Our first trip to Amsterdam on our honeymoon 37 years ago. Since then we had 2 great kids and enjoyed numerous vacations to many different countries. The years went by & before we knew it we became 'empty nesters'. That's when we decided to take a month long vacation in Amsterdam. My husband works from home so it was important that we rent an apartment with high speed internet so he would be able to take care of business while on vacation. We had the most amazing time that we decided to return the following year. After 4 years of doing this, we decided it was time for us to buy our own place. We now spend about 4 months a year in Amsterdam.
Dee purchased this apartment in 2013
We choose this apartment because it is located in a beautiful & safe neighborhood. The central location makes it very easy to walk or take a tram to all the historic sights and museums in Amsterdam. There are so many wonderful restaurants and outdoor cafe's. The shops that line The 9 Streets are truly unique.
The apartment is cozy & charming, There is a canal view looking toward the Prinsengracht, The terrace has a table & chairs for you to sit and enjoy an outdoor meal.
If you're planning a vacation in Amsterdam and would like to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel, this is the place for you. This clean modern unit has recently been remodeled under new ownership and has everything you'll need for a great holiday. Perfect for couples. The queen bed is comfy and is separate from the living area, which we like. The kitchen is fully kitted with modern appliances. Great bathroom with large shower and plenty of hot water. Large windows let in the light and provide a great view across to the canal. Flawless high speed wi-fi. Safe, clean, quiet. But the best part is the location. Because of its central location, we were able to walk to everything and never once had to use the tram, though it stops just across the street. The market is just down the street and there are cafes and restaurants everywhere. And if you shop around, I think you'll find the rates are quite fair. The owner always responded quickly to my e-mails while planning the trip and the on-site manager, Sylvia, lives nearby and was always available. Absolutely no complaints. We have stayed in many VRBO units around the world and this one is as good as any we've been in.
A lovely little apartment in a great part of the city. You get a view of the Prinsengracht, the Westerkerk, and you are a stone's throw from the Anne Frank House. You can pick up a canal boat tour, the 10 tram (which runs the semi-circle of the downtown area) or just walk to the Dam. There is a lovely wine shop downstairs, a great Thai restaurant around the corner (Saon), a great dutch place (Bij Ons), a great pancake place (Anna's Pancakes) and many more restaurants, and a grocery just down the street (Albert Heijn).
Plus, Sylvia, the manager who will greet you, is a doll. She reminds me of Isabella Rossellini. :-)
If I win the lottery, I'm going to buy the place.
The photos are a very good representation of the apartment, and everything about the apartment and our stay was great. Loved having the Nepresso machine (now I want one too). The location was fantastic - the proximity to the tram stop made it easy for us to get around the city. The only thing to note is for people with mobility issues is there is a short, but somewhat steep set of stairs leading up to the apartment. This was not an issue for us. Thank you Donna for the map & for all your tips, they came in very handy! I would definitely stay again.
Walk to the Anne Frank Museum, Westertkerk, shop the Nine Streets, try Dutch Genever at a brown cafe, it's a very short walk to the tram so you have easy access to anywhere in the city.
