And don't forget to include some info about your group when sending a request to make sure this is a good fit. Let me know if you are familiar with Palm Springs and this neighborhood, or if you are a first-time visitor. Thanks!
A classic 1961 Alexander home designed by Charles Dubois, this house is mostly original, except for the kitchen which underwent a sleek update a while back. While 1800 sf may be on the smaller side for this neighborhood, this house is big on charm and one of the best priced options you will find. The history of Vista Las Palmas is star-studded with celebrity homes, and is a Mecca for lovers of modernist architecture from all over the world. It's just a 10 or 15 minute walk to Palm Canyon Drive and Palm Springs' best and hippest restaurants and shopping.
Many vintage furnishings by George Nelson, Irving Harper, the Eameses etc. in the home set the mood for modern living. The living area is light-filled and 3 sets of sliders invite you out to the pool, which is in the south-facing backyard looking out to the mountains. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need.
The master bedroom is spacious, with a king-sized bed, TV and an en suite bath which boasts a roman tub with a window wall to the magnificent morning view.
This house is updated with many modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, but it is not tricked out. Modernists will love the vintage character of this home.
Please tell me something about you and your party when you request your reservation to make sure this is a good fit.
Also, let me know if you want the pool heated for your stay and I will make sure the quote reflects that.
Thanks for looking!
Modernist and Desert Lover!
I welcome you to discover the joys of desert living and appreciate the legacy the Modernists left for us here is PS - especially the homes of Vista Las Palmas.
Hank purchased this house in 1999
My partner and I rented the house for eight nights during Modernism Week. Hank's house is in the best neighborhood in Palm Springs on a quiet street perfect for walks and biking and easy drive to the Uptown Design District. The house is in terrific condition for a vacation rental with great views, pool and everything you need to cook up a storm. The house is well appointed and very comfortable day and night. The VRBO process and responsiveness from Hank made arrival and departure super easy. As two busy executives, we needed a get away without issues and Hank's house delivered. Hope to book it again next year and get a couple of friends to join.
Last year my girlfriends and I stayed at this VRBO for 10 days. It was perfect for a girls getaway. We had such a great time that to this day we still talk about how much fun we have and how a trip back is definitely a must. The house is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood that is close to many restaurants, shops, and night life. The backyard has great sun exposure and is very private. The master bathroom is huge which was perfect for 4 girls getting ready to go out for dinner!
We had a small issue with the AC one night but Hank came to our rescue the following day and it was fixed promptly!
We really loved this house and would highly recommend to anyone. The four of us are looking forward to when we can return to this beautiful Palm Springs home!
The owner takes great care to select period decor. The location is wonderful for enjoying mid-century modern architecture and style. Easy to get to town. Very accommodating host.
Apparently we are more particular than others who have reviewed this rental. Let me start by saying that this is a visually attractive home and overall we did enjoy our time here. However, the devil is in the details. The home across the back wall is the 'Bob's Big Boy' estate. Look it up. 6 bed 6 bath party house. We had waves of families with screaming, playing kids. The city will shut down amplified music or excessive noise late at night - otherwise a dozen kids can scream all day long if they like. In addition, they have a raised deck right next to the back wall with a clear, unobstructed view of the master bedroom and shower in the master bath. I pointed this out to Hank twice and he doesn't care and has no plans to simply plant 2 or 3 bushes.
From the day we arrived the pool pump was incredibly loud. A loud droning noise that periodically shifted to a high pitched screeching. We literally could not talk outdoors. The water steadily turned green throughout our stay. Numerous complaints to Hank went without any effective solution. I was made to feel as though I was too picky - nobody else had complained. The solution was to not have the pump running (or heating the pool) during the day. Very long story short the pump motor finally gave out 3 days before our departure. Sure enough the next day a new motor was installed and was perfectly quiet! That should have been done before our arrival. Hank's only solution was to offer to reimburse for 3 days of pool heating. After a full month of not being ale to enjoy the pool. I declined.
- Dishwasher does not work.
- Dishes were put into the cupboards dirty and covered in crusty food.
- Had to hand wash all dishes upon our arrival.
- Broken toaster.
- No kettle.
- Found a pan of rancid fat in the oven. YUCK.
- Wifi is insecure with no password. Bogs down in evening with all the neighbours using it.
- Had to repair the bicycles myself in order to use.
- Every cupboard, shelf, and surface stuffed with owners collections, stuff, and enough bedding for 5 houses.
Other houses in the neighbourhood are priced comparably & are professionally managed & maintained. We have booked the one right at the end of the road for next year for a few hundred more and it is finished to a much higher standard with new kitchen and bathrooms, outdoor shower, pool, spa, and more. Save yourself the aggravation of constantly having to text Hank about a dozen issues and problems and being made to feel like you're a whiner.
What a pleasant surprise it was to rent this gem of a home! It had plenty of space for us, an inviting pool, and a beautiful floor plan that made enjoying the warm evenings following our closely-located conference all the better. The home was clean, well organized, & in an amazing location right in the middle of many celebrity homes. We are looking forward to returning again!
Was great to stay in Hank's house. Like staying in a film set. Lots of nice touches around the place. Of particular note, the bedroom looks great and the bed's very comfortable. Take a walk around the neighbourhood for umpteen mid century houses to drool over.
