About Marieke

Marieke used to live in Amsterdam, but when she met her true love she moved out of the city into rural area below Rotterdam. And because she was having a hard time to saying goodbye to the vibrant live of Amsterdam they decided to keep the apartment for nice weekends away. They still come to Amsterdam regularly with their children to enjoy city life.

Marieke purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Marieke chose Amsterdam

When she bought the property Marieke was traveling for her work constantly. She needed a place to come home to on Friday after being away for the week. So besides being part of the hustle and the bustle of the city she wished to have a quiet place to herself with a large outdoor area to enjoy the sun and the feeling of freedom. It all came together in this perfect place.

What makes this apartment unique

De Pijp is a vibrant neighborhood with lots of restaurant, cafes and shops. The famous Albert Cuyp Market is around the corner for all your fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and other groceries. The City Center and all major museums are within walking distance. But despite the busy street life, the apartment is very peaceful and quiet. The roof top terrace is the best place on a nice day, you can relax in privacy and overlook the city.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in Amsterdam! We rented the home for a week and it was perfect for the two of us. The balcony and terrace are beautiful. Having the washing machine was great, but all instructions were in Dutch. With the help of Google Translate I was able to figure it out though. Plenty of towels were provided, cooking essentials, and every manual for every appliance. The binder that was left was very helpful! It included information on grocery stores, restaurants, renting bikes, and much more. The location was great! Near several restaurants (many right on the same block), really close to the Albert Cuypmarket, and great shopping. Only downside were the stairs. We knew it was a 4th floor walk up, but the stairs are narrow, steep, and they wind. We managed, but its not easy with luggage. Even with the stairs we would definitely stay again!

I loved the apartment and its location! Being this was my second time in Amsterdam, I wanted to stay in a local area as opposed to a touristy one. The vibrant De Pijp neighborhood was the perfect location. It was hip and trendy with plenty of friendly cafés/pubs, coffee shops, restaurants and a lively nightlife. The Albert Cuypmarkt is perfectly situation a block from the apartment, we enjoyed some shopping and sampling of local cuisine. The grocery store is also nearby, as are the trams and taxis -there was construction going on but it made no difference as all was readily available. No less, everything is truly within walking distance: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Vondelpark, Heineken Brewery, Dam Square/the Royal Palace, Centraal Station, etc.

We stayed for 6 nights and couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable bed. The apartment was very clean, airy and well-equipped. It had all the plates, utensils, pots & pans we needed. We enjoyed the roof terrace and felt safe in the apartment. I was happy to be away from the hustle and bustle of city centre.

Marieke provided us with a very useful leaflet of the places around us. It came in very handy our first couple of days as we were trying to get situated with our surroundings. I would definitely recommend the apartment and its location -it’s perfect!

Awesome. Sauce.

This apartment is in a perfect location for the tourist who doesn't want to stay in the middle of the hubub, but get plenty of life in the neighborhood. There's a cluster of pubs and wine bars down the street, Albert Cyup market is a block away, 3 great coffee shops are within 2 blocks, and there's an excellent grocery store a two blocks away. There's also a great used clothing store across the street from the grocery. The tram stop is about 5 min walk from the apartment and goes right downtown. Three of the biggest museums, Vongel Park, and the concert hall are a 15-25 min walk away.

The apartment itself is light and airy and the bed is mad comfortable. The balcony doesn't have seats, but the rooftop has a lovely sofa (though it was too cold to be outside for either in April). The cable was decent and having a writing desk was really great. The kitchen is very well appointed, including having a capsule coffee matching (capsules can be bought at the grocery). The plates, utensils, etc were all of nice quality and the apt was totally clean when ready. Like many Amsterdam apartments, the toilet is separated from the bedroom, but the shower is en suite. The skylight brought in tons of light, even on a rainy day.

Marieke was excellent at communication and accommodating when I needed to change the dates a bit. The only thing I could wish for is a chair on the bedroom balcony and some sort of towel hooks in the bath.

A wonderful hideaway in the center of the Pijp

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of September, and couldn't have asked for a better apartment in Amsterdam.

There was some construction work being done in the building during our stay, and Marieke was more than fair in her gesture to compensate us for the unplanned disturbance.

The apartment itself is on the top floor of a four story walk-up. The stairs can be a bit intimidating, and certainly are not suitable for larger than standard suitcases. The roof terrace is a wonderful escape with 360 degree views of the surrounding skyline.

The location is ideal with many restaurants within a couple block radius, the Rijksmuseum a short 10-15 minute walk, and Centraal Station about a 25-30 minute walk. There is a tram just at the corner, and the Albert Cuyp market around the block. About a 10 minute walk south there is a little boat rental place (Boaty) where you can rent your own private power boat to cruise the canal system.

I will definitely consider renting this apartment again in the future as we thoroughly enjoyed it, and working with Marieke.

To be in Amsterdam as a local and not as a tourist.

The apartment is loceted in the lively young and colorful De Pijp neighborhood. The neighborhood full of restaurants, cafes, shops and action. Albert Cuyp Market is the highlight. . The location is perfect. A few steps from the tram, a taxi stop & walking distance to the museums & most of central Amsterdam.

The apartment itself is large, clean and well-equipped. Marieke the owner is charming and so welcoming.

We enjoyed every moment. Thanks.
