About Susan Atherton

We are from the FLorida Keys and are both retired. We love to boat and fish there and love to travel and enjoy our time spent in the mountains.

Susan Atherton purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Susan Atherton chose Bryson City Area

We chose this beautiful 3.5 acres in this wonderful mountain gated community as we loved the feel of being in the forest and that the access road was easy to drive. Also that this property is located so close to all that the amenities and activities in this area. That it is very quiet and peaceful. I was raised in Eastern North Carolina and as a child we vacationed here in this area.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet, gated community, easy access, close to everything. Private and a place to relax on the beautiful open deck or in our hot tub overlooking the mountains and listening to the sounds of wildlife. No street noise, no noisy neighbors just peace and quiet and a great place to hike or ride mountain bikes right here throughout our beautiful mountain community.

Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were coming to visit our son who lives nearby and repairs trails in the park. We needed a place to stay and were bringing our dog, so most hotels were out. We found this cabin that met our needs perfectly! The surroundings are beautiful, The rooms inside are roomy and I love the open kitchen. We used the cabin as a jump off spot to meet our son and his wife to go exploring the area, and then returned to fix a meal and watch some tv before bed time. It's helpful to have the property manager on site to when guests arrive answer questions and walk us through things like hot tub use and general info about the area. We needed help in finding the cabin since we programmed out GPS for a road with the same name in Cherokee. Be sure to use Whittier and you'll have no problem. If you're looking for a peaceful hideaway with a beautiful porch to relax on, 3 large bedrooms, a living room and family room and a kitchen that's ready to go, this is the place for you! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Amaizing Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, the cabin is goergeous and have a lot of rooms, kitchen and BBQ area are very spacious. The kids enjoy the fire place we made s'mores every night, the Jacuzzi is a big plus after every day adventure, I couldn't wait to enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub

The only problem is the garbage, is too far and the schedule is bit complicated, also Internet or phone forget about it only Verizon works!! But regardless we had a great family getaway! New year eve at the Cherokee Casino was a great place to end our year with lots of activities

I wil definately come back and recommend the cabin to any family

Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. Glad you enjoyed our cabin. As to the garbage the dump is only 5 miles away and is open from 7am to 7pm every day except Sundays and holidays. Unfortunately mountain communities don't have the luxury of garbage pickup. We do have a house phone for your usage. And we do not have DSL service but most of the time our visitors do not have any issues with service.

Wonderful cabin, no view

  • 4 of 5

This is a wonderful cabin. Our family had a great Christmas holiday here. The living/dining/kitchen open room was perfect for everyone to spend time together. And having the bonus room for grandpa to watch sports was a great feature. The cabin was clean and beautiful, though a bit cluttered for my taste. I put lots of breakables in the closet to protect them from my children.

The cabin is in a wooded area so you only saw trees, a mountain view is the only missing feature. We were close to Cherokee and Bryson City. Getting to the cabin really isn't bad, but it is steep and if there had been bad weather I don't know that I would have been comfortable driving it. Overall a great place and I would certainly stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. We are very appreciative that you put away collectibles that you thought your children might break. As to the view, we have a great partial view during the winter months of the long range mountains and I am sorry you did not realize this during your stay. As to the road, any road in the mountains can be tricky in bad weather but we feel as being real flatlanders that our access is pretty easy compared to a lot of the cabins higher in altitude and none of our previous guests had any complaints about it so please review our previous reviews. Thanks again.

Perfect Family Vacation in the Perfect Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This fantastic cabin was the perfect getaway for my family of 5. The cabin itself is immaculately maintained and cleaned. It is incredibly spacious with lots of room for everyone to spread out and get some quiet time. Glorious kitchen, charming bedrooms, and two fantastic living rooms. Not to mention, the fantastic wraparound deck which instantly became our #1 dining spot- especially for breakfast. Super cute decor too-- my kids LOVED the bears. Jerry, the on-site contact, was incredibly friendly, helpful, and informative.

We also loved the area it was in. The town of Sylva was a favorite for us to go and wander through. We loved the microbrewery and the main street shops. We had a great time tubing at the nearby Deep Creek and we had the BEST time rafting the Nantahala River. We even enjoyed a drive through the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway! We also took a day trip to Asheville and enjoyed the Biltmore Estate in all of its summertime glory (spring for the audio tours and bring hiking shoes to walk the trails on the property). Other than the Asheville trip, everything else was about 20 minutes or less.

Definitely loved this place. Would love to go back. Highly recommend it!

This cabin was more luxurious than expected for the price and offered lots of room to relax and enjoy one's stay. Cabin was very nicely decorated and very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. The hot tub was great. Sofas were very comfortable and TVs offered plenty of channels. Location close to many activities. Great stay for 2 or more persons.

This was one of the most beautiful cabins that my family and I have ever stayed in. We came here for Thanksgiving and the inside of the cabin was more beautiful than what we expected. The rooms were nice and cozy and the décor was amazing! Will definitely stay here again.
