About Janet Pressel

Our first trip to Playa del Carmen was in 1990 as two young college students. The town was nothing more than a ferry stop to Cozumel with a few hostels! Twenty years later we rediscovered Playa while traveling with our two young daughters. After traveling to many destinations throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Asia in those twenty years, we fell in love with Playa all over again! The beautiful beaches, world-class restaurants, and interesting culture made it an easy decision to purchase a vacation home in Playa and we have not regretted it one bit!

Janet Pressel purchased this condo in 2011

Why Janet Pressel chose Quintana Roo

After an exhaustive property search, we purchased at Mareazul because of its proximity to downtown -- only 5 minutes by car -- yet it feels worlds away. You can enjoy a fabulous dinner in town and experience the fun night-life, then come back to your peaceful oasis at Casa Vida Dulce.

What makes this condo unique

One of our favorite things to do is sip our morning coffee on the balcony. It is the fastest way to unwind from the hectic pace of normal life. Enjoy the view of the turquoise ocean, the stunning 32,000 square foot swimming pool and the refined architecture of the complex. Enjoy your coffee and ponder what the day will bring: A day of kite surfing at the beach, relaxation at the pool, a round of golf at the Nick Price Golf Course, a trip to Tulum, or a day at X-Caret? You may find yourself having another cup of coffee and considering a lazy day reading a book on the balcony. That is the charm of Casa Vida Dulce.

5 Star Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this location for your next vacation! You have the best of both worlds, quiet and relaxing, but close enough to 5th Ave for any excitement you require!

This location was a home away from home for us. We found the condo very bright and spacious, and exactly how the pictures portray it. We would definitely stay here again! The appliances were modern, and the kitchen was very well stocked. We stayed in and cooked most of our meals this vacation. Also included bottled/filtered water. The deck is very spacious and has two lounge chairs and a table and chairs to eat at. The best place to drink your morning coffee was on the deck! The condo is so spacious that we could lose each other in it! Lots of privacy for relaxation. We loved how quiet Mareazul was.

I can’t say enough about how cool the pool is! It is one the hugest interconnecting pools we have ever seen with endless fun for kids. There were always chairs to be found, and the pool area was never crowded. The snack bar beside the pool was closed the entire time of our stay. Very beautiful beach and we were always able to find beach chairs throughout the day. The waves from the ocean were never so huge that the kids ever had a problem playing and swimming. Some days had a bit of seaweed though. I will mention security is always on hand at the beach. They would go around and ask anyone not staying at Mareazul to leave the private beach area. A short walk down the beach was a beach club to get great drinks and very good food.

The condo is located on the north side of Playa, and is an easy short cab ride to 5th Ave for all the excitement and restaurants. We did not rent a car, and never had a problem getting a cab (usually 160 pesos one way to 5th Ave). We were able to get our groceries and a cab would bring us back to the resort. There were two grocery stores, a Wal-Mart or the Mega Commercial Mexicana. Both were great. We did find a better fish selection at the Mega though. But the Wal-Mart might have had a better produce selection.

The property management company met us at the condo the day of our arrival. They were very helpful and polite to deal with. The condo was kept very clean with a cleaner there every day.

My kids say this was the best vacation ever and can't wait to go back!

Excellent vacation with family.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Casa Vida Dulce during the week of New Years and had a wonderful time. I'll start off by saying that the location is excellent. I would highly recommend renting a vehicle if you plan on exploring the surrounding area. Most of the major sites are about an hour away. Our day trips included Tulum, Coba, Cozumel (ferry dock) Xplor and Xcaret. As for the grounds they are beautiful and very well maintained. This condo is located in the Grand Coral development which houses several different properties. Mareazul has plenty of amenities that are walking distance, this includes a gym, spa, enormous pool, private beach and a few snack bars. Mareazul also has a wonderful Nick price design golf course. The cost was 175 USD per player, but after speaking with the pro shop we receive a discounted rate for staying at Mareazul.

The resort security was also very organized. The multiple layers of guard checkpoints really makes you feel safe.

The condo exceeded our expectations, it was great. The pictures were exactly as the product offered. It was a beautiful place with great amenities. The apartment was incredible, it was clean and very well presented. We will return and without a doubt we will stay at Casa Vida Dulce, it was perfect for our families needs. Enjoy the stay!

Great vacation with family.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Vida Dulce during the week of New Years and had a great time. The condo was exactly what we expected. Clean, modern and well equipped. It is a unit in the Mareazul complex on the north side of Playa. As some other reviewers have mentioned, this is not an all inclusive resort. It is a condo. However, there is a small snack bar by the pool where you can buy meals, drinks and snacks. We had drinks with chips and guacamole by the pool and even delivered to us at the beach several times and really liked it. We ate out for most of our meals, but did cook at the condo for several meals and had everything we needed at the condo to do that. There is also a beach club next door where you can do pretty much any of the activities that I imagine you can do at any of the all inclusives.

We had a car which is really needed if you want to do much exploring around Playa. However, the condo is a short drive to 5th Ave. which is really the heart of all the tourist activity in Playa. My wife and two daughters (both teens) found the condo the perfect location for us because it was away from the congested part of Playa and was a great retreat after a long day shopping or taking a snorkeling tour. The property management staff from Moskito (offsite) were friendly, responsive and went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay including making tour reservations and New Years' eve dinner reservations.

