No matter the season, this quiet, secluded location with trees, mountain views, and the sound of Gore Creek, located only 30 feet off the back deck, will fill the bill for your next vacation. You can ski any of the 11 Colorado resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper Mt., Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Steamboat Springs, Aspen's three mountains, and Ski Cooper) and still drive home for the night to a cozy fire and comfortable king-size beds.
This is a property with only 38 townhomes, many of which are lived in by full-time residents. The covered bus stop for the free Town of Vail shuttle is only a two-minute level walk from the front door. (The pool house hot tub is even closer!) A three-minute ride gets you to the Cascade Ski Lift (a quick and easy place to start and/or end your ski day); ride a little longer and get off at Lionshead or the Vail Transportation Center and Vail Village itself, offering all of the shopping, eating, and fun places that only Vail can offer.
If you choose, however, to stay in, you will also be content. Upon entering, you will know immediately that this is a premium unit. Being an end unit means that most days, natural sunlight fills this home. From the first view of the antler chandelier to the custom made natural wood bedroom furniture, you experience a 'mountain home' feeling. Owners intend to retire here themselves, so great care has gone into choices such as furniture, artwork, and window coverings. A modern kitchen, replete with all of the cooking and serving items you should need, opens onto a dining area furnished with a dining table that seats six (a chair can be added for a seventh person), and a unique wooden sideboard. The wood-burning fireplace is a centerpiece for a spacious and comfortable living area. There is plenty of seating space, but two comfortable leather recliner/rockers will quickly become favorites while reading, watching television on a big-screen high-definition television, or just watching Gore Creek flow by off the back deck. In the summer, enjoy the large deck in comfortable deck furniture and cook meals outside on a convenient gas grill (grill relocated to home's front sunny, covered area during winter). A powder room and large utility room with full-size washer and dryer complete the downstairs. Go upstairs and find yourself in a lovely sitting/television area that can transform into a third bedroom if needed. The day bed, constructed specifically for this room, can, with the trundle, either make out to a king size bed or two twins. An antique armoire in this room makes a great place to unpack your bags. In the back bedroom, you will immediately be drawn to the view from a wall of windows overlooking Gore Creek; crack one of the casement windows open to hear the stream quietly running all night long. This is an especially large bedroom as it has been remodeled to include the upstairs deck space that was once there. The front bedroom has the advantage of being 'ensuite,' with its own private full bathroom. There are two full bathrooms upstairs, with excellent large soaking tubs and modern showerheads. Bars have been installed in the tubs to aid in getting in and out if needed. All three bedroom areas have their own flat-screen TVs; the center area also has a VCR/DVD player.
In the winter, walk or take the free shuttle to the Safeway or City Market; other seasons, you may choose to walk or bicycle. The townhome is a three to four minute walk to the Vail Recreation Trail, a fun path where walkers, runners, and bikers can enjoy a trip into Vail along beautiful Gore Creek. Bikers may choose to ride all the way to Avon or over Vail Pass to Copper Mt., Dillon, or Breckenridge for a good workout. The outdoor pool is seasonal, but the enclosed hot tub is year-round and only a one-minute walk across the parking lot.
Rates are lower for this unit due to owner management. Owner management is visible throughout the home in a personalized, cozy environment, rather than a sterile cookie-cutter appearance. Signature furniture pieces, personal artwork, and luxurious bathrooms all point to ownership who also enjoy their visits here!

Jim first fell in love with Colorado as a cadet at the Air Force Academy in the 1970s. He brought Signe, a Baylor graduate and high school teacher, here before they married in 1976. After seven years in the USAF, Jim separated from the Air Force and went to work as an airline pilot. When we realized that we always wanted our three sons to want to go on vacation with us, it seemed the ideal move to buy a vacation home in Vail. It was the right decision. The boys loved Vail as children, and now as grown men with families and friends, it is our favorite place to congregate as a family!

