About Bill Thom

Book with someone you can trust! I am a Michigan native and fell in love with the charm & natural beauty of 'UpNorth' many years ago. I have lived in Texas since 1984, and spent summers in Charlevoix with my family. Now my four children are grown and spread across the country from Virginia to Washington. It's your turn to experience the wonder of Half House!

Bill Thom purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Bill Thom chose Northern Michigan

I have been a homeowner in Charlevoix for over twenty five years. I purchased Half House in 2001 and quite frankly, I couldn't believe it was for sale! It is perfectly located across from the beach and just two blocks to downtown.

What makes this cottage unique

I love the quirky eccentricity of this fairytale home. It has so much history and character; thoroughly enchanting! I am pleased to now be able to share it with you.

Notes:
The house will accommodate five in beds, however I do not recommend more than four adults. The second bedroom located upstairs is small with two twin beds, and better suited for two children or single adults. There is an additional full-size sleeper sofa in the living room, however it IS in the living room! Perfect for stretching out and reading, looking out the picture window at Lake Michigan, or gazing at a blazing fire.

The Hobbit House was perfect for my weekend getaway! The location was perfect, within walking distance to everything Charlevoix has to offer. I loved the amazing view of Lake Michigan, and enjoyed a blazing fire while relaxing in the cozy warmth of this beautiful cottage.

Inside a Hobbit House

  • 5 of 5

Great stay in a very comfortable and unique home. Loved the fireplace. Had everything you needed for a great stay. The only little improvement I can think of is replacing the rugs in the living room and bedroom as they appear to be kind of worn.

Hobbit House

We only stayed 2 nights out of our week stay. Had a family emergency and had to leave. The 2 days we stayed were enjoyable, house is cute and very well layed out. Mr. Thom was very understanding and refunded half of our money.

Magical!

  • 5 of 5

What a magical weekend! Charlevoix is exquisite. Finding petoskey stones on the beach. Delicious crepes from the French Place. Beautiful walks looking at the other mushroom houses. Our little half house did not disappoint. Beyond accommodating filled with little extras that made our stay even more special. Thank you so much for an incredible weekend!

We loved our stay at the Half House aka Hobbit house aka Mushroom house. It is clean and comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable! It was perfect for 3 single ladies and was convenient to everything in Charlevoix. Would love to stay here again next year! Thanks Bill!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing! Would highly recommend staying here. My wife and I came to a very clean and organized Hobbit house. Apparently Hobbits like to leave their houses tidied up before heading off on another great adventure.

5/5. Would definitely come back again. The town of Charlevoix is also a very neat place to shop at, explore, and eat at. The house is only a few minutes drive from the town and is a stone's throw from a beautiful beach on lake Michigan.

Bill is also an awesome guy. Very eager to help and answer any questions you may have while staying there.