If you are looking for a quiet place to put up your feet away from the hustle and bustle of Playa, this is definitely the place. Enjoy!

Best family vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

From Vancouver, BC.

We started planning our family vacation in early February, there are five of us plus this year we decided to bring grandma too. It came down to the Mayan Riviera vs Hawaii. Glad we picked Playa del Carmen, Hawaii had the hurricanes this year at the time of our holiday.

We had rented property with VRBO in the past and decided to give it a try again. I found Pure Mareazul and in particular this unit. After checking out the reviews I knew this was a place worth looking into.

First let me mention what Mareazul is not: It is not an all-inclusive, in fact it does not even have a restaurant, only a small outdoor cafe with limited selection, but great Maragritas. Mareazul is NOT a time share either so you will NOT be constantly nagged by sales people. It is NOT a hotel, so there is no Fancy lobby, room service or other hotel amenities.

Now what Mareazul is: It is the best kept secret in Playa del Carmen. The location in perfect, it is inside the Grand Coral Resort Property, a beautiful drive from the highway to the property surrounded by the golf course. Mareazul has its own gated entrance too, so you actually have to go through two security gates.

Mareazul has hands down the best, biggest and cleanest pool I have ever been in. Great Gym and three tennis courts.

Now for the unit itself, the owner has ensured that every aspect of your stay is perfect and you are not missing anything, It is like being at home only much nicer. Everything you need is there. It has two bedrooms plus two very comfortable sofas in the living room and the best part three full bathrooms, for a family of six having three toilets and three showers was a real treat. All appliances are top of the line and work perfectly.

The property management company was very very professional, I called them from the airport and they met us at the unit. We had daily house keeping so that meant clean towels every day for all six of us.

This place is for people that like to explore Playa del Carmen. You need to rent a car if you are staying here, Playa is not within walking distance. We enjoyed driving every day to the local stores, tortillas, eggs, roast chickens etc. We did most of our shopping in Mega Comercial Mexicana. We made breakfast, lunch and dinner, save lots of money and never got sick or tired of the same food you would get at an all inclusive.

I strongly recommend this property and this unit in particular you will not go wrong

gorgeous vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two daughters aged 10 and 13 and our moms stayed at this location in Play del Carmen for 12 nights. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this accommodation to others for the following reasons:

1) The accommodation itself is bright, spacious and modern. There were little extras that people might not think about in advance such as bottled water stocked in the unit, a washer and dryer, a large kitchen area, air conditioning, and wifi in the unit which is important as everyone wanted to connect on their ipads. Having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to prepare meals and hang out together was wonderful. There is also a large outside covered deck and it was nice to be able to eat outside.

2) The grounds are very well kept and the staff were friendly. Being about a 5 minute taxi ride from town was perfect as the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing at the property. Our moms are in their 70s so we didn't walk to town but it would not have been a problem to do so.

3) The pool I is actually several inter-connected pools and we all spent hours swimming between them. The pools are huge with lots of interesting shapes and features. The pool area was not crowded and there was lots of space for different groups to do their own thing.

4) Just down from the pool was a magnificent sandy beach. It was perfect for taking long walks, building sand castles and playing in the water. There were not a lot of people and it's one of the benefits to getting a few minutes out of town. The beach was very clean with lots of chairs and areas to sit.

5) There are plenty of activities that you can take a taxi or tour to. We went to Xel-ha, Xplor, Xcaret, Dolpinaris and Cozumel and would recommend all of them as a nice way to spend the day. Downtown has a mix of markets and modern shops so depending on what you're after there is something for everyone.

6) There are places to stay in Playa that cost less than Casa Vida Dulce. But considering what you get, this property is an outstanding choice. Everything was as we expected and we would recommend this accommodation to others.

Casa Vida Dulce

  • 5 of 5

Casa Vida Dulce lives up to everything advertised in print and photo. It is a beautiful, immaculate, peaceful and quiet property. The complex and property managers were professional and very helpful. The complex itself is beautifully maintained. We traveled with our teenage daughters and loved having all the amenities available to us....poolside lounge/restaurant service and access to the pristine beach and club for water activities. We also enjoyed the short trip to Playa del Carmen for shopping/dining. Would definitely recommend this property and will absolutely stay again.

Playa del Carmen is on the Riviera Maya just 40 km south of Cancun and adjacent to Cozumel. The location ensures a beach with low waves and calm waters. The entire Riviera Maya caters to American and European travelers so English is a major secondary language. You do not need to speak Spanish to safely and confidently travel through the area. Tourism is extremely important to the Yucatan Peninsula. The people are very friendly and willing to assist the first time visitor.

Playa del Carmen is such a unique town. It offers so much for first time visitors and it keeps visitors coming back time and again. The downtown area is defined by Avenida Quinta or Fifth Avenue, a pedestrian friendly avenue that boasts over 200 ethnically diverse restaurants, unique Mayan handcrafts, and upscale sophisticated shopping boutiques. A little further afield are the world-renowned Mayan ruins of Tulum and Coba, both breathtaking and fascinating in their uniqueness. The Mayan Riviera also boasts some of the most breathtaking cenotes or underground caves that will captivate adventure seekers. The area is also home to many eco-parks such as XCaret, Xplor and Xel-ha. Each has something for everyone, young and old alike!
