About James Davis

We're Hoosiers with a love for the beach, so when we found this beautiful oceanfront condo we knew it was a place we'd like to be able to share with others.

James Davis purchased this condo in 2013

Why James Davis chose Tybee Island

We love Tybee Island for its unique location... you are on the beach, away from it all. But if you want a little more excitement, downtown Savannah is less than 20 minutes away!

What makes this condo unique

Watch the dolphins play for hours from the balcony. The condo faces the water, about 1 mile past where the Savannah River and Little Back River meet the Atlantic Ocean. Watch huge cargo ships on their way to the Port of Savannah, shrimp boats, and every kind of recreational watercraft out there.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful view. Comfortable bed. Lovely granite in kitchen. Even when it is cold or windy outside, there is an amazing view of the water from the kitchen/living room.

Awesome View!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful stay! Absolutely loved the oceanfront view from our condo. It was very peaceful and quiet- you could hear the waves splashing ashore as you set on the balcony. The bed was super comfortable and the place was very clean. A few minor details that the owner should correct though: shower curtain needs to be changed in the bathroom; the toilet rocks when you sit on it; the shower head could use a little more pressure; and lastly, some dusting behind the bedroom TV wouldn't hurt. Again, these are minor things, and didn't hinder the wonderful time we had. My husband and I will definitely be visiting again soon!

Desperate need of updates

  • 2 of 5

Nice beachfront location. Condo appeared clean. Was equipped with everything needed for our stay. The condo is in desperate need of some TLC and updates. There was paint chipping off the walls. The couch smelled like the inside of a Goodwill store. One of the pillows was ripped. There was rain and some wind during our stay; we found it hard to sleep with the rattling bedroom window and the wind screaming through the sliding glass door. Definitely needs some weather stripping. We didn't use the stove but the drip pans were rusty and gross. With some minimal updates I would consider staying here again, but in it's current state I would not stay here again. Summary: it's old.

Amazing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to getaway for rest and relaxation. This recent trip to Tybee and staying in this perfect condo accomplished that. Highly recommend this for the scenic views. Especially enjoyed the high balcony chairs and table. The bed has a wonderful mattress that was perfect for my bad back.

Don't be fooled by the pictures or the description.

I can't say anything about the other visits, but I can tell you about mine. When I first contacted the owner about this property, I told him that I had a prosthetic hip and could not climb stairs. I asked if there was an elevator and he replied in an email, yes. But, he definitely did not mention the 20+ stairs you have to climb before you can access this elevator! Getting luggage up those was definitely a struggle. Also, If you can't go down three flights of stairs, you must walk the entire length of the building to get back and forth to the elevator. Trust me, it is quite a distance.

I must say this condo is in sad shape. First, we noticed how generally dirty the place was. Certain areas had not been swept and the couch was filthy. Something had been spilled on it and my wife tried to clean the stains off the seating areas. The couch pillows were also torn and stained. We ended up having to put a blanket over the couch and use our bed pillows instead.

The first thing you notice when looking out the sliding glass doors, was the fact you could only see out of one. The other glass door and window were so badly crusted over, viewing the water was impossible. Secondly, I noticed that this condo IS NOT on the ocean, but in an inlet /waterway. It does have a small beach area, but as best I could determine, the listing does not state it is a waterway.

The wall covering around the door and wall next to the glass doors is peeling off. The glass doors do not close tightly, so the wind howls through them making quite a noise. They do however, provide a stick of wood for you to secure the doors and it helps somewhat. In the kitchen, the eyes on the stove are uneven so a pot or pan has trouble sitting level. The drip pans are nasty and rusted beyond repair. You can forget using the light and fan over the stove, for both have fallen out. Upon entering the bathroom, the vent next to the bathroom mirror had not been cleaned in who knows how long and was full of lint and hair.

The foam mattress was like sleeping in quick sand. It was all memory foam, no springs or support of any type. Hope you like the smell of strong fabric softener, for the bed reeks of it. I tried to contact the owner but have had no response. I have pictures of all of these items, but this site will not let you upload photographs. If VRBO will let you contact me, I will be glad to share them. Sorry, but I must give this rental property a score of D.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Turtle Tide!!! The bed was very comfortable. The view was AMAZING!!! Loved the high table and chairs on the balcony (especially since I am short and can't see over the railing!! Could have been a few more plates and coffee cups/glasses. But that wasn't really a problem....I just kept the dishes washed.

As for cleanliness....it was clean except I had to get on the floor once and should have been swept and mopped under and the rugs for bedroom were under there....why?..not sure. There were plenty of towels for kitchen and bath. Maybe could have used a couple more dish rags for washing dishes and maybe at least two more wash cloths. But l am saying these are SMALL details. Our overall stay was WONDERFUL!!

I did talk to Jim (who was very helpful by the way). He said they might be doing more updates...I have a suggestion of maybe chairs with backs on them for the counter and/or table trays for just more convenient eating....since there was no table. Once again MINOR things!!!

STAY AT TURTLE TIDE.......YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!

AND OH....THE BOATS...W O W!!!!

Thanks Jim for a GREAT stay!!!
