SORRY, NO early check-ins, or early-arrival baggage storage.

We are on a peaceful family residential block that happens to be steps from everything. We have children and families living there, the fruit and vegetable carts calling out every morning. We seek travelers welcome to be a part of that but not disrespect it with noise and disruption. We are not for everyone, but we are very very special. Foodies, families, Girls weekends, Reunions. Beautiful complete rebuild of an historic 1840s New Orleans home. 4 blocks to Bourbon but retire to a peaceful beautifully renovated oasis.

The lower level has 12 ft high ceilings. We have been doing vacation rentals for 4 years but have just completed the complete renovation of this property October 1, 2013. We had several bookings before we were listed and photos were taken. It is an amazing experience in a fantastic location, steps from Storyville, Congo Square, Louis Armstrong Park, and Cafe du Monde is a 10 minute stroll. We are 4 blocks from Bourbon Street.

About Dave Richard, Manager

I used to be a travel journalist and believe the best way to experience a place is to live in a real neighborhood.

Dave Richard, Manager purchased this house in 2012

Why Dave Richard, Manager chose Seventh Ward

There is simply nothing remotely like it anywhere in the city. This is NOT a shotgun where you walk through each others bedrooms, in fact the bedrooms and bathrooms are massive by any standard. This is for the travelers who enjoy quiet at the end of a long day or night out on the town. SORRY, NO early check-ins, or early-arrival baggage storage.

What makes this house unique

QUIET just a stones throw from the heart of the city. Huge rooms, peace and quiet, a real neighborhood on the edge of all the tourism and noise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I was so lucky to find this wonderful home. The home is renovated down to the last nail and it is lovely. This also means very clean, a biggie for me. The rooms are spacious, the windows let in lovely light throughout the day and the amenities are top notch. The location is ideal for the French Quarter and Marigny, really it is convenient to the whole town as it is located near bus service and the street car. A little walking might be in store to some locations, but its good to work off all the good food and drink! I had a rental car and was able to park in front of the house every day of the 30 I stayed. The linens are lovely and very clean. The kitchen is stocked with new dishes and cookware. There is a sweet, brand new laundry set up as well. Dave was the icing on the cake! He is a hardworking, patient, charismatic darling! He took care of all my needs very quickly. There was never an unanswered text or phone call. He ensured that I was well versed on the town as well. I got a locals guide straight from him! He is very particular about his guests and we had an in depth conversation before I rented to ensure I was the kind of person he wanted in his property. This is in a neighborhood and each resident expects respect of their personal privacy and comfort regarding noise and traffic. This is understandable and makes the location even more desirable for safety reasons as well as general warmth in spirit! As a single woman I felt safe and at ease on this 'up and coming' neighborhood street. A few families, lots of young couples and late 20, early 30 kinds of neighbors. I could not say more about this apartment. I will always look back fondly on my time (a whole month) in this apartment. Good memories and good sleep!

Great big clean and nicely renovated place.

  • 5 of 5

The professional management staff's communication was great and the property was even nicer than expected. It is close walking distance to eating, groceries, and about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute uber/taxi/drive to the French Quarter/Bourbon. The AC was on and ice cold when we got there, which was greatly appreciated stepping in from the muggy New Orleans summer weather.

Great house, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 10 and loved staying in this wonderful house. The location is fantastic, with just a short walk to the quarter, and lots of bars, shops and restaurants nearby. Dave and Shinda were easy to work with, and helped make our experience very smooth and easy.

Awesome experience, great location, and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Great spot and location for mardis gras (or any trip to NOLA for that matter). Its 15 min to bourbon street, maybe 20 from canal, which is nothing when you think about the the amount of walking we did each day. Close access to street car or bus off rampart if you are trying to quickly get to either canal or a cross street to the heart of bourbon (depending on parade schedule). Quiet neighborhood. I recommend because sometimes the chaos of bourbon street can be overwhelming so you are far enough to take a breather and get away, but close enough still close enough to all the action when you want to be. Even closer is frenchman street which is lively as well (maybe 10-15 min walk). We had the top two units. Everything was exactly how it was pictured, all utilities are in great condition (pretty much new) and the house was renovated well. Beds were comfortable, house has everything you could think of and more. Any questions we had the property manager would respond immediately. Everyone in the group talked about how they loved the place and that they were much happier we went with this option instead of cramming in a hotel room for the same price. Also, when I looked at a lot of the other properties available, they would often feel/look like hostels. This place was not that. It was accommodating, spacious, and truly felt like a home away from home.

