Why Jerry Gundersen chose Puget Sound

It's perfectly situated with a view of Puget Sound, Blake Island and the one and only Mount Rainier. It's a quiet place for reading, writing and dreaming, and a fun place for active sports, too.

What makes this cottage unique

Spectacular scenery, wonderful walks, nearby shopping, eating and entertainment, including a historic movie theater from 1936. Attending an event at The Manor House? Stay in the guest house, which is a short walk down the beach. If you would like to arrive by boat, we can tie you up to our mooring buoy in front of the house.

There is a short trail through the garden that leads to the beach and a nice fire pit area. There are great shops, restaurants and a fabulous day spa just 1/2 mile down the beach to Lynnwood Center. Please ask about pets, mellow dogs are OK. All pets should be on a leash.

Great location.... Great communication with owners

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed there for two nights had a very nice time really enjoyed the serenity and sitting by the water with a bonfire and just relaxing with the view. Enjoyed the local restaurants especially the treehouse Café where the pizza was excellent. Over all an exceptional place to stay!

what summer dreams are made of

  • 5 of 5

This is the kind of vacation families remember for a lifetime. A perfectly-appointed, spotlessly clean space with every amenity you could imagine--fluffy white robes, fresh flowers, complimentary wine and snacks, books and games, all contained in the hush of a peaceful island and the wind through the trees. It's the kind of spot that brings people together in a special way.

A winding path through the garden brings you to a mind-blowing view across peaceful water to magnificent Mount Rainier! The hosts provided a well-stocked fire pit with comfy chairs. You can sit around a crackling fire, telling stories and gazing at the moon.

Extra kudos for: makeup mirror, fluffy white robes, full laundry room, deep tub, fast internet, paddleboards on request.

Such an awesome place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our time so much! The beach, the paddle boards, the views of Mt. Rainier were amazing. If you are looking for a beautiful stay and loads of fun and relaxation this is the place for you. The gift basket of chocolates, wine and excellent reading material were an added bonus. Thank you for such an amazing stay!

Lovely Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Guest House and would love to visit again! The house is tucked into a beautiful garden just a quick stroll up the path from the beach. The house is lovely, very clean and comfortable, and stocked with anything you might want or need. The layout is very clever and great for two, or a family with kiddos. The tall windows let in tons of light, and the garden setting provides plenty of privacy. The beach is lovely and a nice walk from Lynwood Center which is a charming village with shopping and dining. Lots to do and to explore and the Guest House is a perfect spot to call home while you take it all in. We had a wonderful time!

Nice, but too much money for what you get.

  • 3 of 5

The best thing about this property is location. Great access to the beach and just a short walk away from a small business plaza with a few shops and restaurants. A great slice of small town living.

The not so nice: You do not see the beach from your cabin. In fact, the cabin is at the other end of the property, right up against the road, so you get to hear every single car going by. The good thing is that the road was not that busy when we were there.

While it was presented as luxury and family friendly, we have straggled with not having a proper kitchen or a stove. I had to saw through my fresh tomatoes with a butter night, because there was not a single dissent knife available.

Overall I felt like the owners did not really try. The cabin was nice, but past it's prime. A few scratches on the walls, grease stains on the shades, not super clean with a few cobwebs in the corners, wilted flowers in the vase and yes, dog poop on the walkways.

Again, not a super big deal, but when you expect luxury and pay $700 for two nights you just expect better.

Simple things, like there was a gas grill and we were promised that the gas will be provided, but the gas was not there and we had to go into the main house looking for help. Which made me feel uneasy, because the host family makes it very clear they do not want to be bothered by the tenants.

Or we ran out of toilet paper and could not find a refill. So because of all these little things I would not give this place more than 3 stars, all these little things that could and should have been easy taken care of by owner if they just cared a little more about their guests.

We still had fun, but did not feel it was worth the money.

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed the location and we're glad you had fun--thanks for coming to stay! The high season summer rate for an accommodation that sleeps 6 is consistent with or lower than similar properties on the island. On this particular weekend, we had to be away, and the housesitter lacked experience with guest services. The Welcome Booklet (emailed and a copy left in the guesthouse) clearly encourages guests to call or text Jerry if anything is needed. The detailed property description clearly states, "There is a short trail through the garden that leads to the beach and a nice fire pit area." It also states that the kitchen is not equipped with a rangetop or oven. We're sorry the propane was out; thanks for requesting more from our housesitter. Knives and a cutting board are provided, as are extra amenities, including TP. A quick text to Jerry would have helped you locate them. Thanks again for coming to stay.

Place had been won in an auction for out of town parents and brother of a groom. But no one had checked the place prior to our arrival although it is host family's duty to do so. It was inappropriate for three people to stay there. The beds were children sized. There was no privacy. The thin sliding doors provided no quiet. There were inhospitable weird signs all around saying Don't do this, don't do that which made one uncomfortable. We finally got another room at the best Western and want our money back. The walk down to the beach had dog poop all over it. The pool was off limits although it was right in front of the unit.

Owner's Response: Hide your spotted puppies--Cruella deVil is in the house! The weekend in question was a charitable donation from us to support the local land trust, and the auction winner booked it for these guests, so it appears the complaint to the "host family" relates to that, not to the owners. Our detailed description and pictures clearly show the space. Bunk beds are standard twin size. The pool isn't in front of the cottage; it's at the main house and due to liability issues, we can't offer it to guests; this is spelled out in the rental agreement. If by "weird signs" you mean asking folks to recycle and conserve, and to use provided makeup wipes instead of towels (which you ignored--thanks for that), then welcome to Bainbridge. This guest inappropriately asked if one of their party could bunk in the main house, a huge imposition. We tried to work with them, suggesting they take the mattress out of the bunk and close the 4" thick pocket door for privacy. It was impossible to refund a donated weekend, so they'll have to let that go. They left a huge mess in the place--spilled food, filthy dishes, garbage on the floor, unsanitary rubbish next to the trash can in the bathroom. The personal nature of this "review" says more about the guest than the space. Our many 5-star reviews tell a much more accurate story.
