Joshua Tree House Rental Photos and Description

Couples refuge, 1200 sq ft home; 1 bedroom, 2 bath, dining & living room, 2+acre

Unlike a lot of the properties in Joshua Tree, the streets are paved all the way to the entrance. 'Desert Sky Compound' - an Artist's Haven and Awesome Couples Refuge. Spacious 1200 square foot home - high ceilings, an open floor plan, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, 2 rear patio areas plus a front porch for enjoying the view or evening breeze. This unique custom built home is located on 2.3 acres with local wildlife, Joshua Trees, landscaped walkways and dozens of unique types of cactus blooming throughout the year. The rental rate includes the cleaning fee & all amenities listed. (One night rentals are available at higher rate.)

Full kitchen with 4 burner stove, oven, full size refrigerator, toaster, dishes, bowls, pots, pans and all utensils. (Olive oil, coffee maker including coffee & filters, teas, sugar, salt & pepper provided.)

100% Solar power (yet also on the “grid” for constant power), central heating, air conditioning, wood burning stove, ceiling fans. WiFi and movie DVD's and music CD's with monitor for your viewing or listening pleasure. Games, cards, backgammon. (No cable television, no phone.)

From our property atop a hill you get beautiful night village views as well as of the Southeastern Mojave Desert mountains. Two sides of the property are walled so you really feel like you are in your own private sanctuary with rabbits, quails and road runners who frequent the grounds – as well as doves, chipmunks, ground squirrels, wren, lizards, humming birds. Once the sun goes down, the property is visited by bats, occasional bobcats and owls. You will be amazed at the clear and vibrant starry skies – the milky way is visible here along with all the other constellations.

Call it a retreat, an awesome couples refuge, sanctuary, Artist's haven, oasis, getaway or hideaway – whatever word you choose will describe this beautiful vacation rental. (A second home, owner occupied, adjoins the vacation home by a soundproofed cement wall, and a 6 foot block and fence privacy wall separates the vacation home backyard, all of the guests have positively commented on the great privacy, especially with 2.3 acres.)

Location – Location – Location:

We're 5.6 miles from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, 1234 square miles, with groves of Joshua Trees, incredible gigantic boulders and some of the best rock climbing in the world. If you don't feel like driving, then a minutes walk up the street (900 yards) is where you'll find a trailhead (Wildlife Habitat Restoration area) to wander - climbable rocky hills, 360 degree views of Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms and Joshua Tree National Park.

Joshua Tree Retreat Center is 2.9 miles (about 5 minutes) away. About 2 miles from our Getaway is “Downtown” Joshua Tree which has art galleries, a yoga studio, adventure & hiking outfitter stores, a bakery, gift shops, many restaurants including great burgers and great vegan fare, even a (remarkably good) pizza parlor as well as other restaurants including Thai, a saloon and home style coffee shop. A National Park Visitors Center is located right off the main drag, so you can park there and check out the shops before you head to our backyard, Joshua Tree National Park.

Just about 40 minutes away is Palm Springs! If you do venture to Palm Springs for the day then consider going to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Air museum, The Living Desert or VillageFest (Thursday nights).

OTHER: If you're feeling adventurous - Salton Sea is less than 90 minutes away. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is 2 hours away. The Cabazon outlets and Morongo Casino are about 40 minutes away. Lake Havasu and it's "London Bridge" is 3 hours away. In Laughlin you'll find casino's such as Harrah's & The Golden Nugget plus tourist attractions including the Davis Dam and the Colorado River.

There are many many great hikes in Joshua Tree National Park and the Visitors Center (6554 Park Blvd) can guide you to the best ones based on your interests and hiking ability.

Restaurants – minutes from the house include:

Natural Sister Cafe (Health Food)

61695-B Twentynine Palms Hwy;

Crossroads Cafe & Tavern (Local coffee shop, homemade food);

Park Rock Cafe (next to the visitor center);

About Pam and John

Owners John and Pam both work in the Entertainment industry - Pam in television, John in features although they are now both semi-retired.

Pam and John purchased this house in 2010

Why Pam and John chose California Desert

They love the desert and the fresh, clean air and natural surroundings and wildlife. Best of all - the lack of city crowds and traffic! Joshua Tree is really magical.

We take pride in our property and are responsive to any of our renters needs. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between.

What makes this house unique

We love the house and vacation home because it was custom built with extra thick walls, has passive solar features, high ceilings and is in a quiet and secluded part of town. We love being able to walk 10 minutes to hike or just sit on the patio and watch the abundant wildlife. And because we're high up, we even have a view of the city lights.

This is our third stay at Pam and John's home & as we tell them each time, we look forward to retuning next year! We are so grateful that they share this space.

Close to the national park, local shops & easy hiking at the mojave desert land trust just up the road. Very relaxing, comfortable living space and a wonderful yard to watch the sunrise and set. Thank you so much!

Great stay at Joshua Tree

  • 4 of 5

This house is very comfortable and well maintained. Tranquil, private, very pleasant. The owners make everything about staying here easy, and provide lots of helpful information. The large property is very nice for relaxing outside and getting that high desert feeling. Perfect base for exploring the park and the area's towns, attractions, and oddities.

Lovely, well-kept and quiet getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Pam and John,

Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely vacation home. It was comfortable, stylish and meticulously clean. We really loved looking at all the paintings and artbooks you had in the living room, and the garden in the back was a great place to have morning coffee (and see all the birds and rabbits that came to visit). It was also conveniently close to Joshua Tree NP, where we went for daily hikes, and to town afterwards for some well-deserved meals. Everything about the house and your instructions/emails before we came were thoughtful and helpful - it was a great place to enjoy a quiet, relaxing weekend. We would love to stay again next time we are visiting Joshua Tree!

A perfect desert paradise

  • 5 of 5

We picked this location because we wanted to visit Joshua Tree National Park, but we loved it so much we wished we were staying a week. The home was very clean and beautifully decorated. We were blown away by the spaciousness of the home - a complete well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living room with inviting sofa, lounge chairs and fireplace (which of course we didn't use since it was May, but would be cozy in the winter). Very comfortable bed - we're going to get a mattress like theirs. Bright, roomy bathroom with 2 sinks and 2 windows, plus a second half bath. Plenty of towels and kitchen supplies. We enjoyed looking at all the photos and artwork by the owner. Didn't have time to use the grill, play the games, watch the DVDs, or read the books that were available. Wifi was very reliable. We were encouraged to explore the serene quiet property, 2.3 acres, which was like a desert botanical garden. The owners have done a beautiful job with the numerous blooming desert plants, rock-lined trails, benches, bird feeders, etc. We had the feeling of being in our own little desert paradise for 3 days. Sitting on the secluded deck having our morning coffee or evening wine was the epitome of peace, calm, quiet, and serenity - watching the sunrise, sunset, or the occasional bunny. The owners are right next door, but we saw them only once. They are friendly, down to earth, accommodating and exceptionally helpful with tips for where to hike, eat, shop for groceries, etc. I cannot recommend this home highly enough. We would stay again in a minute, and if we get back to Joshua Tree, we will.

Beautiful and transporting!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Joshua Tree for the first time and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Trust me when I say this place is PRISTINE. The house was beautiful and so quiet. We really felt like we were in another part of the world. The backyard was such a nice, peaceful place to drink our coffee in the morning. I love that, if we wanted to, we could have never left the property and cooked all of our meals in the house. Pam and John stock their kitchen with EVERYTHING you will need for a nice sit-down dinner. The place is also not far from the national park. It's really in the best location.

This place is wonderful. I would definitely come back and stay here next time we find ourselves in Joshua Tree.