Amazing Property, Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this property. The units are beautiful, big and clean. Each of the layouts are a little unique, spacious and included everything we could have needed for our family get together in New Orleans. The neighborhood is also one of our favorites in NOLA. This property is within walking of the french quarter and fun of frenchman street but on a quiet little block away from it all. We didn't meet our host, Dave, directly, but he was great to work with throughout the whole process - very responsive and accommodating. I'd recommend this property to anyone visiting the ever enchanting New Orleans!

Clean property, terrible layout

  • 3 of 5

Clean inside and out. Our group rented the entire upstairs of this house. The main issue we had was a actual set up of the property.

Be aware the upstairs rental is actually two units with seperate entrances. There are two ways to get from one part of the rental to the other:

A) go down the back stairs, through an alley, onto the street, through the front door, and up the front stairs OR

B) Go through an emergency exit located outside the small units front door that leads straight into the main units bathroom (with 14 people in the main area there was almost never a time someone wasn't using the bathroom)

My husband and I were in the small seperate part of this property and we felt completely isolated from the rest of our group. To make matters worse, the 2nd bathroom that was supposed to be part of the rental was literally through our bedroom in our unit. This put us in an even more awkward situation. 14 ppl in our group were sharing one bathroom and we essentially had our own.

I was not the person that booked this property so it's possible the set up was disclosed to the renter...I just really really really wish I had known this was what we were getting into before we arrived. The set up of this house was awful and left us feeling left out and resented.

Other notes:

The Murphy bed shown in the pictures is in the smaller upstairs space and is almost unusable. Again the bathroom in this unit is through the main bedroom leaving whoever is sleeping on the Murphy bed without access to a bathroom. Unless you don't mind someone walking through your bedroom to use the bathroom don't consider this as a usable bed.

The door between our space and the main restroom doesn't have a key pad on it, just a deadbolt that locked from the inside of the bathroom. Because this house isn't in a great neighborhood, the deadbolt needed to be locked each night, further separating us from our group. For the first day and a half, this door was unusable. I don't know if this happens often but don't be surprised if this door is permanently shut.

The fan in our bedroom didn't work.

There's not nearly enough towels, blankets, or pillows for 16 people in this property.

As mentioned above, this property is not in a nice part of town. As soon as you get a block or two away it's fine but don't expect to feel safe in the block surrounding this house. There is a house falling down across the street which seems like it draws an unsavory crowd to the block.

Owner's Response: One unfortunate aspect of our business is that when guests behave badly and cause damage resulting in part of their security deposit being withheld, they decide to write anything to scare others from booking. In this case saying our neighborhood is unsafe. These guests (who did not even book the property but tagged along with someone who did and apparently didn't see the floorplans) a) damaged our back fence, b) completely tore down a banana tree in the yard (we got numerous neighbor complains), and then c) left a bloody IV on the balcony after returning from hospital where they had to be rehydrated. e) They then denied any of the damage despite the fact that some of it was on security cam. f) The security concerns are ridiculous. Firstly there is also no "alley." In the 3 years we have operated we have not have one single instance of any petty theft or any stranger entering the property, which has 24 hour security for that reason. There is no reason the interlocking door would have to remain locked. There is just a separate back entrance, ubiquitous and according to fire safety regs. As far as the "neighborhood" New Orleans does not segregate according to race and class, you have big homes next to small homes and black and whites living together. If that constitutes unsafe, there are many other destinations that should be considered. So I would direct guests to weigh this against our other strong reviews.
