We are a writer and an apparel designer, we are parents to kids and dogs, and we love to share our beautiful spot on the planet. We like hiking, biking, boating, picking mushrooms and blackberries, cooking, reading and good conversation.
Jerry Gundersen purchased this cottage in 2002
It's perfectly situated with a view of Puget Sound, Blake Island and the one and only Mount Rainier. It's a quiet place for reading, writing and dreaming, and a fun place for active sports, too.
Spectacular scenery, wonderful walks, nearby shopping, eating and entertainment, including a historic movie theater from 1936. Attending an event at The Manor House? Stay in the guest house, which is a short walk down the beach.
This is the kind of vacation families remember for a lifetime. A perfectly-appointed, spotlessly clean space with every amenity you could imagine--fluffy white robes, fresh flowers, complimentary wine and snacks, books and games, all contained in the hush of a peaceful island and the wind through the trees. It's the kind of spot that brings people together in a special way.
A winding path through the garden brings you to a mind-blowing view across peaceful water to magnificent Mount Rainier! The hosts provided a well-stocked fire pit with comfy chairs. You can sit around a crackling fire, telling stories and gazing at the moon.
Extra kudos for: makeup mirror, fluffy white robes, full laundry room, deep tub, fast internet, paddleboards on request.
Our family enjoyed our time so much! The beach, the paddle boards, the views of Mt. Rainier were amazing. If you are looking for a beautiful stay and loads of fun and relaxation this is the place for you. The gift basket of chocolates, wine and excellent reading material were an added bonus. Thank you for such an amazing stay!
We had a wonderful stay at the Guest House and would love to visit again! The house is tucked into a beautiful garden just a quick stroll up the path from the beach. The house is lovely, very clean and comfortable, and stocked with anything you might want or need. The layout is very clever and great for two, or a family with kiddos. The tall windows let in tons of light, and the garden setting provides plenty of privacy. The beach is lovely and a nice walk from Lynwood Center which is a charming village with shopping and dining. Lots to do and to explore and the Guest House is a perfect spot to call home while you take it all in. We had a wonderful time!
The best thing about this property is location. Great access to the beach and just a short walk away from a small business plaza with a few shops and restaurants. A great slice of small town living.
The not so nice: You do not see the beach from your cabin. In fact, the cabin is at the other end of the property, right up against the road, so you get to hear every single car going by. The good thing is that the road was not that busy when we were there.
While it was presented as luxury and family friendly, we have straggled with not having a proper kitchen or a stove. I had to saw through my fresh tomatoes with a butter night, because there was not a single dissent knife available.
Overall I felt like the owners did not really try. The cabin was nice, but past it's prime. A few scratches on the walls, grease stains on the shades, not super clean with a few cobwebs in the corners, wilted flowers in the vase and yes, dog poop on the walkways.
Again, not a super big deal, but when you expect luxury and pay $700 for two nights you just expect better.
Simple things, like there was a gas grill and we were promised that the gas will be provided, but the gas was not there and we had to go into the main house looking for help. Which made me feel uneasy, because the host family makes it very clear they do not want to be bothered by the tenants.
Or we ran out of toilet paper and could not find a refill. So because of all these little things I would not give this place more than 3 stars, all these little things that could and should have been easy taken care of by owner if they just cared a little more about their guests.
We still had fun, but did not feel it was worth the money.
Place had been won in an auction for out of town parents and brother of a groom. But no one had checked the place prior to our arrival although it is host family's duty to do so. It was inappropriate for three people to stay there. The beds were children sized. There was no privacy. The thin sliding doors provided no quiet. There were inhospitable weird signs all around saying Don't do this, don't do that which made one uncomfortable. We finally got another room at the best Western and want our money back. The walk down to the beach had dog poop all over it. The pool was off limits although it was right in front of the unit.
We wanted to see the sights in Seattle, but we didn't want to stay in the city. This was perfect! Seattle is a 30 minute ferry ride away. We left the car on the island and walked on the ferry. It was great not to have to worry about dealing with parking in Seattle. We could escape the hustle and bustle of the city at the end of the day and enjoy the relaxed pace of island living. We arrived at the guest house to find a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and cherry tomatoes from the garden. A welcome basket contained wine, chocolates and a novel written by the owner! The guest house is a find! It is extremely well appointed. Great furniture, appealing decor, comfortable beds, great towels and bedding, very warm and inviting! We felt at home right away! The space is very efficient and well planned out. Even with 5 of us staying there, we never felt that we lacked space. This place is private and secluded. A path to the beach meanders through the garden. On the beach, we saw whole shells, agates, jelly fish (that don't sting), ferries, and boats passing by. We enjoyed sitting on beach chairs and soaking in the sun while the boys used paddle boards that owners offered. We took a short walk on the beach to a quaint little community that had a working movie theater built in the 1936, a bakery, restaurants, and shops. The owners' home is nearby. They were such gracious and welcoming hosts. They introduced themselves, encouraged us to use the beach side fire pit and brought us the makings for s'mores! Pretty sweet! We would not have changed a thing! This is a gem and we can't wait to return!
We are located on the south end of Bainbridge Island with the best no bank beach on the island and views of Blake Island and Mount Rainier. Our beach is on Rich Passage and the Bremerton ferry passes by every hour.
