We have loved the Big Island of Hawaii since we first came here on our honeymoon over a decade ago. We fell instantly in love with the climate, the beautiful landscapes, the perfect ocean and the relaxed lifestyle. Over the years we found ourselves coming back here more and more often - always staying in vacation rental properties. These experiences taught us what really mattered in a vacation property. We took this education into account when we designed Pakele Lani. Everything a guest could need is here - and its all the best we could get. No corners were cut.
The name Pakele Lani means 'Heavenly Escape' because Hawaii has always been that for us. Our family home is just up the street. We look forward to sharing our corner of paradise with you. Come escape with us from the crowds, bad weather and the stress of the 'real world'.
Lynn and Etienne purchased this house in 2013
Vacations are about comfort and relaxation for everyone. The best thing about this property is the variety of different spaces that allow people to enjoy themselves without tripping over one-another.
The private pool in the back yard is great for cooling off while sun-bathing - or for the kids to play nearby at the end of the day.
Nothing compares to lying in a completely private back-yard spa under a night sky filled with an impossible number of stars... and it's just ten feet from the master bedroom.
The separate family room has ample entertainment for all ages and is located away from the great room - which itself has perfectly comfy chairs, a large sofa and a monster TV.
And, of course, the Ohana is the ultimate private escape. A completely separate structure for those members of your party who need/deserve their own space.
We wanted a premium property that would satisfy the most discerning guests - ourselves. This is the result of our decade long search for the ideal property and our uncompromising selection of amenities and decor.
We hope you love it as much as we do - and open our hearts to your suggestions to make Pakele Lani live up to its name.
Three pools! A private pool in the back yard, and across the street a huge community pool where the kids can hang out with new friends, while you work out in the 1/4 Olympic (12.5 yards) lap pool.
Privacy! No shared bathrooms in this house. No neighbors can see into the main house thanks to rock walls, dense foliage and the property placement on a golf course fairway. Better still, the Ohana and Princess rooms are well away from the main living spaces. This allows some people to sleep while others socialize.
The kitchen! Only the good stuff. The owner is an avid chef. All the right tools are there and they are all best-in class. In many cases we bought several different models of an appliance. The best ones are in Pakele Lani. The others went on Craigs List or eBay.
The Beach Club! Right up the road, the private Beach Club is never crowded. It's sheltered from wind and waves so the snorkeling and paddle boarding are always great. The full service restaurant and bar seal the deal.
The other beach! The Holoholokai Beach Park is an easy walk away. The tide pools and unspoiled coastline are magnificent for beach-combing, surfing, or advanced snorkeling. A grassy picnic area with tables and bathrooms is right next to the surf.
The sunsets! The huge glass doors of the great room face directly to the west. Every night we get a different spectacular sunset over the golf course and ocean.
We originally chose this house due to the amount of people it could sleep. The numbers assume some babies and toddlers - they have strollers, toys, high chairs, cribs and beds for a few tots. We would have killed for those features a few years back! Make sure you review all of the rooms to make sure your group fits. Ours worked out great. Everything was top notch! The occasional hiccup was quickly resolved. The great room was amazing - perfect for an island vacation. My son is begging for one of the reclining chairs for his dorm room. (Too nice, not happening.) The kitchen has all of the cookware and appliances you might need. We made waffles, pancakes, poke, grilled chicken and fish along with rice and quinoa in the rice cooker. The pool is a huge bonus. While you picture yourself at the beach, it is nice for the kids to swim while breakfast or dinner is being prepared. Sunset in the hot tub is also a plus!
While the house itself is beyond compare, the extra touches are amazing. More than just the basic beach towels and snorkel equipment, you get use of a stand up paddle board, electric car, coolers, beach chairs, and a variety of beach equipment. It was an amazing vacation - and the house was a great!
This home was fantastically equipped and I am not just referring to all the kitchen appliances but the fun stuff. Toys, books, DVDs and a playstation gaming system that make it perfect for kids of all ages. We travelled as two families with five children aged between 8 and 14 year old. We weren't sure how much we would use the pool at home but we couldn't get the kids out of it. Whilst not big it ticked the box and meant the kids were not rushing us out the door in the mornings and we could have a leisurely start to the day. Us adults liked the hot tub for early morning coffee and the beautiful sunsets you get from the property.
It was a very short two minute walk to the neighborhood pool which is clean and large and never felt busy plus one of our group loved the lap pool for more serious exercise. We took full advantage of the neighborhood electric vehicle for quick trips to the local supermarket for more aloe gel or to grab a cocktail sans children. We laughed every time we used it - so much fun! The beach club was only a 5 minute ride or 15 minute cycle and was great for paddle boarding and snorkeling but we visited Kua Bay and Hapuna for the more serious business of boogie boarding which was exceptional and perhaps a little rough for the 8 year old! The garage at this home has a good range of bikes but also all the stuff you need for the beach but don't want to have to buy. Boogie boards, cooler boxes, great quality snorkeling sets and lots of sand toys too. There is also table tennis which we opened up on the drive one night.