We purchased Ptarmigan Townhome #15 (vrbo 118805) in 1990 and have enjoyed it ever since then as a place for ourselves and our friends as well as a vacation rental. From the very beginning, we knew that if #16 ever went on the market, we were interested. It was an end unit, therefore having more windows and receiving more light than interior units. It had been owned by a Vail/Beaver Creek builder and he and his wife had remodeled it and in doing so, given it a uniqueness. When it went on the market in the summer of 2013, we moved quickly to purchase it. Then we began to add our own touches to the property with furnishings that spoke to us -- signature pieces that reminded us of the Colorado mountains and our home. We intend to live in Unit #16 when Jim retires from the airlines.
We have loved Unit #15 (vrbo 118805) for over 20 years, but at times have needed more space for extended family and friends. Having Unit #16 makes it possible for us, as well as guests, to enjoy the mountains in larger groups and be right next door to one another.
We have furnished #16 together with furniture built specifically for the home and signature one-of-a-kind pieces. Each room is special to us; and we believe that you will feel the love and care that we feel for and have put into this home.
Lastly, being located on Gore Creek always makes for beautiful views, no matter the season.
What a remarkable place! The creek running by the condo was mesmerizing. The location was convenient to everything. Everything that was needed inside the condo was provided. We had the added bonus of meeting, Jim,
the owner. He is committed to making the place the very best! We liked it so much we have signed up for next year.
The highes recommendation I can give a place is that I don't want to leave. I am sitting on the deck of unit 16 typing this note and already planning our return visit. A wonderful home, fully equipped kitchen, and great beds. This place has truly provided the get-away we needed so badly. This townhome backing to Gore Creek was terrific. Almost every day I would see ducks feeding in the creek from the rear windows: the secluded and natural setting added a lot to the experience. Jim and Signe were very prompt in responding to any questions I had, they were also friendly and helped when I needed a place to mount bindings and restaurant recommendations. The home also has a lot of natural wood in the window casements and upstairs beams, very attractive! I would recommend this to anyone coming to Vail, it's just a very nice place to spend your vacation.
This is our second time here and once again, we come home with nothing but amazing memories. Jim and Sig cannot be thanked enough for this wonderful home and it's with no reservations that we recommend their rental. All the touches are here - a full kitchen, comfortable beds, excellent location - a place which feels loved and very much like home. Communication with the owners is easy and they respond quickly; absolutely an ease to deal with. The condo is extremely clean, well situated and convenient. The bus stop is truly just a few hundred steps away with shopping and restaurants close by. We even had the pleasure of meeting Jim this time as he was in town to make sure the condos were ready for holiday occupancy. To us, that dedication to ensuring your clients are happy and comfortable speaks volumes. Our only complaint? We'd like to stay longer!
We had the pleasure of renting this unit and the adjoining unit for our extended family. The unit is steps away from the free shuttle, and very comfortable. As with any property ownership, sometimes there are repair issues. When we advised the owner of the issue, repairmen appeared that night. Couldn't have asked for more. We have been coming to Vail for about 10 years and never repeated a stay at any other unit. I guess it says it all when I say that we have inquired about staying in this unit next year. With such a large group, eating out is not an option. The kitchens were well stocked and shopping was minutes away. Taking the free shuttle into Lionshead took about 6 minutes. If you time it right, you can be on the Lionshead gondola in 10 minutes from the time you leave the door. Thanks Jim.
This was our 4th trip to Vail (we come from England) and is the third year running we have stayed in one of these owners properties in West Vail - that tells you we like them. There were 4 adults in our party. Previous 2 years we were next door in unit 15 which is also great. I would endorse other reviewers comments about the quality and comfort of the condo and how well it is fitted out. The other key attraction to us is location and ease of access to other facilities. The stop for the Lionshead shuttle is 2 minutes walk away; great hot tub nearby and easy access to grocery stores and a variety of eating places just on the other side of i70 - no need to eat out in Vail in the evening if you don't to. I am sure we will be back again a few more times.

Cancellations made after balance-due date, you will be refunded funds collected from rerenting cancelled nights minus any loss we incur, i.e. our costs for special feature advertising (filling unit on short notice), loss of rental income by having to offer property at a special rate.
