Sitting on 2.5 acres and 100 ft of frontage on Rapid River this large log home is within paddling distance to the famous Torch Lake sandbar. You get the best of both worlds with this property. You can feel like you are a million miles away from everything yet still being so close. We are at a point in the river where no more motorized vehicles can pass so it is quiet and peaceful. Around the corner is the sandbar where you can anchor for the day, grab a burger at the Burger Barge or even order a pizza to be delivered to your boat from Fabianos.
The Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed is a seventy-five mile-long waterway consisting of fourteen lakes and connecting rivers including what National Geographic ranked the third most beautiful lake in the world: Torch Lake. We are also near many snowmobile and ORV trail heads as well as a short drive to several ski resorts. If shopping, restaurants, golf, wineries and breweries are what you desire we are just a 20-minute drive into Traverse City. There are beautiful hiking and snowshoeing trails out the back door or just minutes away in the National Forest, Skegemog or Grass River Natural Areas or Sand Lakes Quiet Area.
The name “Torch Lake” was derived from translation from the Ojibwa name Was-wa-gon-ong meaning 'Place of the Torches', referring to the practice of the local Native American population who once used torches at night to attract fish for harvesting. We felt it was fitting to name our home “Noopiming” which is Ojibwa for “in the woods”.
Noopiming is large and open. Upstairs there is a large master with stained glass windows, skylights, king size bed and an en suite full bathroom with jet tub. Outside of the master is a large loft with a second living area and a trundle bed. On the main level, adjacent to the 2nd full bath, is a bedroom room with a full size bed. One more bedroom rests at the foot of the stairs with a bunk bed (full on the bottom and twin on top). All bedrooms have dressers, closets with hangers and ceiling fans. We provide all bedding, pillows, bath towels, kitchen towels and beach towels.
The full size kitchen is equipped with anything you would need during your stay. The downstairs living room has a 40” TV with blu-ray player and WiFi. We have a library of DVD’s for you to use as well as books and games.
Please feel free to ask us any questions. It is always a bummer to show up for a well-earned vacation and feel like what you are renting is not what you saw in pictures.
My husband and I are both Michiganders who love to travel the world and feel blessed to come home to such a beautiful place.
Chelsea purchased this lodge in 2013
I grew up spending my summers at my grandparents cabin on Lake Skegemog. Though it is my favorite place in the world it is not very accessible to someone in a wheelchair. Our search for this home began with trying to find a rental for ourselves. Trying to find an accessible cabin let alone find one without steps or barriers to the waterfront was a challenge. While we cannot yet claim that this home is ADA compliant, that is our goal. The main floor including the bathroom, both bedrooms, and doorways/hallways are accessible to someone in a wheelchair and there is a ramp in the garage for easy access in and out of the house.
The house itself is open, spacious and very clean. It is also stocked with books, games, outdoor toys and furniture. All you need is your suitcase.
My friends and I recently stayed at this house. It's a beautiful home and located in a great area. Very spacious and we all enjoyed the space. That said, when things went wrong, we did not get great customer service at all. We had 10 people including two small kids at the house and part of the selling point was having major appliances, especially a washer and dryer since kids go through laundry quickly. The washer broke before we arrived and the owners looked into fixing it but basically concluded that nothing could be done so we were out of luck. They offered to pay for our laundry (~$50) but we would have to drive 15-20 minutes into Traverse than another 15-20 back to get it done. This was a pretty big hassle, especially when on vacation with children. When we suggested they pick up the laundry and handle getting it cleaned for us since the washer was broke, they declined.
I also was able to text one of the owners leading up to and during the first couple days of our trip. She was always responsive until the washer broke at which point she stopped replying to my texts. I did get a call from another owner but he basically just said they tried hard but couldn't fix the issue so we were out of luck.
This house is not cheap and they advertise a full array of functioning appliances but the lack of responsiveness and the weak gesture to pay for our laundry (but still making us go into town to do it ourselves) was disappointing. We will likely not stay with Noopiming again due to the poor customer service.
Our stay at Noopiming Lodge was amazing! The lodge was clean and spacious with attention to detail in every room. We enjoyed watching the ducks on the river as well as kayaking. The kitchen was easy to navigate and was equipped with anything and everything we needed. Beautiful wooded views from each window. Our group was large (10 people) there was plenty of space for everyone. We will definitely be returning!!
My husband and I have stayed at Noopiming Lodge several times over the past couple of months, and each time it was absolutely fabulous! It is a very comfortable, welcoming, clean, and extremely spacious place - plus it has all the comforts of home and then some. Plenty of room inside and out, it's a great family vacation place! Everything was as posted on VRBO! We highly recommend it to anyone that wants a great place to stay!
We are very close to the Torch Lake Sandbar, National Forest, Skegemog Swamp Pathway, Grass River Natural Area, Seven Bridges, Sand Lakes Quiet Area, ORV and snowmobile trails. We have many guests from the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival stay with us every year.
