“Mama said we had to let those rooms out...”

-Forrest Gump

So we’re inviting you to enjoy our cabin as much as we do!

The Treehouse is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin nestled in the trees in the South Toe River Valley of Burnsville, NC just minutes from fresh water fishing, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Mount Mitchell Golf Course. Enjoy some of the best hiking, golfing, and scenery in Western North Carolina. Of course, there’s also a lot to be said for porch sitting, and relaxing at night by a crackling fire. Luckily, we have that too!

Staying at the Treehouse has all the best aspects of staying in a cozy cabin in the woods, with all the conveniences you need to maintain the creature comforts of home. When you step out onto the oversized deck you are surrounded by the natural landscape of beautiful Western North Carolina, with no major roads, noisy neighbors or obstructive views, instantly drawing you into the sights, sounds, and smells (ahhh the smells) of the valley. Pour yourself a beer or glass of wine and grab an adirondack; you are staring at Mt. Mitchell, the tallest peak East of the Misssissippi River. Grill out and dine on the deck, when it cools down, cozy up in front of the stone fire place, and when you’re plum tuckered from too much fun & relaxation, snuggle into some of the comfiest bedding you’ve ever slept in; there’s no night’s sleep like a night sleeping in the Mountains. On a morning or evening walk it’s not uncommon to see deer in the meadow right above the property, and of course, we’re only a hop from the Golf Course, a skip from the beautiful South Toe River (complete with numerous waterfalls), and a jump from the amazing Blue Ridge Parkway!

Asheville is only an hour away with some of the most amazing restaurants, breweries and live music as well as the Biltmore House and the Grove Park Inn.

About James McKeever

Welcome to our Treehouse! We are James & Cameron McKeever. We live full time in Dunedin, Florida, a small coastal city on the West coast of Florida near the Clearwater Beach area. Throughout our travels of the US, we have discovered and hold true to the belief that these are the best two places a person can possibly find! We try to spend as much time at the Treehouse as we can, and it is truly our second home, not just a rental. We only hope you enjoy staying in our home as much as we do!

James McKeever purchased this cabin in 2005

Why James McKeever chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We found the Treehouse while visiting the area with a friend who also had property in the South Toe River Valley. Out of the five or six properties we looked at, this was the first and only I (Cameron) needed to see. When we walked in, it felt exactly like my Grandfather’s cabin we used to stay in growing up as a kid. We had the greatest memories of that little cabin in the woods, and couldn’t wait to make our own. With James surrendering to the fact that there’s simply no competition for fond memories, we bought it in 2005, and over the past several years not only have we put our blood, sweat, tears and hearts into it (we just call it ‘good mojo’), but we have fallen head over heels in love with the South Toe Valley, and Asheville. Leaving is always a heartbreak.

What makes this cabin unique

House is away from road and private with huge open deck nestled in the trees, and view of Mount Mitchell. Inside amenities include new appliances, new HVAC, new bedding & new fireplace. Open living room with wall of windows brings the outside in. Feels like a cozy cabin in the woods but with all the modern conveniences.

Excellent and relaxing vacation

If you like nature and get away from buzy and routine life of the city, the treehouse is the best place for it. My wife and I had a great time and would do it again next year with no doubt.

The Treehouse review

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this lovely place for 4 days/3 nights. The first evening was spent sitting on the deck, looking at the beautiful view we had of Mount Mitchell. Unfortunately, the weather messed up our stay the next 2 days, due to the combined effects from a cold front and hurricane Matthew. We look to return some day, with better weather, so we can enjoy playing golf and visiting the mountain. We found everything to be as advertised, per the web site. The bed was very comfortable, and all amenities worked fine. It was too windy to try the grill (like new) or the fire place. It is perfect spot for a couple to spent quality time together.

Owner's Response: Thanks for trying to keep Hurricane Matthew away, even though there was no luck. Try and come back when you can and see the place with the right weather. The area certainly won't disappoint.

Recent Stay at The Treehouse

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a week at The Treehouse and we enjoyed it very much. The cabin is very well appointed, nicely decorated with comfortable beds and furniture. The decor of the cabin leaves you feeling like you are a guest at someone's home, a wonderful feeling. We had dinner every night on the deck, watching the sun set behind Mt Mitchell. Enjoyed a cup of hot tea in the morning on the deck, with a soft throw in the Adirondack chairs. The kitchen is small but well stocked, with great cast iron skillets and nice dishes. The setting is so quiet and serene, it is just the perfect place for getting away from the stresses of life and having some quiet time together. Close to BRP, Asheville, Mt Mitchell and other activities for venturing out. We would definitely recommend staying here if you have the chance.

A beautiful home in a serene setting.

We really enjoyed our recent stay at The Treehouse. The house was well appointed with comfortable beds and furniture. The views from the deck were amazing. The McKeevers were very friendly and provided many good tips on what to see and do. We would love to visit again in the future. Thank you James and Cameron for sharing your lovely home.

A Great Getaway at the Treehouse

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful, much needed long weekend at the Treehouse near Mt Mitchell Golf Course. This cabin was in perfect location. It has an amazing view of Mt Mitchell directly off the large deck. It is very private and secluded, however, it is very easy to find and to get to. The cabin is very nicely decorated. We used the master bedroom which has a king bed and it was very comfortable. There is one other bedroom downstairs and a third bed in the loft upstairs. Although it is perfect for a couple, there is ample room for another couple or to bring children. It is located only 5 mins from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is about a 30 min drive to the top of Mt Mitchell where we spent one full day hiking. And about an 1 1/2 hour drive down the Parkway to Asheville. We cooked in most meals and we found all the supplies we needed. The owners were great to work with. Upon my initial reservation there was a slight conflict in the dates and the owner work with us to get all this resolved and we had a very stress-free vacation. We strongly recommend the Treehouse!!

Wonderful place to be anytime

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay, but not at last at the Cozy Treehouse. The house sits with a beautiful view, even if you are inside. Not many places have that to offer. Immediately we felt right at home when entering. Even though the kitchen may be small for some, I found it to be just right. Everything was well appointed.

We spent the nights we stayed on the deck, just taking in the view. The beds were very comfortable, so getting a good night sleep is definitely in store.

We have been coming to this area for many years, just love the quietness, golf at the base of the road, with fishing up the road, and waterfalls within walking distance. We visit Blowing Rock, Black Mountain, hiking Crabtree Falls, driving the parkway...we so enjoy the people in this part of the country.

James was wonderful to work with, could not ask for anything more.
