Enjoy the Nation's Capitol while staying in a hip family, dog, and gay friendly neighborhood close-by that is a destination in and of itself. This charming townhouse in the great Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria has all you need to enjoy a relaxing getaway. Many restaurants and trendy shops are right outside the door. Lots of places have outdoor seating. Fantastic cheese shop/restaurant and local butcher. Incredible yoga/Pilates studio with hot yoga called Mind the Mat is only a few blocks away. Also only a few blocks away is a Capital BikeShare bike rental, as well as a co-op bike shop. Walk to dog park, CVS, grocery store, YMCA, bike/walking trail that goes all the way to Mt. Vernon Estate in one direction and Washington, DC in the other and connects to miles of other trails. Why Maria Getoff chose Del Ray
This is a great townhouse on a nice block in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Metro D.C. Check out the below article about Del Ray in Cottage Living. I fell in love with this neighborhood and you will see why!
What makes this Townhome unique
The back yard is like a small oasis. Upper deck with table for enjoying morning coffee, lower patio with comfy seating, and nicely landscaped yard with a fire pit for making S'mores on a chilly evening.

Lovely home and neighborhood.
Even though we just slept and shared at the house, it was a lovely home. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Wonderful Home in a great location!
I was really pleased with our stay. We came to the area to visit Washington DC and were concerned about driving into the city. With a metro station nearby we decided to stay at Maria's home and take the Metro into the city every day and it couldn't have worked out any better. We had a 3 minute drive and parked the car for the day right next to the station and didn't have to worry (or waste time) about traffic, parking, etc. Then at the end of the day we were able to enjoy the comforts of a home and the surrounding neighborhood. The home was in great shape, had everything we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. It worked out great and thank you Maria for the use of your wonderful home and your hospitality!
Fantastic location and home!
The house was perfect for our weekend getaway. The neighborhood is so cute, we wished we had another day in our trip just to explore Del Ray and Old Town. Maria was wonderful and checked in on us a couple times to make sure our stay was going well. The house itself was perfect, cozy and clean with everything working well. Her neighbors are also incredibly nice! It was a huge plus that we were able to bring our small dogs. Her fully fenced in garden/yard was perfect for them to step out in without us having to get them all suited up with leashes etc. The subway into the heart of DC is either like a 15 min walk or a $4 UberPool so you can't beat the location. We were a little worried about parking, but we were always able to find a spot either directly in front of the house or just a few houses down. We already told a few people about this property that are planning trips to DC, and when we visit our friends again we hope to stay here again, thank you!!
Perfect location in Del Ray - close to bike-paths and walk to restaurants
The property is two-bedroom and one bathroom, located in charming Del Ray, one of the most walkable of DC suburbs. My wife and I and our youngest child spent 11 nights there and really appreciated its location, handy to the mellow restaurants on Mt. Vernon Ave., close to Metro, and, using Capital Bikeshare, close to the bike paths of Alexandria. It was a bit tight when our daughter joined us for one night to spend the night -- the Del Ray houses are quite snug! The landlord was responsive to small issues that came up.
Had all we needed, great location.
Marie was quick to respond, helpful and flexible. Nice lady.
Great place, our family had an amazing time.
Maria was awesome. Her home was perfect for us, a family of four, and the location is great. Minutes from the old town and the main street in Del Ray (just a couple blocks away when walking) has everything one would and could desire. Our boys, age 10 and 8, loved it, and we will certainly be back again. This home is a must for anyone travelling to the D.C. area.
See the DIY Del Ray blog post about the home and search for Maria and kitchen. Del Ray's slogan is 'Where main street still exists." Its a very hip, friendly, walkable community. Lots of dogs and strollers! Also very gay-friendly. Along Mt. Vernon Avenue (2 blocks away) you will find a plethora of restaurants, coffee shops, and boutique shops. There are many options for outdoor dining. There is even an adults only sushi restaurant (as well as one that is not so selective!).
Bring home nice meats at the local butcher shop or fancy cheese from the local gourmet cheese shop. A lively farmer's market from May through October. Walking distance to small CVS. One mile to metro station with easy access to Washington, D.C. and all that city has to offer. Bring your bikes or running shoes and hit the Mount Vernon Trail along the Potomac River, which connects with hundreds of miles of other trails. The trail is about 1 mile from the house. The Mount Vernon Trail is a big favorite of area cyclists. The trail offers wonderful views of the Potomac and DC monuments. There are also several points-of-interest along the way, including George Washington's home at Mount Vernon, Old Town Alexandria, Arlington National Cemetery, and the local's favorite Gravelly Point (at the north end of National Airport's main runway).
Old Town, Alexandria, a lovely historic area with great shops and restaurants, is only about a mile away. There is a really large farmer's market there in the summer. Take a ghost tour, or a river cruise, or just wander about some of the side streets to see some lovely historic homes.
If you like yoga or pilates, there is a great studio a couple of blocks away called Mind the Mat. One studio has all hot classes (not Bikram). There are lots of classes from which to choose.
Of course there is then all of Washington, DC to explore, just a 20 minute drive (non-rush hour) or a 25 minute Metro ride. All the museums and monuments are free! The National Zoo is a favorite for families as well.
So much to do and explore!
