Wonderful Trip!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I just spent 11 nights in Steve's villa. It was perfect for us! Steve's driver was waiting for us at the airport and took us to the grocery store on out way to the villa. The place itself is quite nice. It has an upgraded kitchen, TVs in the living room and bedroom, and great pool/beach toys! It was great to have a villa telephone (on which we could call the US) and wifi available for our use at all times. The pools are just steps away and so is the beach. And Atlantis is a 5-7 minute walk away. I would definitely rent this villa again.

Paradise on Paradise Island

  • 5 of 5

I'm naturally pretty skeptical, so when I saw all the great reviews for Steve's condo I almost thought they were too good to be true. Rest assured fellow skeptics, they are not too good to be true--Steve really is "the man" and his condo is a hidden gem just seconds from the beach.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. Due to her restricted diet we needed a place with a kitchen to cook our own meals and Steve's condo had everything we needed (and more). Steve also arranged for his driver, Marsha, to pick us up from the airport when we arrived. Marsha was prompt and professional when picking us up from the airport and condo. We stopped at the grocery store and were able to stock up for the week in one trip. As other reviewers have mentioned certain imported foods can be pretty expensive but fruit and other locally grown produce is very affordable.

The onsite restaurant, Viola's, was delicious and offers a decent glimpse of Bahamian cuisine. I'd definitely recommend grabbing a meal here at least once.

We didn't actually end up spending as much time by the pools like I thought we would. Instead we spent most of our time in the beautiful water on the beach, which combined with the ocean breeze made the sometimes 100+ heat index feel like a perfect 70 degree day. There is a lot to see on the island, but I'd definitely recommend visiting the Versailles Gardens and French Cloister just down the road (opposite direction of Atlantis). The gardens are very well maintained and only a short trip away. Atlantis in the other direction offers plenty of shopping and dining options as well. We were able to continue our Starbucks addiction thanks to the 2 different locations within Atlantis (10-15 minute walk).

The power went out for a few hours one of the days we were there (we were told the entire island was affected-including New Providence), and once for maybe 10 seconds while we were in the grocery store. The dishwasher wasn't working for a portion of our stay but Steve had the broken part shipped from the states and fixed before we were gone. Steve also worked with us to provide a partial refund for a portion of our trip after we had already paid in full (we had asked if we could shorten our trip less than a month beforehand and he gladly helped make it happen).

Overall it was a much needed vacation and we're both looking forward to coming back soon!

Best for a couple; okay for family of 3-4

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four really enjoyed our stay in this condo. It has an updated kitchen, quaint patio, and cozy king bed with ample pillows. Our kids, ages 8 & 10, really enjoyed the pools. We rarely went to the beach because of that, but the beach sand was soft and groomed and the water clear when we went. We enjoyed eating breakfast out by the back pool's extended patio, overlooking the ocean. The condo comes with two adult-sized boogie boards, some snorkel sets, a beach chair, a raft, a circular inflatable tube, pool noodle, and a small cooler. The view through the windows is of the larger sized condos across the sidewalk, but it's a short walk to see a beautiful view of the ocean. The only issue we ran into was that the second twin air mattress couldn't be inflated due to lack of batteries in the pump, so we had one of the kids sleeping with us each night. Thankfully it was a king bed! I would say it's a great condo for a family if you don't mind sleeping in one room; the living room below doesn't offer much space for an air mattress, but a kid could sleep on the couch. Would be best suited for a couple.

The property is nice with fun architectural details. We appreciated there were people working there if we had any questions. It neighbors a public access to the beach, which is unfortunately littered with garbage and has some pushy salespeople operating out of it (pushing banana boat rides, jet ski rentals). Some of their boats and jet skis came uncomfortably close to us while swimming. If Sunrise put in a buoyed swimming area (all other resorts have them), that would help. Their outdoor shower needs fixing and barely works; we brought a lot of sand into pools and condo because of this. We walked to Atlantis several times and it took 5-10 minutes to get to restaurants and shops there. For groceries: You can take a ferry boat from dock under the inbound bridge (there are signs by that bridge) for $4/person into downtown Nassau; it drops you off by a grocery store (across from Burger King). Or, Super Value over outbound bridge and up a few blocks has best deals and selection; recommend taking a cab there.

Tip overall to all travelers: Discuss cab fare before you take a taxi. They supposedly have standard fares, but they don't use meters. The driver that picked us up from airport (ended up not being Steve's driver but one of her associates) charged us about $50 when we had thought it would be closer to $35 (this was more the standard fare).

Owner's Response: Hi Carrie and Fred, Glad you had a great time at my place on Paradise Island. It was a pleasure to host you. A few things about your review that I wanted to bring to your attention. If you had to use the two blow up mattresses, you must not have been aware of the Queen Sleeper Sofa downstairs. The sofa pulls out from underneath and is not your conventional sleeper sofa but it is more comfortable as there are no mattress springs. With regard to the second blow up mattress, someone must have bought it as I only have one really good one that blows up quickly by plugging it into the electrical outlet. With regard to taxi fares, I agree 100% that you should find out how much a taxi fare will be before you get into the cab as unfortunately some taxi drivers do try to take advantage at times. With regard to your fare from the airport to Sunrise or the Atlantis where you first stayed, the posted government rates are as follows: $34 for the first two people, $3 per additional person, $2 for a large suitcase and $1 for a medium suitcase or carry on. Backpacks are free. Therefore, you should have been charged a total of $44, which is which I think you told me you were charged after speaking with you today. I want to thank you for your wonderful review as it really helps me with renting my place out. I always appreciate everyones' comments so as I can be as good a host as possible. You and your family are always welcome back to my condo here on Paradise Island. Best regards and many thanks again, Steve

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this vacation. The Sunrise Beach Villa was very comfortable and in a great location. The on site restaurant Violas was perfect for lunch, dinner, and salsa dancing lessons! We could walk everywhere from this location including the beach, the ferry dock, the Atlantis and the Sivananda yoga retreat. Steve is a wonderful host and helped with any detail we asked about. The condo is clean, comfortable and quiet and the staff at Sunrise was so nice. We ordered groceries from Food2Go, our order was delivered right on time and they had everything we wanted.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week at Steve's condo in early February, and found everything just as explained and pictured. The condo is clean and comfortable with a full kitchen and is very close to the beach. We wanted a quiet get-away, and that's what we got. We particularly appreciated the privacy at the condo and the uncrowded beach. We walked a lot - on the beach, around the Atlantis property, through the Atlantis shopping village and even across the bridge and into Nassau. We enjoyed some excellent meals in Nassau and on Paradise Island at many of the restaurants Steve suggested. We ate a couple of meals at Viola's on the property and they were very good. Steve was an excellent host - very responsive and informative. This was a great choice for us!

Nice place, all the reviews and pictures tell the story.

  • 5 of 5

After searching for a new place to visit, we ended up reserving Steves condo. Everything was as promised. If I was to pick the best part of this stay it would be the beach, soft sand and warm water. The only issue was that Steve did not tell us he was a Montreal Canadians fan, that might have been a deal breaker, I had a hard time drinking my coffee out of the Canadians mug, or using the koosie, or looking at the picture in the bedroom. GO Bruins!

It's a 5 minute walk to the Atlantis Hotel and a 10 minute walk to the Atlantis Marina Village, where there are many shops and restaurants, as well as a Starbucks. It is also a 10 minute walk to a small shopping plaza which has a convenience store, liquor store, souvenir shops, family restaurant (Anthony's) and a Dunkin Donuts.
