Keri Campbell purchased this cottage in 2012
Our Plumeria Hale is one block from the ocean in a local neighborhood where ohana and friends have been for many years. The house is a cute and cozy Hawaiian plantation style and invites relaxation! Bright and cheerful interiors for a happy feel.
Location location location!!! Love that it is so close to the ocean. Can feel and smell the ocean breeze
We stayed at this house during our wedding/honeymoon 2 years ago. When we were planning our trip back to Big Island, I asked my husband where he wanted to stay, and he said "that house was perfect for us, why stay anywhere else?". He was right of course.
It's a perfect location, just minutes from "downtown" Kailua-Kona. Very comfortable, well ventilated, charmingly decorated, and all the amenities...Including 2 bathrooms and a washer/dryer!
Owner is super to deal with, and you guessed it - we will totally be back!
This place was perfect. My three friends and I really enjoyed our stay here. The owner was very helpful when you asked for assistance. She provides more than the basics or more than what typical hotels would provide. I felt as though I was at home. I also really enjoyed how comfortable the beds were! She makes the cottage so comfortable, you are more than tempted to stay in for a day and relax. She will provide tips on activities if requested and is very generous with her fridge and pantry items. Accounting for the fact that this was our first experience in Kona, we were all expecting to find flat, sandy Beaches in close proximity to the cottage however that was not the case, beaches in Kona are generally rocky. So if you want to find yourself in a sandy beach to sun bathe or lounge around, you will have to drive there (about 15-20min drive) as walking on a pretty hot day might not be so pleasant. Overall, the cottage is thoroughly clean and well stocked. We will definitely stay in this place next time we're in Kona!
Great place to stay. The house was clean, comfortable, and stocked with plenty of kitchen supplies, bath towels, and beach equipment. It's a very short walk to some nice public beaches. There's no AC, but plenty of ceiling fans to keep the place comfortable. The only negative was that the neighbors were close by and a little bit loud at times.
This little cottage is super-clean and super-comfy; great location, loved the sea turtles nearby, great public parks nearby, owner has thought of every last detail to make sure your stay is enjoyable.
My 13-year-old granddaughter and I stayed in this wonderful little house for almost two weeks at the end of April, and we loved it. The house was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and well stocked with kitchen and beach supplies. It looks better in reality than the pictures on VRBO indicate. We each had our own bedroom and our own full bathroom. The house is situated in a regular Hawaiian neighborhood approximately two blocks from the ocean. It is close to stores and beaches, and Kona is delightful. Like most Hawaiian homes, there is no a/c, but with huge screen windows and ceiling fans in every room, it was lovely and cool. Of course, that means it is not sound proof, but we did not mind. We really enjoyed life in the neighborhood. Two other people live on the property. We saw one of them only twice and never saw the second. We enjoyed the yard with the giant mango tree and had breakfast on the lanai daily. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. If I have any suggestion, it would be to get a comfortable chair. The low sectional couch is not comfortable for older people.
Thank you Keri for sharing your home with us. I much preferred it to staying in a condo or resort.
My fiance and I arrived on Sunday, and left a little over a week later as husband and wife. I've been to the Big Island every other year for almost 15 years, and typically stay with a friend on Hilo side. Planning for a wedding and honeymoon on the Kona side meant I had to do a bit more research, which led me to VRBO, and ultimately to the Campbell's rental home.
The location is perfect, just a block off Ali'i Drive, and minutes from the shopping/dining in Kailua-Kona. A block away is a beach perfect for watching sunsets, turtles and surfers.
The house is charming, and exactly what we wanted; a more traditional Hawaiian style house than cookie-cutter corporately run condo. Plenty of ventilation to take advantage of ocean breezes, under-cover carport parking, great (!) kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a cozy master bedroom. Hawaiian art scattered throughout, snorkel and beach gear available, and a cute lanai and outdoor patio set in the backyard. We were enchanted and would stay again.
The owners were great to deal with, from my initial email and phone conversation with Keri, to the super prompt deposit refund!
Staying here just enhanced an already magical wedding/honeymoon week for us, and we are so happy with where we stayed!
House is one block from ocean access. Public transportation one block. Busy town approximately 2.5 miles. Schools and church in the neighborhood.