The house itself is beautifully furnished and well laid out so everyone gets privacy and their own bathroom. Our teen boys shared the casita which they loved. The beds I believe are all memory foam and were very comfortable. I definitely recommend this house as a holiday rental for two families or three if you have very young children as we noticed they had cots and all the baby equipment you could need ready for set up.
Etienne was great to deal with and responded quickly including when we lost light for our nighttime hot tub/star gazing and quickly popped round to change a bulb for us. Great to know he was close by if needed but equally gave us total privacy during our stay.
Other must do's were the Tommy Bahamas restaurant, Lava Lava club, Fairmont beach restaurant, Hapuna Beach and Kua Bay plus the Volcanoes National Park which was well worth the trip. Amazing vacation thank you.
We rented this beautiful property for 6 nights. It was everything that we expected and more. The house was clean and well kept and included an inviting pool and hot tub. The house was well stocked with many ammenities including toys for children of all ages. We were provided with all sorts of beach and water equipment. Having use of the golf cart was great. The magnificent beach was only minutes away. Our hosts did everything to make our stay a pleasant and memorable one. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family. Using VRBO was easy. An accurate description of the rental property was provided. The process of the payment plan was made simple .
This home is set-up, as many previous reviews state, for families. We were a large group, 8 adults and 5 children aged four and under (two babies). Everything we needed or wanted was available to us at the house - cribs, high chair, baby monitor, stroller, wagon, bikes, pool toys and pfd's for the kids, as well as beach toys and snorkel sets, boogie boards, etc. for the adults. We used just about everything! We enjoyed family bike rides, walks, the pool at our home and the community pool, the golf course and neighbourhood putting green, and of course the snorkelling sets and sup at the beach club. We used the golf cart daily. Family members used the workout facilities every day, and we enjoyed the nearby shops and the extremely friendly staff at the Foodland grocery store down the street. We especially appreciated, with two young families in our group, that one family could stay in the ohana, which made it easier for the little ones to nap without interruption and allowed for a bit of separation between the children when necessary! We also appreciated access to Netflix in all rooms, as we hadn't planned on watching tv while on vacation, but after a long day in the sun, the kids needed some inside time. There are tons of toys in the house as well. There is a portable fold-up fence at the house which we used to separate the lanai seating area from the pool, ensuring that our toddler and crawler didn't have access to the water. A great plus. We also used the bbq several times, and found everything we needed plus more in the well-stocked kitchen. It was very windy a few of the days we were there, and we realized that an added plus to this home is that the lanai faces west, which means the wind coming down from the mountains doesn't affect you when you're sitting outside. We felt that the people across the street were probably not enjoying their outside time the way we were able to. Some highlights were the beautiful and peaceful fish ponds adjacent to the beach club and the Mauna Lani Hotel, Kimobean Coffee at the shops, the Polynesian show at the shops, dinner at Monstera, and the stunning Hapuna Beach State Park, just a 10 minute drive north up the highway.
Stayed the second week of February 2016, with six adults and one ten year old child. The weather was great as was the house and all of the amenities.
It was truly set up that you only needed to bring your clothing and toiletries, as everything else was available.
Would recommend this house for your stay.
The property was incredible with all the amenities that one could ask for. This was not only inclusive of a functioning home but also with all the gear our friends and family needed to enjoy the beautiful beaches close by.
The Golf cart available through the property was a massive help for quick trips to the resort and the store.
We fell in love with the island and it was in part due to the hospitality of our landlords and the beautiful setting.
With no rain to speak of, pristine tropical breezes, moderate humidity and warm temperatures, Mauna Lani has been said to have the finest weather in the world. Year-round average daytime temperature's range from 81 to 87 degrees F. Nighttime temps average in the low 70's. Average annual rainfall is less than an inch. Unlike other parts of Hawaii, there is no volcanic pollution (vog).
Pakele Lani guests have free access to the exclusive Mauna Lani Beach Club - boasting a private white-sand beach with lounge chairs, covered cabanas and an on-site restaurant and bar. The calm beach is perfect for sunbathing, beach play, and snorkeling. Stand-up paddle boards and kayaks are available for rent. While there, visitors may also enjoy a sightseeing cruise on the Winona catamaran or take a stroll through the magnificent historic fish ponds to view a myriad of fish and visiting sea turtles.
The Shops at Mauna Lani are an easy ten-minute stroll from the home. They offer fine and casual dining, a real grocery store, fashion, art, a 4D cinema and live entertainment.
The Francis H I'i Brown North & South Championship Golf Courses at Mauna Lani are set on lava flows with lush greens and magnificent ocean views. With some tee shots to the green directly over the ocean, this is one of the world's most talked about golf destinations.
The Fairmont Orchid has a weekly 'Gathering of the Kings Lu'au'
Mauna Lani has its own Tennis Club, Sports and Fitness Center, and Spa.
