Located in Historic District on Slope above Downtown San Diego, beautiful Queen Ann Victorian Private Unit accommodates 4 people. Beautifully Decorated Featuring, Barbecue, Gazebo, Fire Pit & Laundry facility with Historic Cistern Basement.
This Multi-Unit Queen Ann Victorian was built in the early 1800's and was known in those days as “The Kennedy House”. Each self contained and completely private unit has been upgraded to the highest standards and redesigned with their own unique characteristics. This unit features a converted temperature controlled cistern basement. Formerly used by its residents to collect rain water for cooking and bathing, it now provides easy access to beach chairs, a boogie board, an ironing board and enfant high chair. The main building as well as each unit are accessed via electronic key pads, so no keys are required. The property consists of 3 buildings one of which was formerly a horse barn. Built above today's current downtown formerly known to residents as “New Town” it is surrounded by Historic buildings of the period.

The proximity of this property to all of the best that San Diego has to offer is very compelling. It's location in a historic district above downtown offers easy access to the energy of the city, beaches and airport while offering privacy and easy parking.
Bus transit stops are located in and out of downtown within a half block of property on both sides of Market St. Access to 2 major freeways are located within 1 minute driving to of property.
I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.

It is our hope that our guests will appreciate the attention to detail and uniqueness of design that has been incorporated into every aspect of this property.
This property is strategically located close to most of San Diego's most popular destinations. It's central location and proximity to a newly revitalized downtown, airport, beaches and parks affords our guests the best possible experience while visiting San Diego.
I think I'll be repeating much of what has already been written about this property. The description and pictures as noted on VRBO are representative of the property so there won't be any surprises.
Owner/Staff: The owner, John, was terrific before and during our stay. Very helpful and responsive. His staff always friendly.
The Unit -- on the ground floor with its own little sitting area outside, quiet, bedroom a good size with lots of closet space, high ceilings. TV and Netflix. The internet was very good the entire 13 nights we stayed. Kitchen has all you would need to cook.
Location -- we loved that we could walk to many attractions; or driving to major attractions was easy and quick. For example - 15 minute walk to Gaslamp District; 25 to 30 minutes to the waterfront. From this you can walk to Seaport Village, USS Midway, Maritime Museum, Waterfront, etc. It took us less than 10 minutes to drive to Balboa Park and the Zoo. We went to a football game and that was also a10 minute drive. Petco is also do-able as a walk. You can walk to restaurants/bars as well. I'd recommend Hodad's on Broadway for a burger - about a 20 minute walk.
John provided 2 summaries of excursions -- the one to Torrey Pines / Mount Soledad was great as it provided a local's helpful hint about parking at the Gilderport versus the Park -- we avoided tons of parking issues at the Park.
Parking at the house: we never had an issue with parking. If not directly in front of the house, always closeby. Didn't have any security concerns.
General - yes, you will see a few homeless individuals if you walk but we never had any problems. Only 1 or 2 approached for money, and they were polite and did not give us any reason for concern.
Overall - We really enjoyed our stay at this property and in this unit. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it; and no doubt will recommend it to our friends who are thinking of visiting San Diego.
The location is great and the apartment was very cute and clean. The apartment isn't large, but it's very comfortable. Including the extras, there were 6 pillows for the beds and an extra blanket and comforter for the pull-out (sheets already on it). The apartment had everything we needed, felt safe (we were 3 young women), and parking was very easy. Regarding what some reviews said about the homeless population - we never saw any homeless people near the property. 5-6 blocks away there are some areas where numerous homeless people have tents set up, but it's not right by the property and was never a problem at all.
It was easy to get to different areas - Gaslamp, Balboa Park, and Coronado were all short trips. Even La Jolla didn't take long to get to - but it did take about 45 min coming back at rush hour. For exploring different parts of San Diego, it felt like the perfect home base. The property was great, and I'd definitely go back again. The outdoor space was really cute, we just didn't use it because it got too chilly at night in December.
This was our first time to stay at a VRBO and we were a bit skeptical especially not knowing the San Diego area, but much to our surprise we were impressed by the process and how easy it was to book our stay. Once we arrived to our location, again, we were afraid that we had made the wrong selection simply because it was downtown, but again, we were impressed on how clean our unit was and the proximity to downtown was awesome! Our unit was so cute, comfortable, well maintained, extremely clean and it was stocked perfectly with the necessities for our stay. It was so nice to have a coffee pot, coffee, and creamer available for morning coffee which we enjoyed every morning. The owner, John, checked on us, to make sure everything was going well. We were relaxed and felt right at home. The Victorian home has separate private units and it was SO safe and enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here; I know we will stay here again on our next trip to San Diego. The owner is not a person that is lurking around to make sure all is going well, he just emails you to check on you for anything that you might need. Thank you John for allowing us to stay there and enjoy our stay in the great city of San Diego with it's friendly and accommodating people. And, our Uber service was phenomenal! Again, thanks from Tom & Sylvia in Texas!
Clean, as described and a very nice place to stay. Very good queen bed with nice outdoor areas to sit and relax.
Parking can be a problem requiring parking around the corner or across the street. Transitional neighborhood with a unique café on the corner. I would recommend .
Great location to visit San Diego, especially if you have a car to get around. Clean house, didn't have any trouble with it. Would stay here again!
Our property is located immediately adjacent to and on the slope above Downtown San Diego which has become the center of energy for all of San Diego. Restaurants and bars of every conceivable type, shopping, theaters, the library, the airport, San Diego Municipal Golf Course, Golden Hill Park, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the Del Coronado Hotel, Beaches, Major Freeways and the Airport are all very close and accessible.
