About Susan St. Louis

I grew up in a small town in Connecticut, and married my college sweetheart, who is a doctor. We raised three girls, homeschooled them, coached youth soccer, and now spend our time studying languages, cooking meals for friends, trying to stay fit, and volunteering for medical missionary trips whenever possible. We have used VRBO properties many times, ourselves, and we find it a much better way to travel than to stay in hotels. We hope you will enjoy staying in our beautiful new Palm Springs casa.

Susan St. Louis purchased this house in 2013

Why Susan St. Louis chose Palm Springs

Casa de Colores (House of Colors) has been lovingly decorated with all new furniture, beautiful art and accessories in the colors of the desert to make your stay comfortable, enjoyable and unforgettable. Each bedroom has its own outside door, with high quality wooden shutters that completely darken the rooms when fully closed. All linens and towels are new, and will be regularly replaced as needed, to ensure comfort and satisfaction. The living room opens onto the front courtyard, with its mountain views, and allows you to 'bring the outdoors in with you.' The game table in the living room nook will lure you to find out who has the best poker face. Full sets of dishes, pots and pans, cooking utensils and basic supplies will provide you with all the things you'll need to cook as much or as little as you desire. The pool and spa will draw you to spend time in the back yard, but you will also have three separate lounging and eating areas there in which to spend your time. Whether you are one couple, a large family or 2 or 3 couples vacationing together, you will never lack for comfortable, private places to sit and talk. We want this house to be the best place you've ever vacationed in, and we will continue to try to make it worthy of that label.

What makes this house unique

When we saw this house we fell in love with the quality of the construction, and the wonderful architectural elements like the round windows in the front entryway and master bath, the foyer tower, the arched entryway and front door, the colored tile floors throughout, and the exquisite wooden beams and cathedral ceiling in the living room. We also really liked that each bedroom has its own bath and exterior door. And many of the attractions of downtown Palm Springs are within a short walk!

Guestbook comments from the owner

(There is no star rating on this review because it was left in a written note in the guest book, and was typed in here by the owner.)

Susan,

We had a wonderful 9-day stay in your house that now - unfortunately - has come to an end. We really enjoyed your lovely house which our son Sebastian found planning our travels to California. Coming from a trip from San Francisco and north in Merced (Yosemite NP), Fresno (Sequoia NP) and Las Vegas, we had a very restful stay in your house! My personal highlight was the pool, giving me the chance to swim whenever and however long I wanted to. (All of us enjoyed it!)

My husband liked the hummingbirds coming to the orange flowers near our sleeping-room-door. My oldest son (25) enjoyed the space everyone had for their own - and "Free Willy" in the pool. My younger son (23) liked the great supply with everything we needed for cooking, swimming, etc. His friend (also 23) enjoyed the sofas inside and outside the house for listening to audiobooks and music.

We all had a wonderful, restful time in your house - which really is a house!

Thanks for your hospitality and we wish you all the best! Thanks also to Julie who prepared everything so well.

Great second visit!

  • 5 of 5

Our emotion of 'wow' when we visited last year was replaced with 'it is great to be back'! So another great stay when we packed in visits to the USS Midway in San Diego plus Griffiths Park in LA and Santa Monica and Malibu. Our days 'off' were spent relaxing by the pool and eating out in some the Palm Spinga restaurants such as Thai Smile, Lulu's and the Casa Mexican. We are looking forward to visit number three some time in the future! Thanks again Susan.

Super nice house!

  • 5 of 5

Big house, great space, but at the same time very cozy. Nice southern European Continental vibe, if it wasn't for the American convenience facilities, like ice machine, pool and safe digital lock, you could believe you were in Spain or Italy. Susan is a professional, everything was easy and smooth from check-in to check-out, and house is very clean and well maintained. Location is good, if it's not too hot, it's walking distance to all downtown restaurants and shops. Thanks a lot Susan, we had a wonderful stay!

Great house in the perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a fantastic week and very much felt at home. I would definitely recommend this property in the future. We spent the majority of our time swimming and hanging out in the backyard. The location was great with easy access to basically everything! This was our first time renting off of VRBO and Susan made the process as easy as possible. We hope to return soon.

Great House, great location

  • 5 of 5

My two friends and I have rented houses every year for the last 8 or 10 years, and this is by far the best. House is beautiful and roomy and very nicely decorated. We loved having our own bathrooms attached to each of the three bedrooms. The location is great and well within walking distance of the main shopping and restaurant district. It is also the best stocked home we've had with all the paper products, toiletries, and kitchen items you'd need. There was even beer in the fridge and a bottle of wine to welcome us. The neighborhood is very quiet, and very little traffic on the street. Loved having access to the garage with a garage door opener and also made use of the Ralph's grocery card. The hot tub was great, but the next time, I think we'd pay extra to heat the pool. It was chilly but refreshing, although I was the only one of us who used it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home to others. If we go back to Palm Springs, this is the house we'd want.

It is immaculately cared for, and has a well stocked bar and kitchen. The atmosphere is warm.

We could not have been happier with our week in your home. We never did get a chance to use the spa, as we were just too busy! I can't imagine anything you could do to make it better. The couple that used the back room, had a small issue with dogs barking early in the morning. It was only a minor issue.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Kathleen, for your helpful comments. I'm sorry you never got the chance to sit in the spa - that's heaven! But maybe you'll find time next time you come. And I've not had any reports before about barking...I'll talk to the neighbor and see if something can be done.

Car: not necessary

Most people come to Palm Springs for the unique combination of outdoors living, recreational activities, and cultural richness to be found here. From the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, which draws top music and comedy performers due to our proximity to Los Angeles, to the lively arts community, to the hundreds of golf courses, tennis courts, and country clubs to be found in the Coachella Valley, we are certain that Palm Springs has something for everyone. And the many events that occur each year in our valley draw interest from around the nation and even the world - the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, the BNP Paribas Tennis tournament, the Humana Challenge and Kraft Nabisco golf tournaments, the White Party, the Palm Springs Film Festival, the Tour de Palm Springs bicycle event, and many more. But in addition to all of that, if you want to vacation in a place where you can simply rest, sunbathe, lounge by the pool and rejuvenate yourself, our house will provide the indoor/outdoor Palm Springs living style that you are craving.

The areas of southern California within and surrounding the Coachella Valley abound in great outdoors adventures. The base station for the famous Palm Springs Aerial Tram is about a 15 minute drive from our house. The largest rotating tramcars in the world take you from the valley to the San Jacinto Mountain Station, at 8,516 feet of altitude. Also nearby (about one hour by car) is Joshua Tree National Park, perhaps the premier rock climbing mecca of America. Joshua Tree, named for the amazing and weird versions of the yucca plant that grow only in that area, is also full of wonderful hikes and stunning driving tours. Big Bear Lake, with all the summer boating, fishing and swimming activities, and both alpine and downhill skiing in the winter, is only 2 hours away by car. The attractions of Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego are all within a few hours away by car.
