Charming stand-alone studio in a very private, peaceful and secluded location. Just three miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and six miles from the Volcano Golf Course and Volcano Winery, you can enjoy the native birds who seranade you amongst the fern forest. Our studio provides you with a Queen-sized bed, loft, kitchenette, bathroom/shower, skylights and radiant heating. There is a picnic table in the carport and private covered parking. Just 30 minutes from Hilo, you can enjoy the beaches and waterfalls and all Hilo town has to offer and then get away to the serenity of Volcano and spend your nights in the cooler temperatures and see the glow of the Volcano. From Kona, it's about a two-hour drive, but very pretty and lots to see in between. About 30 minutes South of Volcano, is the beautiful black sand Punaluu Beach. Volcano Village, only 2 miles away, has a number of restaurants (menus at the house), a post office, convenience store, and a few other little stores. This Village is also known for it's artist studios sprinkled all throughout town. On Sunday mornings, there is a farmer's market in the village.
Pele's Tiki Hale was personally designed and built by the Owner's Mike and Joy Gillette. Mike's craftsmanship and special detail to the local Ohia trees is what creates the charm to our studio.
Joy Gillette purchased this studio in 2006
Perfect last minute 2 night staycation accommodation for home base to enjoy: Volcano National Park and 10 mile trek to flowing lava; a sunrise boat tour of flowing lava with Captain Shane of Lava Ocean Tours; and Volcano Village's Ohelo Cafe for delicious dinner, drinks and dessert and Lava Rock Cafe's fluffy pancakes with lilikoi butter for breakfast. Joy's accommodation was clean, well appointed (cooktop and dining at covered outdoor lanai), and had comfortable and clean bedding and towels. Easy to book and communicate with Joy. We hope to make it back again in the future.
We had a great time staying in this studio and would highly recommend it to anyone taking a short trip to the Volcano National Park. The place was only a 5-10 minute drive to the park entrance and our stay was as quiet as could be.
The loft is great for reading, napping, watching a movie on the laptop, or even playing a few board games that are tucked away up there. The outdoor cooking area and table came in handy more than a couple times. The best part was probably the bed, which was a soft memory foam that allowed us to sleep soundly after hiking each day.
My wife and I visited from Oahu for a two night stay. The cabin is really nice; cozy mountain/forest vibe with big skylights, beautiful Ohia trees and ferns. A few minutes from the awe inspiring volcano national park(great spot for nighttime volcano watching) and close enough to Ka'u, greensand beach, south point, and Hilo/hamakua coast for easy day trips.
Overall the place was clean, comfortable, good shower/bathroom, comfortable bed. Easy to find, didn't see anyone else around while we were there.
Very quiet and secluded with beautiful surroundings. The studio was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely visit again!"
This is more like a cabin than a condo. The water supply (washing and bathing) is from a rain water collection system, and bottled water is supplied for drinking and cooking. No TV (I don't watch tv, so didn't care). There is an mp3 player, so bring the music you like. WIFI available - a little slow, but not bad (if you haven't slowed down yet to enjoy Hawaii, now would be a good time). Heat is radiant heat, and it takes a couple of hours to warm up, if you happen to arrive when it's cold. Once heated, it stayed warm. Loft has a ladder to get up to it, not stairs. Kids would probably love it. Grounds are pretty - very green, and the plants keep other dwellings out of view. It was quiet, the days we were there.
It's very close to Volcano Natl Park, which we appreciated after spending a tiring day there. You can go back into the park at night to see the volcano glow. One morning, we had the buffet breakfast at Volcano House - excellent food, great view of the volcano, relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
It's about 28 miles to Hilo, which has a lot of things to do, and a fun farmers market (open most days, I think - a couple of the days have more vendors than others). All in all, a pretty good location. We stayed here three nights, and then moved to Kailua-Kona for the rest of the week.
We enjoyed our week's stay at Pele's Tiki Hideaway, which is a cozy cabin in a jungle setting, which is set back from the road in a quiet neighborhood. It is located about 2 miles from Volcano National Park, which was our main reason for visiting the Big Island. The only drawback was not having a comfortable chair to sit in, as the inside options were a wood folding chair or the bed. Other than that issue, the cabin is nicely stocked to meet your needs. If we ever revisit this Hawaiian Island we would consider renting this unit again.
Communication was easy with a quick response from Joy.
