of Pahoa, where there is a market and a few restaurants. The owner, Dale, provided fantastic service and responded very fast to emails; from the booking request through the day we left. We have posted many pictures on our Facebook pages and have had many of our friends inquire about the property. When we come back to The Big Island, we will absolutely inquire about renting this home again.
My two children and I had a marvelous time in your home!
Swimming with turtles and beautiful fishes!
Your home was so clean and well equipped.... we really
enjoyed it and we snorkled in different ponds and hiked
in the night to look at the lava stream !
Mahalo and Aloha !

We were visiting Hawaii to celebrate our son's high school graduation and our entire family voted this the BEST vacation ever! Amazing property, we highly recommend it! Dale and Suzanne were both very helpful and friendly, they went above and beyond our expectations to accommodate us. The house was very clean, organized, and had many unexpected extras. There were plenty of towels and even beach towels. The garage had snorkeling gear, boogie boards, blow up floats, swimming noodles, sand toys, and even a small beach umbrella. We were traveling with 4 kids so the washer and dryer with laundry detergent on hand was greatly appreciated too! The house is located in a gated community that was very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We LOVED being able to snorkel right in the backyard, we saw tons of different fish. eels, and the turtles visited us everyday. We were able to visit the Volcano National Park (cost is $20 per car & you can visit as many times as you want for 7 days). We drove down the Chain of Craters Rd and were able to stop to see craters, lava, flows, Thurston Lava Tube, and the amazing Holei Sea Arch. We stayed in the park until dark and were able to see the active volcano lava glowing from the Jagger Museum. We were also able to visit the Panaluu Black Sand Beach and the Papakolea Green Sand Beach. The green sand beach was difficult to get to (3 mile hike each way) but well worth it, it was a breathtaking!
What an incredible find! Spent five nights there with my wife and three kids ages 17,16,12....plenty of space. Such an amazing locale it was hard to leave and see the local sights. House is great. Simple layout with everything you need. Elevated gazebo is the best. Breakfast lunch and dinner shared with gold dust geckos everyday. Stock up on supplies in Hilo. Great Safeway near the airport on the way. There is no dining nearby and that's not what this area is for anyways. Snorkel gear was all there. Morning is best at low tide with warm water on top and cooler below. Turtles eels tons of fish.....private aquarium. Champagne Ponds is just a short walk down the street through an access path. Gated community makes life very quiet and peaceful. Always felt very safe in this remote part of Puna. My wife and I will definitely return with friends to show them this wonderful spot Dale has created. I've rented many VRBOs in U.S. and abroad. The entire transaction with Dale was smooth and easy.
Dale was great to work with.
Simple suggestions...1.Floor mats by the back door and kitchen sink. 2. Couple more lounge chairs for the gazebo
From the very beginning, Dale was very helpful in making sure we felt welcomed! Suzanne was there to greet us and even checked in with us before we left to make sure everything was ok.
The place was truly amazing. The entire home and property was immaculate, and so very well maintained. It was just my husband and I, but the place is definitely large enough to easily and very comfortably host 6 people. We were supplied with everything we needed and more, from an ample supply of towels (bath and beach), beach gear, shampoos, soap, comfortable beds, lovely well-supplied kitchen, washer/dryer, covered garage. We swam/snorkeled twice a day in the private awesome warm water, every morning before heading out on our Big Island adventures, then later in the afternoon when we returned back. We were able to see a couple turtles, and many different and beautiful fish. Because I am not such a great swimmer, I must have calm conditions, and this was perfect for someone like me.
The property is located a short drive from a market where you can pick up most anything you may need to prepare in the home's large kitchen and then be able to dine outside in the covered gazebo directly overlooking the water. We often picked up some poke and fresh organic island greens to make a refreshing salad. Hilo, Volcano, the zoo, and other fun sites are just a short & scenic drive from the home. On our various outings, we ate at Cafe Pesto in Hilo (food and service are great!) and had the Crab Quesadilla (yum!) and Blue Caesar Salad (with extra Gorgonzola…mmmm delicious!). We also dined at Kaleo's in Pahoa where the burgers were great, Cafe 100 in Hilo for the tasty Loco Moco, Ka'aloa's Super J's in Captain Cook area for AMAZING Lau Lau, The Landing at Honokaa for a nice cold beer and pizza, and Ken's (with a HUGE menu) for yummy big breakfasts.
I would highly recommend Dale's home to my friends, family and anyone looking for a great place to stay. If you enjoy a very clean, comfortable, private/quiet/safe and amazing place with most everything you need, then this would be it! Thank you so much Dale for allowing us to stay and for sharing your slice of paradise with us on the Big Island!
ALOHA! This home was perfect for our quiet getaway. Or what we thought would be quiet. Originally our vacation was for just my husband and I. Well plans changed, and we ended up bringing a daughter and my niece. Then my eldest daughter happened to join us last minute. But never fear, this home had plenty of space for us all. While it would've been nice and serene to have a romantic getaway here for two, our vacation was still spectacular with 3 kids in tow! The 3 bedroom house was clean and perfect for our family of 5. The kitchen had everything we needed from pots and pans to even a rice cooker, (which came in handy) when pairing with poke. The closet was stocked with anything we may need (i.e. aloe, sun block, citronella candles, small ice chest for a day trip etc.) The garage even housed some snorkel gear (even though we brought our own) and a few floaties. We ended up adding to the plethora of extras, leaving 2 boogie boards and a beach umbrella as well. This ocean front property is pretty far from amenities, so don't expect a hopping night life or lots of things to do nearby. This home is a retreat from daily life. A place to unplug and take in the beauty around you. The backyard is gorgeous!! We spent days outside sitting in the lanai and swimming in the private pond and in the ocean. Fish galore everywhere and if you're lucky you'll catch a turtle or two in the early morning or evening. The snorkeling is the best we've ever done and the water is warm which makes the snorkeling so enjoyable. I recommend hopping in first thing in the morning with low tide. The water was clear and we saw turtles then.
We did do some day trips to Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, Carlsmith Beach, and Volcano National Park to name a few. But everything is quite a long drive away (45 minutes to a couple hours)
Dale the owner was wonderful to deal with and very helpful by email with any of our needs while preparing for the trip. While, Suzanne the caretaker, was nearby if we needed anything during our stay.
Whether traveling as a family or as a couple this house is the perfect getaway. I know my family looks forward to visiting Kapoho and this property again in the future. Mahalo!!
For a day trip, head to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. See the explosive lava eruptions captured on film at the Kilauea Visitors Center then drive on down the chain of craters road to see the lava flowing. For the adventurous, drive down on Hwy130, park then hike for 5 miles to see the active lava flowing.
